Tour de France, another question
I know that the riders wear an earphone/microphone so that they can communicate with the team director. Do the riders ever listen to music from mp3 player or piped through on their radio headset when on time trials or in break aways?

I seriously doubt it... these people reallly need to concentrate on what they are doing... Performing at that level is both physical and mental. Spacing out listening to music is only removing the mental part of your performance leaving you at a disadvantage.

Yes, sometimes on TTs.

Some also wear ear plugs. UCI officials give a sign-language countdown, so you can launch at the correct time regardless of language barrier or "Hearing impairment."

Best TT I ever did, I had a walkman in my skinsuit. James Brown for 40k.

Hi Richard,

They may want some music in their earphones to not have to listen to the screems of the "Directeur sportif" all the way of a TT.

Have you seen the feature on France 2 (french channel) showing the Directeur sportif of FdesJeux.com behind McGee ? Just bearable for a 5k prologue, can't imagine that for a 55k TT.

That's a great question. You should log onto OLN's "Ask Bobke" thing and ask that.

I actually find that listening to music allows me to focus better. It drowns out the random noises that could be distracting by a predictable pattern of music (especially if it is music I picked).
