My question is this: For the same volume is ti better for longer duration workouts or more frequency? For instance is it better to ride say 250 mpw on 3 rides or 5 rides. What about for swimming and running? Thnaks

For base (or built) training I'd say longer workouts. Longer ones work better your aerobic endurance.
Anyway I'm not a coach, I'm only speaking off what I do during my base/built pre-season weeks.

If endurance is your limiter then I would go with longer workouts. If form/skills is your limiter then you will likely need to go with shorter workouts.
Either way, you need to stop the workout when quality is dropping. For LSD bike workouts, this can be a very long time.

Endurance is not a limiter for me in any sport. Form might be a limiter for me in swimming but i have good form. This offseason I am gonna work with a swimmer to make it right. I was thinking of swimming 5-6 days up from 4. On the bike it takes so long for a good workout i might be only able to do 3, but I could do 4-5 and get the same milage. Onthe bike I am solid everywhere. i dont have a weakness but everything could imporve.
