Tri Suit Zipper Cord

New, one-piece tri suit that zips in the back with a pullcord attached. That's gotta go, right? Just have someone zip/unzip when needed?

For the last 5 years I've raced in a rear zip tri suit.

I don't see changing any time soon. The neck line is so much better for me since it doesn't scoop air like other suits I've used.

I guess I figured having it flapping around on the bike was a bad idea?

That would annoy the shit out of me. I did a training swim in my wetsuit and forgot to velcro the cord and it was driving me crazy, wrapping itself around my face etc I would either cut it or tuck it in.Running also would be a pain.

That's what I was wondering...

You see lots of itu guys unzip the back during the run to cool down, and loosen the neckline.

I only use the cord to hop the zip up, then I pull the cord off, it’s just a knotted piece of string so it’s easy to remove
I love my ashmei back zip trisuit!

I believe that it was Specialized that tested it in their windtunnel and found that the cord is not an aero penalty. You might be able to find it in one of their windtunnel videos on youtube.

When I race in a back zippered suit I simply tuck the cord into the trisuit and don't notice it at all during the race like in this picture:

the "chord" is smaller than a wetsuit one and I have never even noticed it in a race but I suppose you could cut it shorter or off. I need help zipping up but can unzip myself with the chord. I would try it first before cutting it to see if it bothers you.

I was less concerned with aero penalties and more with the annoyance of the thing possibly flapping and whipping me repeatedly on the bike.

Race over. The verdict? I kept it full length and noticed it exactly zero times.

My bike split was, however, slower than last year so I'm blaming it on the drag. :-)

I cut mine, and regretted it right away.. had to go to the bathroom mid-run and couldn't unzip myself. Had to ask a bystander to open it up.
Goes without saying it wasn't the quick sanitarystop I planned to make, and cost me a top 10.

Now I just tuck it away in the neck and leave a small loop out for emergencies

I hate to state the obvious, but tuck it in... I have numerous ITU style rear zip race suits, and I've always left the tether on the zipper, because I do sometimes use it on the run, to unzip the back of the suit and shed some heat... But before the start, after I zip it up, I just tuck it into the back of the suit and never notice it until I want to reach back to unzip...

I'd also rather be self sufficient at the start and not have to ask someone to zip me up...
