I am pleased to announce the formation of the Toughman Community Fund. This is a non profit that will allow volunteers as well as participants to raise money for their own charity by volunteering or racing respectively.
Information about the TCF will be posted by March 1st on the website.
The purpose of this is to support the local community, as well as increase support for the sport of triathlon in our local communities.

In picking the date of this years race (which we did last sept) we chose sept 13th to avoid any NY races. Since The Toughman is the only Half within a 4 hr radius of NYC, we hope that you race the Toughman Half (in Westchester NY) on sept 13th and the olympic in rye 2 weeks later.

I am happy to announce that Morgan Stanley/Smith Barney will be this yr's title sponsor- so we are now "The Morgan Stanley/Smith Barney Toughman Half".

Also The Toughman Community Fund is now open to athletes and volunteers for registration. This is a service provided by the race to allow EVERYONE that participates in the race (especially volunteers) to fundraise for their own charity. Please make note of the rules listed on the website for participation in this program.

The ToughKids Tri is open to registration as well- please direct questions and comments to CoRace Directors Carl C and Tara K who will be in charge of this event.

If you raced this last year- you will be receiving the highlights DVD from 08 in the mail, courtesy of the Toughman race committee. Special thanks to Doug Robbins of Guerilla productions, who donated interns to videotape last years’ event and edit to music the final product. Also to Stacey S who took pictures all day- and whose slideshow is included, as well as our marketing coordinator Charles W who customized the DVD cover, and put it all together.

Also Toughman will be at the JCC/AG triathlon clinic in NYC April 5th to speak on "Putting on a Triathlon A-Z" along with many other speakers from NYC including part of our Med team Dr. Mark Klion, orthopedist.

This years’ pamphlets and posters will be ready for distribution by the end of this month.

Please join our FaceBook group, and add your email to our email blast (on the website) to receive monthly newsletters.

Many more things to come……did someone say theme aid stations J

Coke - excellent. I love me a cold Coke or 2 at the finish line of a HIM.

I'm in. Registered the other day, since I had thrown in your race as part of my East Coast Smackdown Tour for this season.
I'll take full advantage of my local status to get out on the bike course and check out the run course this summer.

Hi Rich
Just want to say CONGRATS on how you have developed this race since last year. I recall some comments last year about the date you selected and you explained why and said 2009 would be different. Great sponsors(sorry we are not one), people enjoyed your technical shirt and post race food. I'll see if I can put together a relay and get more Long Islanders up there.

WVarta, thanks for all the props. It is great to hear the positives of things from racers.

Murphy's Law: I am happy that you have included our race in that list of other great races. We are working hard to make the race better than last year, which includes a new finishline setup, more local support, more product sponsors, and an apparel line at the expo.
I was at the racesite yesterday going over the timeline with Westchester County officials, who are really great (and excited to have the event at Croton) in helping out make sure the racesite is safe and every detail thought out.

For more local support-I am working on getting a program out to the town residents that lists all the racers and their numbers so that you will be cheered from the towns people on the run (props to Graham Fraser at IMC where I got this idea from). Plus the Town is working on putting on a Fall festival that cooincides with Toughman.

As a racer myself I want feedback from everyone- this helps us put on a great race.

Also I would like to thank: Rob Vigorito (eagleman), Tom Wilkas (griskus), Dan Hoenig (NY tri club), John Korff (NYC tri), Keith Jordan (Timberman and Mooseman), Jeff Henderson (Mussleman), Ridgefield Tri, Mike Larken (Goldcoast tri), GLIRC (Tobay tri), Tupper lake Tri, and Westpoint tri for helping support the Toughman. I know most of these RD's from racing for the last 20 yrs and can say without a doubt they are a class act- one and all.

I am pleased to announce Canon as a sponsor of this yr's Toughman, as well as Sunrise Tri (the first triathlon shop on LI), as well as Coke who will donate vitamin water, and Water.
Neris Bakery in Pt Chester will be providing 60 dozen bagels as well.

Next week I will announce the remaining 2 sponsors.

Plus we will be making available bike transport from the city (the day before) as well as athlete bus service (on race morning) to make it easier for those who come from NYC- details to follow.
Race bag pickup will sat 12-6pm as well as race morning sunday sept 13th 6am-7am.

Just a note that the race goes up at the end of this month by $25, so signup if your are planning on racing.

Also we will be closing out this yr and we are closing in and No charity spots will be available.

Peter, thanks alot for spreading the word, welcome to the "team". Kevin C told me he rode with you last year. I will drop some race brochures tomorrow for you at the Y.
Please look for our brochures at most races on the eastern seaboard- and soon out west as well.

To name a few-Pawling, Gold Coast, Columbia, Mooseman, Eagleman, TriRidgfield, Rev 3, Black Bear, Sleepy Hollow, Greenwich, Tupper Lake, Westpoint, Mussleman, NYCity tri, Timberman. Thanks to all race organizers out there that have so supportive of our event. We will do the same for you.

Just a sidenote and props to TrueMotion apparel http://www.true-motion.com, who is sponsoring our registration bag- a customized re-usable all purpose bag (instead of plastic), and Peter who is now part of their team!

After a short time period to allow most racers to finish there will be a post race BBQ with BBQ Chicken, baked beans, corn on the cob, salad and homemade chocolate chip cookies.

This will be my first HIM and after volunteering at Rev3 yesterday I'm really quite excited. Anyone else intending to do the clinics in August? I met the fine gentleman who runs the swim in my LBS last month, right before he did St. Croix (Richard, I can't remember his name for the life of me!). I'm so excited to do a hometown race (I live maybe 20 mins away) as my first HIM. And how about those sponsors: the Heineken will take the edge off of the Coke and Red Bull. And for those who don't know Neri's is a REALLY good and authentic bakery; so expect legitimate NY quality bagels, not the discs of dough I've had at other races.

His name is Stan and he is our swim coordinator. We are happy to have him as part of our team. Yes we are all looking forward to the clinics. Rt now only 15 spots left for the first clinic. Don't forget the pizza post race from Capriccios to go with the Heineken!

Toughman race apparel (cycling jersey, tri short, tri top, cynch bag, socks) will be online at the end of this week and available for order after the race.

Rev3 was great. Thanks for volunteering. I thought Heineken was the sponser and for run aide stations at the Toughman. I'm still waiting to hear that Wild Turkey will be the post race drink.

If Toughman is 1/2 as good as Rev3, that will give us 2 great 70.3 races for the Westchester/Fairfield county Triathletes.

I went and recon'd part of the bike course on Sat. Forgot how many lovely roads there are up in that part of the county, altho some of the pavement is the worse for wear in spots. Beautiful area - the "Tour de places I can never afford to live". ;-)

Murphys Law- thanks for your preview of the course- I will be working on getting the course swept and patched in aug.

This has been a rough spring with lots of rain and debris on the rds. I will swimming, biking, and running the course starting aug 4x/week (weekends with our club the WTC) for anyone interested in a preview. There are 2 clinics on the course aug 15/16 and sept 5/6 for anyone who wants more than a casual w/o. I will post a reminder closer to aug.
