Interesting... Two points:

- A team composed of only triathletes shouldn't win such a race.

- Such an even is bad for triathlon, not good.

Pfff. $100K divided by 3 = $33K. After tax in states like CA, that's like $18K left. I wouldn't expect all that many super-teams to show, especially if a lot of teams THINK others will show.

That said, I'd love to see it. But make the prize $500K to liven it up a bit!

Uh...I'm sure a quality pro cyclist could go 4:30 on that course especially considering they don't have to worry about running afterward.

I might be wrong in my thinking, but really, could a pro rider do this solo. I would think that they may really much on the peloton draft to maintain an average speed necessary for this distance. I don't think they'd (or at least the average pro rider) TT very well for this distance.

"Ok, so now imagine if 3-5 teams like that showed. What a n unbelieveable race that would be. I would almost want to skp the race and watch! "

Yeah, imagine a pack of 3 or 4 guys hitting mile 20 of the run together knowing they were going to get a $66,000 beat down from their teammates if they don't win...

Is the RD high. A strong Cat 1/2 cyclist,a mediocre D1 swimmer and and a decent runner (2:30 guy) could do this pretty easy.

10,000 feet on the bike...2000+ on the run. I think the bike could be tight but doable for the right cyclist, The run would probably be hard to break 2:25 given that much elevation, especially with so much toward the end. Makes me want to go watch. I'll bet 5-10 marquee teams worth watching.

After reading all the chit chat going back and forward, I just wanted to let you know that if you hear someone needing a swimmer let him/her know I am available for the challenge. I raced the full Nevada Triathlon last year, got out first after the swim (together with Dave Scott), with an official time of 51:19, I could certainly chop off a few minutes (3 or 4 at least) knowing that I don't have to go for the rest of the triathlon. I am not a pro (my profession feeds me and certainly feeds my hobbies) but I have been swimming for 27 years (last 10 years as open water swimmer) and I would love to go there, be part of an elite relay and have lots of fun.

How about giving $100k to the pro TRIATHLETES instead?
This event could only be won by single-sporters....
Relay triathlon is NOT triathlon.

I think if some big name teams got together to try it, it would raise awareness for the race. It would probably also increase entries. By doing both of those things, they may be able to land some more sponsors. Then they can give a good prize purse to the pros. If any non M-dot has a chance to survive it might be this one. Money flows in Vegas.

Exactly: It's in Vegas. I don't have a problem at all with the team concept ... They should have all sorts of purses and odds and stuff.

You should make a phone call..."Hey Lance, want to make $33,333.33 for the LAF just for going for 1 bike ride? Ullrich said you're probably not in shape any more but just thought I'd ask..."

Look at it this way 100K to the top pro that turns in a comparable slow time on a tough course. OR a team of, likely fairly known, "specialist" that will likely turn in a time faster than any possible time on any other course by a single athlete.

You have the name recognition and a "promotable" time that will turn ALOT of eyes to this race. This is the type of thing that will put a race like Silverman on the map. Considering that IMNA races don't even allow relays this is something they can't do.

It can only be a good thing for the sport and better for the amatuer athletes, IMO.

Could be $100K to the first team of 3 where each person has had a tri licence for 2 or 3 years.

Just emailed a 2:17 marathon friend of mine and asked if he is not interested to pass it on to our sub 2:11 friend.

A swimmer posted now who to ride? I have an idea or two.

If this is for real I can guarantee that a Swedish team of me, Bjorn and Clas Bjorling will be there!

However, I am skeptical until I see real confirmation...

That is awesome Jonas. And if you don't pull it off, I will try to organize a poker night where you can at least take all my money. :)

I just spoke to Bjorn and though there are quite a few questionmarks and the race is at the end of the year, he was all for the idea. as I said though, there are issues to be solved but the concept rocks!!

Norsemans bikecourse is probably tougher (and colder!)and he rode 5.20 in a triathlon and that was with 10 k extra added to the course due to change of T2. So, maybe a 4.40-45 for a flat-out ride is possible here, a 45ish swim if I can be in top shape (I was the Swedish Openwater Champ in '05) and hammer it out and Clas could certanly run a 2.30. With that said, I'm sure someone gives Tyler Hamilton a call and finds an eager kenyan to run....

However, this is great for the sport and great for the Silverman in putting their race on the map...
