I am saving the date...questionable due to job situation (currently unemployed).
This time I will have actually finished Oceanside 70.3 and may be up for some longer rides.
Fingers crossed for better weather this year.

Yes.

We really only have one rule..no drama. You can train or not train. Run only. Ride only. Drink coffee and wine only. Every year it's been a really great group of ladies, all of whom met as strangers and we all end up getting along great. And Monty as our "Den Mother".

To get a flavor of camp, here are Erika's blog posts from the first two years. Then keep clicking "newer posts" to read through.

"Monty, being the man that he is, passed on a wonderful compliment to all of the ladies present. He said, "You are the type of people that say you are going to do something and then you go out and do it. I like that and that's why we all get along so well." Absolutely. We were a group of people who met over the internet but took the opportunity to meet in person and SHOWED UP TO HAVE A REALLY GOOD TIME. We couldn't have done it better. It was amazing."

I went this last year and these womens are amazing, every single one of them. I don't ride anymore so enjoyed long walks and drinking coffee. It was a great chance for me to relax and take some much needed down time.

I have it on my schedule in 2013. As long as life doesn't throw me another giant curve ball I will be there!

Edited to add: Monty is hands down one of the nicest, funniest and most gracious hosts I've ever met. And he is an awesome cook! As the token boy he fit right in with the girls.

I'd echo what Cathy said. I've come to these camps a number of times with large groups and small and it's always been a really great group of women of all levels and abilities. In addition to the blog posts that Cathy posted, I've written a few for last years camp and the one I went to previously in 2009. (scroll forward to see subsequent posts of camp.)

Last year: http://parentheticalstatement.wordpress.com/.../13/unlucky-weather/

2009: http://parentheticalstatement.wordpress.com/2009/04/09/opening-day/

And thanks Cathy for the super-advanced notice. I'm pencilling it in on my calendar. Hopefully, we'll get more cooperation from the weather gods this year! :-)

I am so there! ST womens are the absolute best (including Monty and family). Hope Jordan/Jill and Emilio/Tracy can join us this year, too.

I'm going to start training for the margarita mile as soon as I'm over the stomach thing that flattened me at IMC.

Slowman does not keep smurf-size bikes unfortunately-I think we small people using 650 wheels may be on the endangered species list ;-)

However, since I now live close by, I will bring both my tri bike and my Trek road bike in my car. You are welcome to ride the road bike instead of bringing your own...

oh man. I was seriously thinking of maybe considering, possibly musing on the logistics, and daydreaming and already completely intimidated, but intrigued nonetheless and back to wondering when I saw SNOW. SCREEEEEECH to an abrupt halt. Ever consider coming south? to warm? Cancun is 85km away and we live on the beach with dirt roads for running (albeit a 5km out and back, just do it a lot :)), one road to ride and the sea (complete with barracudas and lots of Dory fish) for swim....

So I see that basically anyone can come to this camp. Just curious on the details (cost, bikes, etc). I haven't read the entire forum so maybe I should to that as well. I just got really excited about there being a camp for just women. Even though it may be out of the budget for me, I can sure try to get there. :D Thanks bunches!

The cost is $65/day (24 hr period). That includes lodging, food, drink, wireless internet, coffee, and massive entertainment. The bike situation is that there are some bikes available but if you ride a very small bike (under a 50), you might want to bring yours.

This you are planning on coming, please post here or send me an email or PM. We'll need 1 night deposit by April 1st. Once people make their travel plans we can try to coordinate rental car sharing.

Ya every year it is a good mix of regulars and newbees. So just enough to show you the ropes so you don't have to spend any time figuring out where you are, and where to go. It is about as much fun as you can have without getting laid, and for some even better!!! (-;

For extra context, I flew into and out of Orange County airport and the drive to/from Xantusia was a little over an hour each way - very easy - we even found it in the middle of the night. As Cathy noted in one of her earlier responses, as we get closer and people have flights booked, we should be able to arrange sharing some rental cars. Hope you can join us - it was a great weekend last year and I'm really looking forward to this year.

Yeah, I've already booked most of them

Took 2 days for the Carlsbad Half in two weeks
Taking 3 days for Challenge Penticton
Might have a week with the family in FL

So, all used up. I have 8 days of PTO but they are used as sick days/personal days, not planned vacation. In 3 years I get another week :/

Yes, Jen -- try to take 1/2 day Friday if possible (offer to work on the plane?) and if you want, head back Monday morning straight to the office; I will get you to Burbank airport in time for an early flight. You don't bring your bike, so you're "portable." It's not right without you (or without Andy, who also should figure out how to make it work!).

Challenge Penticton...hopefully I'll see you there! I should be roaming around transition all day happily NOT competing this year... ;-))
...and isn't a tri camp a good enough qualifier for some PTO?

It looks like the FL trip isn't going to happen so I have the days to come down. I'll do Thurs - Sun, flying into LA. I can do early morning/late night flights really easily.

I'll rent a car because I'll be running and want to be able to drive to trails while you girls are out riding.

I'll get everything finalized in the next couple weeks and watch for airfare sales. Maybe I'll get an upgrade again this year :-)

It may not be a 51 exactly as many bikes these days are S/M/L sizes, but we have tons of stems so we should be able to fit you ok for the few days here. So save you $$$, you should be fine. Might want to bring your saddle if it is a paticular one to you, otherwise we have a bunch of saddles too..

Man! I am going to have to re-evaluate (I did just get a nice bonus from work after all)...

OK re-eval done: As long as work permits, I will be there! I figure I can run a sh*tload and swim a few times..... riding? only if there's a small bike to borrow (hint: any MTB avail?)

Hey girls, just wanted to wish you a great camp this year and say sorry to miss! My broke ass is in design school right now and between buying new computers, software, and art supplies, I am on a low budget for fun. I hope you have a great time and post lots of updates. Also, please drink extra beer and margaritas for me.

Flight is booked!

I'm flying in Thursday morning. I'll be potentially meeting Maui for lunch or a tour of where he works then driving to Xantusia. Should be there early afternoon. Flying out late Sunday night.

When I checked flights two days ago, they were $450 on Virgin. I went to Expedia and got flights on Delta for $270. Glad I waited!

I'll be renting a car for myself.

SSP Wed-Sun driving from Vegas. Will bring extra bike (small).
Deanna and Liz LAX Wed-Sun. Renting car (RC). Bringing bikes.
Beth fembeast Burbank Wed-Sun RC. NEEDS BIKE 57/58
Kristi Dr. Christina Katie Ontario Wed-Sun RC Bringing bikes.
Carol cjdavids LAX Wed-Sun NEEDS BIKE (Sally's extra). TALK TO DEANNA about sharing ride.
Meg 2Shea2013 Driving?
Michelle D Burbank Thurs-Sun. RC Bike? 54
Gail G Driving over the hill. Thurs-Sun
JenSW Thurs-Sun RC
AndyPants ???
clm LAX NEEDS BIKE 51

Let's plan for a "stuff swap" on Saturday evening like last year. Bring something(s) that you don't use or feel that someone else would get good use from. Last year we had wine, jerseys, shirts, other gear, and it worked out pretty well.

If you are not bringing your bike, bring pedals and helmet.
Running gear.
Swim gear for those who want to swim. Monty-what is pool schedule in Palmdale?

Haven't checked weather but cold at night usually and day temps have ranged from snow to blazing heat in the past. Layers are your friend.

Post up any other questions

I am currently on the fence on whether I will be attending or not. With having surgery again last week, I am not sure if I will be allowed to do anything but sit around all week. As much fun as it will be to sit around in CA with a fun bunch of ladies, I may save my vacation days so I can have a fun, activity filled vacation later in the season. I should know more by the end of the week so I will let you know what I decide.

Carol, get in touch if you need a dinner companion tonight (or a trip to the long-course pool today or tomorrow, or maybe a trail run). :)

Had a fabulous weekend with the womens and will definitely be saving up my pennies for a return visit next year!

In the meantime, fuck United Airlines for having crappy planes that break down, fuck austerity for messing with the air traffic controllers which caused more flights to be cancelled tonight so I can't get home until Tuesday night, and fuck, I am tired....

Looks like I'll be hanging with Mickey Mouse or shopping Rodeo Drive for a couple of days. ;-)

I want to thank all of you for welcoming me to the group! It meant more than words can express. It was wonderful spending time with so many intelligent, fun and talented ladies. Monty, thank you for sharing your wisdom, the fantastic food and blending the best darn Margarita I have ever had! I look forward to next year.

Speaking of next year, please email me your full name, address and best phone number so that I can prep the spreadsheet for the kits. You can reach me at mshea2013@yahoo.com.

Have an amazing week!

Meg
