Altitude conversion.. ??

http://www.csi.org/coursealti.aspx

I believe that even for qualifying standards for US swimming, that you get to take the deductions. I tried to find it on their site, but the calculators were down for some reason..For my swim it came out to 7.46 seconds, not nearly enough..(-;

Nice one Bo, that puts you on top of the leader board i bet, 10;33 converted to yards for the 1000tt. And doesn't it feel good to be ahead of last year already? For me i'm a bit behind since i was swimming with the group this time last year, so hope to catch up here real soon..Jordan just challenged me to a swim meet here in early Feb, well not really a challenge, more of an invitation, but i think i will have him swim the mile plus a few more events, and then goad him into the 400IM right after. It would be my only hope, and even then he will probably kick my ass..

Didn't know you were over 3000ft, but when i plug it into the calculator, it says you get 5.3 seconds off your time, so that puts you at 10;27+.. Gotta take it where you can..(-;

You guys and your altitude thing... man up!! LOL

I haven't swam since last Sunday, will swim tomorrow and, like you, Monty, if it all feels good, I'll give the 1000 another shot. Also, again, I'll try to get someone to take 10+ minutes out of their swim to get my splits. I'm a cheapass and my old watch's band broke years ago and I made my own from velcro straps that barely keep it on my wrist. It wouldn't hold up and stay on my wrist at the speed I go through the water.

My house sits at 4000' //

Nobody cares about where your house is, that is unless the pool you swim in is in the back yard.. I actually have a regulation 25yd pool in my back yard at my house that is 4200ft. Not the one i swam in though, pretty pricey to heat a pool this time of year..

And good luck Steve, you are either gonna be on a mad ass taper and rock the swim, or your arms are going to feel like molten lead at 600, and it will be the worst day of the year for you..

Remind me never to do another 1,000 for time.

12/17:

1100 w/u (including a 500 @ 6:35ish)

1000 for time: 1:09/2:20/3:32/4:43/5:55/7:07/8:19/9:32/10:46/11:59

Lucky to have three bright red digital clocks (synchronized) around the pool, so I can get my splits into/out of various turns. Remembering all of them is another story.

(edit)

If for some reason I get a t-shirt out of this, it damned well better say "I busted my ass for a thousand yards and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

Way to go Ken, looking at the splits i can see why the hate..I completely avoided that pain by sandbagging the 1st 500, but you manned up and went for it, that one had to hurt..Nice Job. Sub 12 is a real milestone, especially for a workout/forum challenge swim. We got to get you to masters nats one of these years to see what you really have in the tank..

As requested , here is the current rankings for the Dark Star 2011 ePostal 1,000 free.

Way to go Ken, the first sub 12:00 posted. The 1,000 free may be one of the most painful races there is. Just keep in mind, I will be suffering another minute more than you did!

Steve/others, just an FYI - I am doing some query mess to handle conversions to short course yards, and selecting the best time posted by an individual, so give me a heads up if your time doesn't seem right. So far, the query seems to be doing its thing properly.

For me, a pretty crappy feeling day, but one step closer to hitting my "taper":

warmup
1 X 200 SoL BACKSTROKE & DOLPHIN KICK
FOR STRANGE DECEMBER VIDS
1 X 300 PULL,KICK,SWIM FREE
6 x 50 PULL, DESC. 1-3 ON :50 REST
MAIN SET
8 X 25 SWIM :10 REST
4 X 50 SWIM :10 REST
2 X 100 SWIM :10 REST
1 X 200 SWIM :30 REST
2 X 100 SWIM :10 REST
4 X 50 SWIM :10 REST
8 X 25 SWIM :10 REST
WARMDOWN
1 X 200 25 KICK ON BACK / FLIP / 25 EASY SWIM
Total: 2,400

All right I went out and *tried* to do this 1000 TT. I don't know how the hell you guys can keep track of time/distance AND try to swim/turn efficiently in a scy pool, I can keep up w/splits well enough on an interval but in a short course pool there is way too much going on for me and I start thinking was that 350 or 400, did I really only do a 1:17 there, then there's the wall again, 400 or 450, etc. I would much prefer a lcm pool for this sort of thing.

w/u: 100 easy, 100 fingerdrag, 100 catchup, 50 kick, 4 x 100 on 2:00 trying to find "race pace" breathing every 2nd but was going too fast, 1:11, 1:08 (pull), 1:08 (pull), 1:12

main: 1000 TT

Went something like 1:11, 2:28, 3:45, ... perhaps a 6:23 at 500 but I had completely lost track of time at that point, could barely see out of my foggy goggles, etc. Kept going to perhaps 700-800 but I really wasn't sure where I was at and just bagged it did 100 easy and left. I'm more of sprinter in the water anyway, anything over 200 straight seems like torture. Now on a bike I can hammer it all day. Heading out for a 10 mile run.

about 1800 scy

Soooo... I did my second, and final 1000TT...

The week off swimming taper worked! It was an odd feeling - I felt like I was slower and didn't nearly have the total body pain as the last one. This time I got the lifeguard to take my splits, and when I finished, he told me I did an extra 50, which I pushed really hard. Damn, had I known, the last 100 would have been a lot faster. The water was about 84, he said 82, but I know it was warmer. I love to try this in mid 70 water sometime.

Here are my splits:
1:05.68
1:08.86 2:14.54
1:10:42 3:24.96
1:11.28 4:36.24
1:10.16 5:46.40
1:11.71 6:58.11
1:12.11 8:10.22
1:13.27 9:23.49
1:13.31 10:36.80
1:14.86 11:51.66

That 1:05 - I really tried hard to slow that down. It just felt really comfortable. But, I'm happy with how this went and it's how I'd like to swim a tri - go out a little fast and make Monty work really hard to find my feet because once he latches on, I won't be able to shake him.

Bo's raw time in seconds is incorrect, and I *think* the time itself is faster than you have.

My master's coach on deck helps ;) I also had an idea what my time was going to be and
left so that I'd finish near a round number (shooting for sub 13, so left at 57:00) so I wouldn't
lose track. My pacing was easy enough, just make sure that seconds show one less every 50.

Sounds like you should have at least had a chance to beat monty. Too bad you didn't finish.

Well done, old man. Almost :20 between first and second 500? I think I was :07 difference. If I went out faster I'd have died even worse. No thanks!

12/18:

50x100 straight through as

10x100 on 1:30
10x (3x100 on 1:40/1:30/1:20 (we missed one of the 1:30s somewhere, so...)
11x100 on 1:30

All between 1:11 and 1:14, most at 1:12, last one at 1:10. Poke me in the eye with a stick next time, instead.

Maybe a week taper is just a little too long. Plus, I need cooler water to rid me of body heat. I should have had the timer guy give me a thumbs up/down to pick up the pace or slow it down based on a 1:10/100. I don't know if I could hold 1:10s, but having an indicator would help - maybe 1:11 or 12.

Reminds me of the first time I ever did YMCA Masters Nationals, and also the first time I ever shaved down (age 28). My PR for the 200 free was about 2:03, and I wanted to break 2:00. So I asked one of the guys to wave a towel at the 100 if I was behind pace (maybe a :59 at the 100). I turned the 100 and saw my teammate waving the towel. I thought to myself "bulls***". It turns out that he was going to wave that towel no matter what my split. I did 1:57.x.
