How aero is the system? Has there been any aero testing?

The Versa computer mount will not be sold separately and is not compatible with the Torpedo Mini Mount unfortunately.

The new Versa computer mount requires 2 holes to install on the mount and unfortunately the Torpedo Mini Mount has 1 hole.

Hi,

I have an XLab Torpedo 100 that I would like to convert to the Torpedo Versa mounting system. My question is: if I buy the aluminum plate, do I get the mounting brackets as well? Looking at this picture on TriSports it doesn't look like it:
http://www.trisports.com/...-aluminum-mount.html
However, I don't see the mounting bracket as a part sold individually. Which is it?

Less power, more aero.

When the individual Versa mounts are available they will come with brackets/straps in order to mount them.

At this point in time though, I am not sure when the availability date for the individual mounts will be.

Candice,

This Refill Bottle on Trisports is the new anti-leak model? Just want to be sure before I order. Thanks!

Only the black bottle is leak-free.

We have not introduced the Super-sealed leak free feature on the clear bottles in this kit. They are going straight into the Versa systems and out the door!

We will be re-launching this Refill Upgrade Kit with leak-free bottles in the next couple weeks I would think. May even rename it so that it is clear the bottles are in fact the new super sealed leak free editions.

I just bought a Torpedo bottle a few weeks ago and was dumbfounded as to how this product was ever deemed fit for sale in the first place. Is it really too much to ask that a water bottle designed to carry fluids not have a freaking hole in it...by design? I'm still shocked that XLAB actually charged consumers for this product.

On the plus side, I contacted XLAB about getting a refund and they kindly sent me the new 'leak free' Torpedo bottle. I can attest that it works as it should have all along and is actually watertight. Unfortunately, they sent me the white one instead of the black, but at least I can use it as originally intended.

Candice,

Will the new computer mount hold a Garmin Node computer on it with zip ties? I was very unhappy last year to purchase a Torpedo system and discover that the mount was useless unless you had an Edge or something similar. I just zip tie my Node onto an aero bar as it is. I am excited about a straw that doesn't tear in 2 months and a black bottle, but the computer mount worries me.

Do you mean the 2nd straw hole? Don't they give you a rubber plug for the one not in use?

No, it's the breather hole. If you tape it shut then It creates a vacuum and the straw doesn't work. This is what the new bottle fixed. Do not waste your money on the old bottle...you would be better off strapping a bowl of water on your aero bars!!!

For computers without the mounting tabs like the Garmin edge you would use the aero computer mount which is included when you purchase a versa http://www.xlab-usa.com/...-computer-mount.html Its not quite as adjustable as the stock garmin mount but it should work.

The node will have to be used on the Aero Computer Mount. Does your computer mount look like the one on this page: http://www.xlab-usa.com/...-computer-mount.html? It is wider than our 1st generation. I have used a Timex on there and my Operations Manager uses a Cateye and we haven't experienced any issues.

There has to be a hole in the bottle if you have a bite valve, otherwise as you have experienced you cannot take in any liquids. The hole on the earlier systems was a pin hole located in the solid lid. We had very few complaints on the leaking (when using the solid clear lid) and the majority when the bottle was tilted up like when the bike is sitting in transition. We rode the toughest roads we could find here in San Diego, when testing the Torpedo System 100/400 before the actual launch and there was no significant leakage so it was approved for production. It was a great improvement compared to others on the market at that time.

On the new Torpedo Versa systems, we have closed this hole up and drilled an additional hole in the bottle where we put the breather valve. There is still a hole in this valve, but it only opens when you try to drink. It closes back up when you are not drinking and thus creating the leak-free bottle.

Installed it last night. Really like the installation, easy and no zip ties.

Question about the dolphin valve ( guess it's called...), popped out 3 or 4 times in messing around with the bottle and which straw hole etc. I'm sure during the jostling of a race or transition it's gonna pop out somewhere. Would adding a bit of superglue affect it in any way, or is that a bad idea? My bars are also tilted up a bit, wondering if I left it out or lost it would much fluid come out of that hole?

Have not used it on a bumpy road so hopefully it stays in place but the garmin placement seems perfect so far

Spoke to the engineers, they recommended if you want to use any glue, use a silicon glue. Place this type of glue around the hole of the valve and then plug the valve in. May be good to tape the valve overnight to make sure the glue sets.

One way to check and make sure the valve is installed and all the way in is to feel underneath and ensure that it is all the way through the hole. There's a triangle part which is easy to get through, and then a very thin circle - that thin circle should be squeezed all the way through the hole. I am hoping this makes sense!

If you left the valve out or you lost it, I would say it will leak quite a bit. It is a small hole, but there is nothing to stop the liquid coming out once the valve is gone.

Candace (or others), I don't know that I've seen this discussed but is there any way to-- or need to-- level out the bottle for those of us with upwardly angled aerobars?

It's not steep, but the only issue I can really see is the straw is not quite long enough to reach the back of the bottle, where it needs to be to catch all the liquid. Couldn't figure out any way to level them.

Rode it on Saturday and it's a really good system. The garmin placement is perfect (was using an Z4/A2) and the whale tail holds the straw down nicely for me (i am using the speedfill type bite valve so it's a little bigger). Well done.

Hey,

Glad to hear you are liking the Versa!! We do offer some spacers which can help level the bottle. If you want to make sure you get the last drop of liquid, I would recommend leveling it. Another tip is cutting the straw at an angle and run the long side of the straw along the bottom to theoretically scoop the liquid up.

I will send your feedback onto our team about leveling the bottle for angled aerobars. Appreciate the feedback!
