I want to see how bad (or good) my diet truly is compared to your average 'twitcher. -No stories now- just the facts.

What have you eaten today?

I'll start:

1 Red Bull, 1 liter of water, 1 medium coffee, Power Bagel (from Einstein's) with peanut butter, walnut struesel, two kiwi fruits, 1 banana. 2nd liter of water going down as I type.

Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee.....about ready to go home, eat a bananna and take a nap (I have been in the office for almost 2 hours today, I deserve a nap damnit).

1 pot of coffe, bowl of cottage cheese (lowfat) with a orange cut up in it, 16oz of water, 1 peanut butter clif bar. I am about to scramble 3 eggs (1 yolk 3 whites) with a little salsa and cheese for my second breakfast.

Two cups coffee w/ milk & sugar, 1 quart water, 1 banana, 1/2 pint cottage cheese, 1 slice whole grain bread with PB, 1 pint water, 53 grams mueslix, 8 oz blueberry yogurt, 52 grams Grape Nuts, 8 oz cherries, 1/2 liter Diet Coke. And a multivitamin.

Oh, I almost forgot: and a peach.

Banana, 1 cup coffee, pack hostess chocolate donettes (gods food), oatmeal.

If I were working out this am I would add to that a Clif bar and a after workout protein bar.

1 Protein Plus bar, 1 bannana, 12 oz. Gatorade, 16 oz. water,

Drinking another 1/2 cup coffee now.

Will eat lunch in an hour: 1/4 lb. Chicken Breast, side of roasted potatoes, maybe some pita and hummus.

1 Cliff Bar

1/4 cup of chocolate covered raisins

1/4 cup of yougurt covered raisins

1/4 cup of chocolate covered peanuts

About 24 oz of water

Not doing that well today, I guess that's why I'm about 20 pounds over weight. Either way, I found a sport which allows me to eat basically as much as I want without gaining any weight. If I could ever get this "Nutrition" thing under control I would imagine the fat would burn off mighty quick, but food... I love food.. Sweets and carbs...

Breakfast: 8 oz. pulpy orange juice mixed with 1 tbsp. Organic flax seed oil and 8 oz. water, 3 slices lean turkey breast, 1 slice yellow american cheese, 1 bowl of GO Lean Kashi cereal with Soy milk, 1 peeled navel orange, 1 cup Yoplait yogurt, plus daily vitamins.

AM Snack: 1 sliced apple with 2 tbsp. all natural peanut butter.

Started the morning on the mountain bike for my 10 mile commute to work. The weather looked kind of sketchy, and God forbid I get my road bike and PCs wet!

1. 8:15 AM - 2 eggs (scrambled) and 16 oz coffee

2. Morning water intake: One full water bottle off the bike, and 32 oz during the morning.

3. 10:00 AM - ½ whole grain bagel with low fat peanut butter

4. 11:00 AM - ½ whole grain bagel with low fat peanut butter

Short run at lunch and then hit the weights. After work ride the 10 miles home for dinner.

Post workout whey protein, and another whole grain bagel with peanut butter.

Dinner will be whole grain pasta with chunked chicken, a little cheddar cheese and a little spaghetti sauce. It' already made! Maybe a small salad, maybe not it'll depend.

three cottage-cheese on wheat bread sandwiches. in about 5 minutes, i'm going to get lunch, which will probably be a tuna sandwich and a chicken-salad sandwich.

i've also had about a liter of water and some chugged milk.

i could definitely use some fruit in my diet

A bowl of cut-up pineapple, mango, and nectarine plus blackberries and blueberries, some fat free cottage cheese, a small amount of homemade oatmeal & coconut granola; orange juice and a non fat latte. I'm glad you only asked about today, so I don't have to report the cheeseburger (animal style), fries and chocolate shake I had at In-N-Out to celebrate my first half IM on Saturday. Shoot, too late.

5:30a big glass of orange juice

9:15a 2 oz bag of peanuts

Even with training I'm trying to lose body fat, I need the potassium in the orange juice since I take a diuretic for my blood pressure and the peanuts keep me going till after I swim in the afternoon and eat a sandwich or something.

Today will mark my first ever "brick" workout. I am a little nervous and really don't know what to expect except pain ;)

edit: I suppose I should add that I am 6'2" 230 lbs and have lost about 1 lbs per week for the last 70 weeks and what I have listed makes up the first 2 of 6 meals that I will eat today. I will total approx 2600 cals split 40% carbs 30% protien 30% fat. I will also consume approx 1.5 gal of water.

Interesting that most are missing nutrient dense foods... People watching how many calories their eating, but not the quality foods... A few post have some real good nutrition strategies going, but bar's from the local GNC isn't cutting it as a nutrional breakfast...

Two big bowls of Multigrain Cheerios

One protein shake (2 Cups milk, one banana, 1-1/2 scoops of whey powder, a few ice cubes)

About a quart of water

Five cups of coffee (throughout the early morning, not all at once)

One bag of Snyder's Pretzel Nuggets

One 20 oz Diet Coke

...I also swam 2500 yds this morning.

Soy nuts, hazelnuts, Bran Buds, flaxseed meal, wheat germ, blueberries, milk and soymilk PLUS one big spoonful (~2tbsp) of cottage cheese. Coffee-black. This is my usual. (7am)

Talk about filling. won't be hungry until 1pm

I just finished with school lunch, so my food intake might look a little large for it being just past noon. Once the summer rolls around I'll be forced to make my own lunch and I hope to lose a few of the calories that I've been taking in on a daily basis.

Breakfast (post-swim): large scone, cup of coffee

Lunch (eating with my kids at their End of Grade Test cookout): hamburger, hot dog, scoop of baked beans, scoop of potato salad, two scoops of pasta salad, two slices of watermelon, two scoops of grapes

The scoops are pretty standard ice cream scoopers, if you know what that means. I've also been drinking plenty of water.

I'll workout again this afternoon, but I'll probably end up with a large dinner. I'm one of those people who can ride 120 miles and still end up with a net calorie GAIN for the day.

Disclaimer: I took my last final exam of the semester this morning; I'm ususally not this bad.

1 coffee

1 orange juice

1 cranberry juice

2 pancakes – straight white flour, the kind served in cafeterias everywhere (mmm, refined carbs)

peanut butter on pancakes

honey on top of pancakes

1 blueberry muffin

1 small blueberry streusel (see comment on refined carbs above)

another big coffee



It’s 11:37am and I’m thinking about food again.



Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper…

Got my butt kicked at Columbia yesterday. Therefore...

Breakfast: 12 oz. OJ, Bowl of frosted shredded wheat w/ 1% milk

Snack: 3 oz. trail mix, 1 can of Pepsi (that's my post-butt-whipping treat)

Lunch: Chicken/artichoke/roasted red pepper, etc. salad (made by my wonderful wife), Few forkfuls of macaroni salad, Blueberry yogurt.

This afternoon's projected snack: fruit.

Just finished my weekly 10 mile run, added to the above, one protein shake, (1 navel orange, 1scoop soy protein powder, 1scoop gatorade poweder, 1tbl honey) lots of water, and am about to fix my lunch of a large salad with tuna and EVERYTHING else. I don't want to list out the ingredients for this salad but a while back I figured the calories at 650-750. this is my normal lunch.

English muffin w/ smuckers old Fash PB and jelly. #3 washtub size bowl of,,, Cheerios, Complete oat bran, Kashi crunch, Heartland lowfat raisin granola, blueberries, EAS protien shake, Skim milk= awesome bowl of cereal!!

LUNCH: pbj on wheat, Sardines in mustard sauce on wheat, flavor w/ louisiana hot sause! Handful of sunflower seeds, small portion of yogurt, 3 strawberries, handfull of blue corn chips.

i noticed a number of chastising comments re: eating gnc-style food products. here's the thing, i've got a very balanced diet overall. i buy very few things that have labels, pack good lunches that include whole grain breads, low-fat meats, veggies, cottage cheese, and a serving of fruit ... i snack lightly ... i cook real, good food nightly - from scratch - for myself and a fellow-triathlete girlfriend ... but i have go get out of bed at 6am, leave the house 40 mins later, and have an hour commute each way. i'm not a morning person and i have no desire to eat within an hour of waking and less of a desire to get out of bed early enough to facilitate a good breakfast at home. therefore, if you ask me what i've eaten by 9am, it's coming out of a wrapper!

so, which is better (athletically speaking) - ding-dongs / honey bun or 34g's of protein surrounded by deeelicious dark chocolate?

it seemed like a good choice to me.

6:15, bowl of organic cereal, some sort of wheat/bran flakes with a cup of skim milk. 1 cup of V8 (I hate the stuff it makes me want to throw up just thinking about it)

7:45, ProLab "Naturally Lean Matrix" meal replacement powder. 20g complex carbs, 20g protein, 4g fat. (Cinnamin Oatmeal flavor)

8:30, peanut butter and banana sandwich, - two slices 100% whole wheat bread, natural smuckers peanut butter – no sugar added, and chopped banana.

10:00, Stoneyfield Farms Organic yogurt and sliced banana mixed– (yeah, I’ve got a bunch of banana’s getting brown so I’m throwing them down today)

11:30, whole wheat wrap, 3-4 oz lean sliced ham (top shelf stuff), two slices provalone, organic mixed baby greens, and mustard. Apple (red).

2:30, orange.

Water constantly.

1 can of progresso chicken noodle soup

about 15-20 saltine crackers

another apple

32 more ounces of water (yeah, I have to piss a lot)

1 hershey chocolate bar (I'm also a chocolate junkie, I have to get my daily fix)

1 can of diet coke

that is all so far...............

breakfast: 1 bowl Lucky Charms (sometimes gotta have a Kid's cereal), 1/3 c cottage cheese w/ sliced mango, 2 cups coffee

snack: 1 chocolate donut (not typical but a patient brought them in, it would have been rude not to eat it ;)

Lunch (eating it as I type) left-over grilled halibut w/ mango salsa, small portion of pasta w/ clam sauce, low-fat raspberry yogurt (non-fat's gross) and an apple.

Dinner: TBD




I forgot to mention the 3 or 4 (I lose count) Peppermint Altoids. I'm a junkie, but I think my patients appreciate it.

I ate this before my ride to work:
  • GNC Mega-Man Multivitamins
  • 1 can Kirkland Signature Weight Loss Shake (Costco brand)
  • A few sips of water


Since then:
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 ziploc bag of baby carrots
  • 1 Clif Bar
  • 2 spoonfuls of soy nuts
  • 40+ oz of water


Yet to come...
  • 2 spoonfuls of soy nuts
  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 40+ oz of water


Then ride home from work and do a crazy hill climb (if I feel like it...)

Dinner is TBD.

Breakfast-1 bowl of cheerios, 1 cup of coffee, 30 0z. water. Lunch- 2 pancakes with apples, 1 grilled chicken breast, handful of okra (fried unfortunately), cup of dumplings, 1 biscuit with honey, 1 cornbread muffin, unsweetened iced tea. Snack-cup of trailmix. Unusual day for me as I have been very hungry and craving carbs. Maybe related to the last 3 days of hard work-outs and morning swim today. Not my typical training diet. I feel like I could eat non-stop.

It's 3 p.m. So far I've sucked down:

1 ridiculously big bowl of Honey Nut Bran cereal
4 bananas
1 turkey sandwich on wheat
lots of fresh broccoli (with a little veggie dip)
2 peanut butter cookies
1 raisen bran muffin
20 oz. of Diet Coke
Lots of water

Had a big mileage weekend and did a fast 6-mile run earlier today, so I'm damn hungry.

9:30: Banana

12:00 Veggie salad with chicken, walnuts and dried cranberries.

I'll have plain greek yogurt (15 g protiein!!) at 5:00 mixed with fresh strawberries, blueberries and a little oat granola.

I'll have a very light dinner, if any (maybe just a hunk of dark chocolate, don't even start on me slowtwitchers, I am NOT giving this up).

Day off exercise, but this is about what I usually eat, though dinner will be another salad if I've worked out.

I have the metabolism of an earthworm.

Wow, that's the 1st time I've heard someone use stevia on ST. I can identify with some of your food choices!

It's 1.18p my time. I've had:

- 2 slices ezekiel 4:9 sesame bread (aka bible bread) w/almond butter & yogurt topping.
- Water.
- Easy 40min total bike commute to/fro the pool to meet up w/Khai for a swim.
- 550m swim + treading practice. (I'm just a beginner!)
- 28oz Leoade during bike & swim.
- Big bowl of leftover kamut pasta w/curry tofu/dandelion/tomato sauce.
- 1/2 can leftover sprite.
- A few of almonds.

lunch: chicken salad

afternoon snack: 2 bags of cashew, 1 pack of peanut butter crackers

It's 4:36 and I am starving.. ran out of snacks and all I can think about is dinner. I will make chicken with brocoli. I ate bad all week-end, trying to get back on track here.

Hmmm, am I the only one here thinking that triathletes eat like hobbits? For breakfast I had.... then for second breakfast I had.... next came elevensies....

I'm at a stupid conference for work so I'm eating crap.

Breakfast - 4 slices of cantaloupe, 1 slice of pineapple, 1 small apple croissant thing, and a diet dr pepper

Breakfast snack - handful of almonds, bottle of water

Lunch - fish and chips, diet coke

Lunch snack - small package of cookies from the airplane last night

Off to get some more water.....

Thats a good day. On Sat after the Galena Tri was cancelled I had a Culvers butter burger, shake, fries, cheese curds later in the day, and a burritto for dinner. There is alway one day in the week, mostly weekends or when im traveling that I lose focus on my diet.

between: 1 sugar wafel (belgium's speciality) and aqua and a peach
training: 2.5 miles swim training easy
bike training: 40 miles easy
dinner: one big spaghetti and a soja dessert with peach

i never eat power bars just for lunch! i prefer fruits, i only use powebars if i ride more then 80 miles

Breakfast: egg white omelet with cooked organic chopped tomatoes and flax oil. Old fashioned oatmeal with blue berries and low fat soy/rice milk. A bunch of vitamins and minerals

Snack: Lundberg popcorn/brown rice cake with a little almond butter and a little all fruit preserves.

Lunch: Big salad with lots of fresh veggies (cut-up apple, cooked sweet and red-skin potato dried cranberries and cherries, green beans, spring mix, brown rice, celery, carrots, beets and natural turkey breast. Extra virgin olive oil and flax oil with balsamic vinegar.

Snack: no snack today as I'm taking a rest day.

Dinner: Homemade cabbage roll with natural ground turkey breast and brown rice and tomato sauce. Steamed broccoli. Steamed red-skin potatoes with a little tomato sauce, flax oil, and a little creamed corn on top of them.

Ate poorly today...

Breakfast - nada. Late for work... kept drinking coffee till 11:30.
Lunch - spaghetti w/ ground turkey, 1 dr pepper.
Snack - 1 coffee cake from Starbucks and more coffee.
pre-supper snack - ice cream (bananas foster)
Supper - steamed rice, fried tofu w/ ground turkey.
Pre-bed snack - Finishing the rest of the ice cream right now.... :)

Snack: 2x Eat natural bars (One apricot & almond, one Fruit & Macadamia) One banana, one orange

Lunch will be chicken salsa wrap plus 15 cherries

Snack: Pear, orange and apple

Dinner: Paella with lots of seafood/ chicken & big salad

Snack: raisins and cherries

Eating enough!

Yeah, the brick was not that bad at all really. It wasn't that long so I am sure that had a lot to do with it. Didn't really have to be though because I am only doing sprint tri's and open water swims along with 1 longish bike tour this year. Next year I plan to do 1 1/2 IM and if that goes well I will try a full IM the following year. Thanks for the kind words about my weight loss. I only mentioned it in my post to put my food intake into perspective. I eat differently than most folks I know, but oddly enough not all that differently from many of the folks on this board.
