Well, Gerard left and owns 3T now. I'm not sure Phil is still at Cervelo. Cervelo seems to be going in a different direction. Perhaps this was to try and sell more P5-Xs and make people think about the bike again?

I wouldn't be surprised if they're already all bought and accounted for. I would be surprised if any of them are actually ridden.

As a long-time Cervelo rider I feel a bit disappointed by this. For me their brand was about bringing accessible innovation to the masses. Now it is just about flashy show pieces.

I wish they would go back to their core brand. Reduce focus on the p5x, drop the p2-p3 distinction, and focus on practical innovation.

They likely had to spend almost zero time on it. It's a paint job.

Also don't forget that Cervelo is owned by Pon Holdings. Pon is a distributor of Lamborghinis. Now they can become a distributor of bikes *inside* Lamborghini dealerships. Lamborghini dealerships populated by millionaires.

The one P5x purchase I've seen in person is when a Saudi-prince looking dude with an entourage walked into a bike shop and asked what the best triathlon bike was. The shop owner, no idiot, said, "The P5x." The dude motioned to one of his entourage, said, "Get two of those." Then he left, and the entourage guy sorted out the details.

Why, as a company, would you turn down free money like that? Money that funds all that accessible innovation to the masses?

It's easy to turn down when you're not responsible for making payroll every month for all your engineers.

Not at all. We can sell another size Large and just can’t get it from cervelo.

I like the yellow and black, but why do they have a swarm of cloned fidget spinners all over the bike?

How appropriate they partnered with Lamborghini, this is the perfect bike for people that like overpriced status symbols.

I can't begin to tell you how many of my clients tell me not to bother recommending a P5-X because they don't want to be seen on one.

Apparently according to Cervelo's Instagram, only a few of these are left. They will sell out today probably.

If I had that kind of disposable income, I'd buy 2 just to piss off the haterz here. One to race on and one for my Velotron ;-)

Wow. Any idea why?

Sure. They think it's too expensive for what you get (true), and they refer to it as, no joke, a dentisit's bike (shows you the negative influence this forum can have).

I'm not a fan, but to each their own. I really do like the P-5X and it is way nicer in real life than pictures show. On the other hand, I also want my children to go to university and stay married.....so my new generation P-3 with Red/Force 10 speed it is, until I win the lottery and maybe not even then.

I don't think it's a negative. The sport has a very real problem with people thinking you have to spend a ton of money to be involved.

How do they know it's too expensive for what you get if they don't test with it (I assume they're telling you not to bother before spending the time to check it out).

If I was rich, it'd make my starting rotation of bikes to test for myself, along with the P5, Speed Concept, IA etc. Because for one person it tested really fast.

I predict in 5 years no one will be laughing at Cervelo for the P5x.

How do they know it's too expensive for what you get if they don't test with it (I assume they're telling you not to bother before spending the time to check it out). Common sense. An $11K Ultegra bike that's really not much faster than any of the other "super" bikes; certainly not at almost twice the price.

If I was rich, it'd make my starting rotation of bikes to test for myself, along with the P5, Speed Concept, IA etc. Because for one person it tested really fast. As you likley know as your from this area, many of my clients have plenty of dough, and got that way by being very smart with their money. For $11K, what are getting for your investment over a Speed Concept or Premier? That's like doubling the price of a bike to get it from 17lbs down to 15lbs. What's the gain? What's the ROI?

I predict in 5 years no one will be laughing at Cervelo for the P5x.
Cervelo will need to be around for 5 years for us to know. These days that's not a given! Phil White is gone.
