I don't know Nina...nor have I been much of a fan of her in the past. But, I do know addicts. But, it's unclear to me at this point if she is truly a clinical addict. (Although using banned substance to win your sports most prestigous race would certainly be considered grounds for being called an addict). She's certainly addicted to something.

If Nina is an addict, she has lost her ability to understand her body and mind. She is insecure about her abilities, uncertain that she could beat her competition and turned to illegal drugs. This is where perception and reality get a little distorted. Nina took drugs because she felt her abilities were less than her competition. If someone recommended them, she still needed to buy their theory. Whether or not she was more familiar with this situation....is moot. Impossible to prove. But, once an addict you lose the ability to see yourself through rational eyes.

As for 2 & 3, people just like to justify their own minds.

Most excellent, Grasshopper. I'll end the suspense. Here is the second question: If Kraft, knowing her own abilities better than anyone, felt she had to dope to win, how can anyone here reasonably take the position that "She would have won anyway"?

Perhaps she underestimates her abilities. Maybe her true mean performance capability would have been a winning time but she expected less. Maybe her true performance curve is platykurtic but she thought it was leptokurtic so she doped hoping to minimize fat tails.

Who do you think is more familiar with Nina Kraft's abilities, Nina herself, or people on this forum?
