What should I do - office gym question
I'm building a gym in the basement of my office (to be used only by me - hey it's my office, I can do what I want).

I find it hard to ride during the week because of my hours.

I do races from sprints to IM's.

Should I:

a) Buy a regular stationary bike
b) Buy a spin bike
c) Buy a cheap bike and use my trainer
d) Save some $$$ and just bring my bike in on days I want to ride and use the trainer

If you answered 'c' , any suggestions for a decent 'cheap' bike.

b or d. spin bike works best in that this will be a permanant gym, so you dont have to set up take down tri bike on trainer. some say do all your riding on your race bike. i think you reap adaptive benefits from stress from different positions (although obviously you need to get comfortable for race distance on race bike). I'd get the spin bike and a treadmill. Throw in a mat, a yoga ball, stretch cords and a disco ball and you're set.

C.

Suggestions: any old dog of a frame (lots of old steel ones available, try to get one preferably on the smaller side) where you can get your positon dialed in PERFECT. You ideally want your seat height and seat type to be the same, BB to seat angle the same (you can adjust partially this with seatpost selection and sliding your seat fore and aft), same length cranks, same pedal system (not necessarily the same model if you have really high-end pedals on the tri bike), same seat to bars distance, and same seat to bar drop if at all possible as your main racing bike.

Where would you want to swim ?

I vote for C also. The more time you can spend on a bike that approximates your principal bike, the better. D would be nice, but more of a pain.

I vote 'C' as well with the exact positioning...for a bike you can look online...

recycledcycles.net is pretty good and cheap
