Canyon Help Needed in Lahti
We’ve just arrived for Lahti and my son’s 2018 Speeedmax CF SLX H33 base bar was damaged / broken coming from the US. His bike is not rideable because of this.

Can you suggest options to get a replacement or fix?

Does anyone know of a Canyon contact in Lahti who might be able to help? Thank you!

Here is the part that was damaged: https://www.canyon.com/...-drop-cf/106333.html

Hope things work out. I did wonder what bike case was used.

I promise this isn’t a loaded question. What kind of bike travel case?

So are people leaving these on the bike in the bags? I pull mine off and attach to the side of the bag with microfiber towels and velcro. Is it extremely time consuming to do this on some bikes? Or just an aversion to Allen keys?

Hope you find a fix.

If you have a hard bike case like the Premier Tactical or the BBA Triathlon cases which have wider front flares to accommodate base and aerobars… sure.

In any soft case? No fucking way would I risk that.

Are you on Instagram? Kat & Mark Mathews are in Lathi. They regularly read their insta messages and have good Canyon contacts. They might be able to put you in touch with someone. Otherwise try calling Canyon Finland, they might be able to help https://www.canyon.com/en-fi/contact/

Let's try to keep the conversation respectful and this forum a welcoming place. I'm sure there was a better way to ask your question without belittling.

Canyon literally says in their manual that the basebar handlebar, and stem of the Speedmax can only be assembled by Canyon because replacement requires a certain amount of specialised experience.
Therefore, with these bikes you really only have the option of bike cases that fit a fully assembled basebar.

This answer might come too late, but this place has bike service and they sell/cooperate with Canyon. Might be able to help: https://www.pelotonhelsinki.fi/pyora-huolto

They’re located in Helsinki though, ~100km from Lahti. Don’t think there’s any bike shop related with Canyon in Lahti, as Canyon is direct-to-consumer brand…

Canyon surely have someone there supporting their pros, no?

I’m confused. So if you have to do anything with the stem and basebar on a Speedmax it has to go back to canyon? This would seem like a really bad idea for a company that sells D2C

The manual for the new models literally does say that.

https://www.canyon.com/...yon_Speedmax_QSG.pdf

Page 34 of the manual.

I read the manual for the older model CF SLX and it doesn’t appear to have the same legalese.

That’s what they claim for certain speedmaxes. But some folks have worked on it themselves and it’s not any more tricky than a regular bike. though I’m not sure this post is about those ones as the product link op posted seems to be about one that I think has the interchangeable stem.

I've seen the "professionally installed" blurb on other products. It's not a Canyon or Speedmax thing, but CYA.

You can ignore it

That's clearly the disadvantage of having moved from a world where bike parts mostly adapt to a few standards to one where everything is proprietary and custom.

At the same time, what's "anything" in your question? These bikes are made to be highly customisable without touching the basebar.
And you wouldn't/couldn't buy these bicycles to swap out the frontend anyways.

To be honest, that's nearly the same with the other non DTC brands. You'd have to bring the bicycle to a mechanic who knows that model well.

The way I understand it the post was for the Speedmax CLF SLX 2018 (the last rim brakes model before the newer disc brake models where stem and base bar are one piece) which has two options of stem and a couple of options for the base bar. All are custom parts by Canyon so not truly interchangeable.

It may be simply CYA but if you touch it Canyon can nullify a warranty claim. And, as far as I know, there's no instruction manual for taking it apart and putting it back together.
