Bjorn photos - Moo '05

To begin, a couple of shots coming right off the helix out of T1. First thing I notice that separates him from the masses is that his helmet is on straight and his sunglasses aren't smudged. The shorts are low, but tastefully, there's no butt crack visible. The man is ready for some camera time.

Here he his 50 yards out of T2. Looking pretty good (as though he's composing his next forum post).

Here he is at mile 11. His accent is beginning to fail and his shorts are riding lower. Look at those quads. I'm cramping just thinking about it. This guy is tough.

And, just for giggles, here's Ute at mile 2.x. She had a pretty good race herself.

In contrast, here's one of my favorite racers ... Dave Harju. The left is of him at mile 15 last year. There was never any question that he'd win last year. This year (on the right), he's flying out of T2 in third and doesn't look the least bit happy about it. Like most folks, the zipper on his singlet just kept getting lower all day.

And, before too many more people chastise the Bjorn for his riding style, let's just remember that the lad finished a pretty grueling race just a few weeks ago back in the old country. Congrats to all of Sunday's finishers.

Too bad for Cathy.

--------------------------------

Bjorn seems to have a completely different physique than other triathletes.

His quads are wider (thicker) than his knees. =)

I wonder what the circumference of his ankles are ... he doesn't seem to be "light-boned" (<-- can't believe I just typed that)

He's actually pretty light. I bet he's lighter than you think. I'll let him reveal his weight if he wants, but he's not really "big." Certainly not "big boned." :)

Perhaps it is just this picture. It is hard to tell b/c there is nothing else in the picture for comparison. He just seems to have a different look than say Reid, DeBoom, etc. By different, I mean he looks more muscular. Honestly, guys like Reid look like they'd move backward a few feet when they sneeze ... but, again that is from looking at a few pictures. Be interesting to see a "tale of the tape" of the top guys. I might be surprised at the variety of physiques that are "really fast".

I fear that it won't be long before Bjorn goes with the Hunter Kemper wardrobe. =) Please no.

Give those shorts a tug toward your shoulders, Bjorn.

He's definitely more muscular than the lanky runner types. Also, he's a heel striker. And, while his run cadence is very good, his stride length (push off?) is shorter than guys like Harju. I'm not a coach or PT, but I wonder if he could benefit from some more flexibility in his hip flexors.

He put on a great show. And frankly, I'd kill for any of his splits.

I like how he taped "Specialized" on his shoes so they don't get free props.

Just out of curiousity... why doesn't he have a race number?

He has no body marking (does anybody at the end of the race? Do they body mark in Ironman?)

It looks like he is wearing a racebelt on the bike, but there is no number. On the run he is not even wearing a racebelt.

also, here is Bjorn:
