Thank you very much for the links.

I have been a marijuana user for over 35 years and completed my first Ironman at the age of 54 and did so while using marijuana not only in training but in the race itself. I have also trained and used for countless marathons as well as Ultras. Helped keep me focused and alert. Plus it also made it a lot of FUN. Something some of you stuffed shirts on here know nothing about. Go drink your IPA after the race, I think I'll just smoke a blunt.

A post so edgy I got a paper cut.

Too old to be "edgy" (whatever the fuck that is) maybe a bit "grumpy" at times

Uh yeah I’m sure about that. I took a full year of pharmacology and currently work in an ER where I give said medications. A decrease in gut bacteria is an adverse effect not listed in any of our drug reference books or medical references. In order to decimate your bacteria levels to that degree you need to have been taking an antibiotic. Ibuprofen is a NSAID. And my ER docs agree.

i dont think this article supports your claim that nsaids "decimate gut bacteria." It seems to suggest that the stool of people using different medications and combinations of meds may have different percentages of types of bacteria. nothing about "decimating." (other than stating that those using antibiotics had lower biodiversity.) the discussion states:

Because our study was not experimental in design, we cannot ascertain whether the gut microbiome is a reflection of the medications per se or of the underlying disease that the medications were intended to treat. There is ample evidence that antibiotics will reduce bacterial abundance [27,28] but for some medications (NSAIDs, antidepressants), it is possible that the bacterial composition could partly reflect the underlying condition. For example, in those participants who were taking medications for symptoms of a cold or flu, the biodiversity index was rather low which could be a reflection of the medication itself or, alternatively, may be a marker for microbial shifts during an infection. On the other hand, drugs are developed specifically for their ability to alter metabolic pathways and expectations would include possible bacterial response and alterations in end products.

I was using it to highlight that ibuprofen IS proven to cause changes in the microbiome as to who I was responding to made out it it has no effect including liver damage. All I know is what had happened to me, the cause and what I had to do to fix it. I have discussed with several specialists in the field regarding what happened to me and the daily use of ibuprofen was the biggest impact on my gut. My initial post was to try and make people aware that there are implications to taking ibuprofen daily as in my case and everyone is free to make their own choices.

For those that haven't read the article/interview with Joanna about the study, here's the link. Good information and links as we all try to make an informed decision on whether CBD, as with any supplement, should be considered or has any added benefit.

Not sure how I missed this in the spring, but maybe life was a little too busy for ST.

Thanks for the share. It's pretty interesting. I'm amazed at how many inconsiderate and ignorant posts are in this thread.

There's so much we don't know and self report on pain (among other things) is about all we have right now. I sat in on a panel about the challenges of studying marijuana use in the United States a few weeks ago and it was fascinating. Between federal laws and most(?) universities here having drug-free policies, it's pretty complicated to study anything specific to THC. We definitely need to figure out more so we can have a better idea of what populations would benefit the most from marijuana products and what populations would see the most harm. If I was working out 4 days a week, under 40, having pain and trouble sleeping, your presentation would be a pretty hard nudge to trying out a marijuana product. However, knowing THC vs. CBD vs. both, amount, frequency, etc. would be nice. Keep up the good work.

In my opinion, you chose an engaging topic to study. Is already proved that cannabis lowers pain and provides a relaxing effect to the muscles.

You searched and dug back three years to comment that?
