Montana: where men are men and politicians body slam reporters
Quote | Reply
The republican candidate looking to fill the open house seat in Montana is being accused of body slamming an agressive reporter and breaking his glasses. There is an audio recording on the link below. The election is tomorrow.

Yup, live in red lodge.
This won't change the base, but could shift swing/ undecided voters.
Given quist was a weak populist candidate who has closed the gap (mostly because acha will hurt many in Montana) and gianforte failed at his governor bid, could be interesting.

No, it was a limited interview, no video. No conspiracy on that. Even fox news that was there say he slammed him.
Yes preachy obnoxious reporter, but living here and having has to deal with Greg trying to buy, and fail, his way into office, this isn't that surprising.

If he loses the election people undoubtedly will point to this night before the election incident. Interestingly enough, there was a bill brought by a Republican senator to conduct this special election by mail in ballot as an effort to help rural counties save money. However most other republicans voted against it feeling it would give an advantage to he dems and the bill was killed. Had it passed, many voters would've already cast their ballots. Now there is a chance some of those voters will swing the other way which could cost the republicans the election. It would be a really interesting it this turns into a case of bad karma.

You are changing your story. First the reporter got what he deserved, then he threw himself down. Even you are admitting that the snowflake candidate needs to toughen up if he's going to handle the big bad MSM.

Yeah it's complicated. He lousy to a democratic incumbent for governor, but the house seat had been Republican for 25+years. This race is way closer than they should be, given the Democrat is more Bernie than Hillary.
Interestingly, the billings Gazette, largest newspaper in mt, just rescinded their support of Greg.
Interesting times. Initially I would habe said this was straight up an endorsement of trump. Now it is fuzzy.
We will see tomorrow.

How is that "bad cops?" Being physically assaulted does impede the process of journalism, and I could totally understand setting aside ideology to support safety within the profession. "Bad cops" is like planting evidence or something. Which doesn't appear to have happened here since there are a bunch of eyewitnesses.

Also, there's nothing wrong with being a sissy reporter. It's not a profession that should require macho-ness.

I understand that it's cool these days to trash the media and journalism. But at some point there's a line, and I think physical assault might be that line.

Candidate should have controlled his temper. Reporter, formerly with the Daily Beast and now the Guardian (unbiased and objective I'm sure) goaded the candidate by obnoxiously confronting him, by some accounts multiple times over the past several days. It worked. Candidate is an idiot for letting it get to him.

The liberal left have pumped $17 million into Montana over the past two months in an attempt to make this election close. By all accounts the Republican, not a great candidate was still going to win by close to 15%. Not what the Democratic Party want so the faux media (see Daily Beast and Guardian) took it into their own hands to create a story. It worked. Had the Republican candidate locked himself up and not talked at all the last week he would still win by 15%. Instead he gave the media their story.

Say something funny and I'll laugh. Continue to ridicule someone, who was slammed to the ground by an irate politician who can't take a question, because he doesn't meet your manly requirement and I'll still call you an idiot.

Your first response - "sounds like the little sissy got what he deserved"

Third - "drama queen. posted a picture of himself in the ambulance."

Fourth - its a lie, the little sissy threw himself to the ground."

Fifth - "Couple (dare I say it) fox reporters are siding with the sissy"

Sixth - "witnesses agreed the turd was knocked to the ground after the montana dude asked him to get the phone out of his face. he didn't ask a third time.
No, they didn't - "To be clear, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff's deputies"

This is your basic theme through the whole thread and you think it's funny. A journalist, who you apparently don't like, was asking a question and was thrown to the ground. But you think it's funny because the guy doesn't have a manly enough voice for you. It's very telling that you don't seem to have a problem with a politician beating the shit out of a reporter as long as he's on your side.

That's why your an idiot internet tough guy.

Then you missed the point. All you're concerned about is the guy is a sissy, not that a politician didn't like getting asked questions he was uncomfortable with so he reacted aggressively. All you have is, he's a sissy. That's just pathetic.

I will give you credit, you did finally say what he did was wrong. Bravo!

This isn't directed at you in particular, bit many don't understand what happens here in Montana.
First this is a special election. Over two thirds of the vote were cast by early ballot before this little shitstorm. Second, you can't change your vote in Montana, unlike many other states. Would that totally shift the vote, unlikely.
From a house perception, zinke won by 16%, trump won by over 20. Quist was a Bernie type progressive and was 30 points down when he started. This is, by Montana standards, an expected but weak win.

Reality is Greg should have had an easy double digit win. Although 6 to 7 sounds solid it was a weak performance here. That had issues for 2018. Depends a lot on acha and tax reform here.

I'm ambivalent about this. We can look at it as hyperpartisanship in which literally nothing matters except party affiliation, and the Rs outnumbered the Ds (which is likely true in Montana); or we can see it as a manifestation of the Trump era of politics, in which physically assaulting a reporter from a liberal mainstream media outlet simply isn't much of a downside to the base and independents; or in the most generous interpretation, that people understand that policy implications of an election matter far more to their personal situation than does the character of the politician. I suspect it's some combination of all three.

It's hard to get any breeding done when everybody lives 20 miles apart! Reminds me of an old joke:

Joe moves into his new house in rural Montana. A few days later, he sees a truck pull up his driveway.

"Howdy! I'm Pete, your next-door neighbor - I live about 20 miles East of here. I'm havin' a party on Saturday night and wanted to invite ya."

Joe says, "That's nice of ya. What kind of party are you havin'?"

Pete replies, "Oh, y'know, kind of your typical Saturday night shindig... There will be some drinkin' and a lot of bullshittin', some dancin', wrestlin', and fightin', and a good chance there'll be some fuckin'."

Joe replies, "Well, that sounds alright... How many people are gonna be there?"

Pete says, "Just me and you."

Right, the guy you agree with has been tongue and cheek. Obviously you have not read the entire thread. At least up until the point he said the guy was an ass. But of course, you haven't had an original thought in a thread ever so I wouldn't expect you to understand.
