By law, the UCI states that all bikes must contain at least one triangle, and have a camera mounted on the front.

More seriously, eight riders from the 22 teams are required to have a camera during each stage. The teams can choose which rider, and that is obviously not going to be their GC rider, sprinter, or TT specialist. It's good for the spectators, and good for the sport.

I really like the catlike helmet from a looks perspective but have no idea about aero performance. It was at Interbike in Europe but never made it stateside.

I keep checking their site but no dice.

Just did a little more sleuthing and it's called the Rapid Tri. There's a vented and unvented model for TT and triathlon. Can't find it on catlike's website: http://www.catlike.es/...crono-and-triathlon/

Found it for sale here: https://www.i-ride.co.uk/2015-Rapid-Tri.aspx

I have had my eye out on this for at least a year and I haven't been able to get any information since September of 2014. I hope it makes it stateside soon. So far I think both versions were used in the TT. It looked like Quintana used one type and another rider used the other.

I found this interesting as well as it looked like Fabian was on an edmonda or domane and not the new madone on stage 2

I'll bite.

I have seen pages of discussion on this forum about the aero penalties of a straw. A straw, FFS!!!

Bike companies spend hundreds of hours in wind tunnels getting exactly the right profile on their components and then race organisers bolt a small brick on the front of all that carbon fibre aeroness!

In a 13.8k TT I wouldn't think it would add more than 1-2 seconds at most with that placement in front of that deep section of the nose. I'm sure they know from the wind tunnel exactly what the aero penalty is. They aren't putting it on their top TT team riders either from what I can tell.

Here's the video of stage 1 with the onboard GoPro, I think it's quite cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Iku-qxMPdI

You have posted on the commentators before and I could not disagree with you more. Liggett and Sherwen need no performance enhancement to be entertaining for three weeks.

You need to listen to an alternative just once to understand what you are missing. For instance, Daniel Lloyd and Carlton Kirby on Bein Sports are excellent.

I think the Bein Sports telecasts are superior all the way around.

Agree 110% about the BeIn sports cycling coverage. Lloyd and Kirby are great.
And the BeIn soccer commentator, Ray Hudson, is awesome- super enthusiastic, knowledgeable, great catch phrases ("Real Madrid's defense is spread out like spandex on Miami Beach" or "this piece of orgasmic passing is perfection"). He would be a blast to listen to as a cycling commentator, even if he knows nothing about cycling!

Probably the TT3, they had a visor, but were never sold.

Could not agree more. Wife and I were presently surprised and frequently laughing at the humorous quips when we found BeIn Sports in our Uverse lineup while searching for Giro coverage. By contrast, my even my wife has started to groan and/or correct Phil's numerous gaf's during this years tour coverage on NBC Sports Network.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey, I don't give a shit what they put on the bikes. I was referring to the pages of analysis on here from anal retentives that criticise guys for having an 8mm straw instead of a 5mm one. They must be shitting puppies at the thought of that mini block of flats being one of the first things to break the wind on a bike.

Tony Martin also seems to use the TT3 occasionally. Used it for the German Nationals and quite a few other high-profile races. Considering the McLaren and the S-Works were released since, I wonder what's up with that? Tests faster on them specifically? I would've imagined Tony would be Spesh's favourite tunnel dummy.

I think as everyone says, helmets are VERY personal. Some athletes the S-works TT will be faster and some the TT3.

Sorry if it's been mentioned but did I hear the commentators (Steve, maybe?) say some of the riders were using 'cross or "sissy" brakes today? Found that interesting but makes total sense given the cobbles. I have them on my gravel bike and find myself wanting some on my regular road bike now.
