Re: Best time to sell TT bike? [swimbikerun723]
I used to think if you were a seller right about now would be a great time to sell a bike, new people getting an itch to do a triathlon this summer, but I watch ebay constantly and I can't really tell anymore. You'd think after the fall, that would the worst time, because everyone probably is trying to dump their bike to get a new one for the next year.

I'd still say right now is probably a good time, to be honest. Spring, or late spring.

And I agree with the other poster, the pricing is the most important issue and like houses most buyers who are willing to part with dough are savy. Most buyers can research what ending auction price is in that range for that bike. If you are way out of line, it won't sell.

I can tell immediately when a seller is in that range and appreciate them recognizing that and not wasting everyone's time. Many don't research the prices of their own bikes. And want to go by "how much they want to get out of the sale," due to what they bought it for.

And I see sellers all the time, who are just insane, and I regularly see for example an old Litespeed Blade, 2001, with ultegra and some standard Mavic training wheels with its seller wanting 1800 to 2200 for it. Ain't going to probably happen. He can try, but good luck.

And that bike will sit there on ebay for 6 months until the seller pulls it down. Doesn't make any difference they bought it for 3500 retail in 2001, or they spent 1500 in components.
