Married. I'll let you in on the secret:

1) Watch the kids every morning so she can sleep in and take a long shower

2) Make dinner every night & wash the dishes

3) Say "those are nice" when you actually want to say "do you really need another pair of shoes?"

Someone asked for more detail on the Calfee..... It's custom with geometry designed by PK Racing. They had to custom wrap the headtube. They couldn't use the standard lug because of the special angle requirements.

How much does the dragonfly weigh, without the funktified bottle on it?

Could the SRM brain look any more outdated? It might be a bigger eyesore on the dragonfly than the bottle.

Nevertheless, the dragonfly is way hot.

The Alps are fast wheels, but they go out of true too much and it seems like the Hed factory guys are the only ones capable of truing them.

I only use the Mtb for hillclimbs -- and it's great for that. I'm using it for a climb this week where I've calculated that each ounce costs 2 seconds.

It's pre-suspension vintage (1990, I think) ; I don't think I could put a suspension fork on it if I wanted to.

Maybe this will answer Fleck, et al. too.....

Hee, hee, don't get me started. I'm not modest, but more like one of those characters in the Iliad, hollering lyric poetry about past exploits at their enemies across the river.

The Calfee goes up Old La Honda Road < 17 min. The Mtb does it <18 -- with 2.0 inch tires. (if you're from the SF area, this might be meaningful).

As for the P3: 1st Place in the Oregon State TT Championships and the Bronze Medal in the Masters Worlds TT (Edmonton, Canada) this year.

If you have any doubts, I encourage you to join me for a ride sometime. ;-)

I guess the bike will be the first thing that the robbers take when they break in!

Acutually, they may just leave it alone( stupid robbers!!) I have been broken into twice and they came in through the basement door walked right past thousands of dollars of bikes, racing wheels, training equipment and xc-ski gear and they took the usual - my computer, the TV and the CD's. They also left alone( thankfully) thousands of dollars of art-work hanging on the walls.

I've done my cellar out into a training room as such. Plus it security safe, cause it in da house.

Bottles no - Camelbak yes.

Saddle - Sam marco era TT I think, nice bit of pading but wrong shape for me. But didn't get on with it so have the TT specific FIZIK Arione, which is much more comfortable.

Its a very quick bike, ride quality is awesome.

Jens,

2 questions, if I may.

What front brake is on your TT bike.

Secondly--about the bottle. I faintly remember a post that your wind tunnel test where the opposite of Cobb's, i.e. the bottle was slower??
I've had some good test results with this thing, but I'm going to do a couple of more accurate field tests now that the season is over:

That's a Cat Claws (the predecessor of the "Zero Gravity") brake. The Campy bottle did indeed increase drag, so I don't use it for TTs. I imagine the Arundel would have similar results (at least with my setup). I think this all may be very dependent on the bike and even the rider.

I actually like the look of the confluent lugs on the Tetra more than the blocky ones on the Dragonfly. I just had to have the boron. Ron:

I don't know the actual numbers as Christopher took care of all that. However, I believe the differences were mostly based on accommodating my unusually short femurs & concomitantly small setback (4cm). So it's probably a little steeper than the stock geometry. I haven't had a "twitchiness" problem so far, but then I rarely sprint.

Ron,
Was it really twitchy, or are you not very comfortable with bike handling? I'm not saying I can handle a bike like Robbie McEwen does or trying to be an a$$, but skill level has a big effect on someone's opinion of "twitchyness."

I love the way my Calfee Tetra Pro (stock) handles and wouldn't even trade it for Peewee Herman's bike.

I can handle a bike fine. Over the years I have actually owned to Calfees one Luna Pro and one Lemond built by Calfee. The Luna handled like shit but he Lemond was great (should have never sold that one). Both bikes had the same Reynolds forks. IMHO it was the 74 deg head tube on the Luna that caused most of the handling issues especially on the rough roads that I ride.

Edit: Calfee's stock geometry for my size 58 luna not only had a 74deg head tube but a shortish toptube and very short front center. Add my long arms and need for a long stem and my weight was just two far forward on the bike.

they're actually paul neo-retros which are like the old mafacs except they use regular v-brake pads. the jerk has had the spooky brakes on another cross bike and those were also excellent. if you have to choose, the pauls will allow you to use better brake pads but the spookys use a better cable hanger set-up.

What are you doing to your Rex? Classic Rex is "Bizarro Merckx" (blue with orange panels)- straight up Merckx is acceptable too. Other worthwhile variations: omaha orange with cream panels. Saronni (burgundy with white panels). Yellow (the light yellow with a purple clear coat that Steve likes)- also with cream panels. As you can guess, it is all about panels.

I am having a "winter" Rex with fender braze-ons made. Still decding on a paint job.
