Q-Rings incompatible with SRAM etap?
Guys
I am a bit desperate, I bought the new etap try group and mounted in with my Rotor Q-Rings, now my chain comes off when upshifting. Spoke to SRAM and they said etap was designed to work only with Sram...Might be my fault for not checking beforehand, but, has any of you managed to get this working somehow?
I am still waiting for Rotor's answer.
Thanks for your help

I had Rotor Q-Rings on my Cervelo S2 w/ Ultegra Di2...had a lot of trouble getting good shifting for a long time (was traveling, that didn't help) and I wasn't capable of tuning it correctly, nor could I find good info on why it wouldn't line up.. Finally got it done well at a good shop when I returned home from traveling, and it was great. I know they are different mechanisms but I can't believe it's not possible.

+1

I am running eTap and Q-Rings on 3D cranks without a problem.

Guys
3 different mechanics have seen the bike and tried...so, can you please help me and tell me how did you do it?
Is you could upload video or photo would be fantastic!!
Thanks a lot

LBS did the install, so I don't know if there was any 'secret installation sauce' involved.
I am sure you have seen the SRAM install video.

Fantastic !!!. Did you install the OCP3 (SRAM) 50/36 Q Rings, or do you have the classic Q Rings with various OCP settings ?

Do you get any rubbing ? or chain suck ?

I tried the Q Rings before on RED 22 and had some issues with the FD.

I found I have a slightly different issue, I've set my upper limit while in 53/11 to just barely eliminate any rub. Shifting from small to big if I am turning the cranks too slowly or stop, shift, wait, pedal, the chain never makes the jump to the big ring. While spinning the cranks with a little bit of force during the shift the chain makes the jump over. Any thoughts?

I'm running it on both road- and tai-bike with O-Symmetric 38-52 setup and that is much more extreme then even the QXL ones. You definitely should be able to get it running sweet without rubbing.

I did post some pics of the setup on my P5 somewhere on the forum. If you search for eTap posts under my forum-name, you'll come across them.

Guys
I still did not manage to make this work, so ended buying the SRAM rings...I'd still prefer the Rotor Qrings. Any help is much appreciated.

I believe etap is no different than mechanical so it should fit.

1.-Take the chain off and unscrew the derailleur clamping screw and push the cable aside.
2.-Turn the inner limit screw fully in so the derailleur moves outwards.
3.-Lightly unscrew the screw that fixes the derailleur to the frame so you can make adjustments
4.-Turn the derailleur so the markings in the top of the derailleur are aligned with the largest ring when looking from above.
5.-Then move the derailleur up or down so the widest part of the ring is aligned with the markings in the inside of the derailleur. This is the only part that is specific to the Q-Rings. Check that you haven't messed with 4 when doing 5.
6.- Tighten the clamp checking that you are not messing with 4 (sometimes the derailleur rotates when it is tightented)
7.-Put back chain, adjust the inner limit screw so that the derailleur barely misses the chain when in the small ring and big cog combination. Pull the cable, tighten the screw and you are good to go.

My LBS set me up with a 53/39 Rotor Q Ring and Etap on my cervelo S3. Works wonderfully.

According to sram's setup video it is the same as the yaw mechanical. Except for the obvious which is the cable adjustment. All that I described applies to etap.

Thanks a lot guys
Argmac, great stuff the detailed instructions...I am hopeless though, my LBS tried and tried, they say they cannot manage.
I am the first guys they've seen with etap, and first one etap+Qrings....

I don't know about electronic shifting systems and Rotor Q-Rings.

I DO KNOW, that with Rotor Q-Rings, 11-speed cassettes (11 - 28), compact cranks, and 34 inner front rings, it starts to get VERY tricky in terms of getting the whole set -up working optimally. Many good mechanics can't do it. Many more will beg-off. But there are a few who REALLY know what they are doing that can get this set up working smoothly.

The challenge is you are asking the whole system to do A LOT over a huge range, and pushing things to their limits.

Any idea if Q Rings are compatible with the SRAM Red etap crank?

Realize this is an old post, but I do have some advice. I have QRings with a Sram red yaw mechanical, and there are a couple things that you need to have PERFECT in order for this setup to work. I've discovered these couple items through online research after having at least 4 bike mechanics completely fail at fixing the same issue you describe, chain falls into the frame when shifting from small to large ring in front.
1. Set the gap between the bottom of your FD cage and the tallest tooth of your large QRing to exactly 1.5 mm. See Rotor's YouTube video on this for some guidance on where to measure. Rotor says 1.5 to 2mm gap is ok in the video, but set it to 1.5mm.

2. This is CRITICAL: Make sure the outside of the FD cage, when adjusted to the big ring position, is exactly parallel to the QRing. Then set your inner/outer limits accordingly to prevent any chain rub or over travel.

That should drastically improve your shifting. Hope this helps someone.
