350 in on the Challenge ... how many will actually post here?

BTW: I can claim personal responsibility for TWO new STers who registered on Slowtwitch from another Forum just to play

Hi Dev,

Im actually Based in Xian but my job has me travelling al over china...ALL over china, Ive been to every province and over 70 cities in China in the past 1.5 year. At the End of February, I will move back to Jinan, which is about 1h45m from Beijing on the bullet train, very convenient. Plus, Jinan has an un-used 40k TT.

Definitely in, cool challenge! Just one question - how do you handle runs that span 2 days (as in 100 mile races)?

I took up running very late so never really appreciated it all. But I was actually in the Olympic stadium in Montreal when shorter won the silver in 76. I had completely forgotten about it. I had this weird recollection of it when I read your post and checked it out.

I cross reference it with another memorable moment, the night was Greg Joy, the canadian, taking Silver in the high jump. Dwight Stones, the american and the favorite, was booed after making anti French Canadian comments. I remember being in a stadium with 10s of thousands of people booing a high jumper as he started his run to the bar.

My father was an avid runner so we went to many events, but I never really appreciated it. Ever hear of Ed Whitlock ? He used to come over on Sundays to pick up my father. They ran together. Now the guy is a legend. I use to think he was just another skinny crazy guy like my father.

Kids!! When I was 16 my father asked me to follow him on my bike for a 100km self supported run. I was to give him food and water. Like many 16 year olds, I said "what kind of nut cake runs 100km ?". He did it himself.

Now I am on a website with the same kind of nut cakes.

Yes, I am very familiar with Ed Whitlock. His training methods are very interesting. He runs twenty miles one day then walks 2-3 hours on alternate days. It shows the basic principles of active recovery. So many athlete train in the grey areas without the Highs and lows of effort and recovery. This explains his amazing results. Great stuff

If your dad is around I think I need to interview him about his escapade. I doubt my 16 year old son would volunteer for the same (well, I can't see myself running a step beyond 42.2k unless it is an ultraman, but don't get Nick going on that topic....)....anyway, you butt must have been sore following your dad on a bike for something like 8-10 hours (I presume)!

(a) Dev's first name is Devashish, not Paul

(b) the "Points" thing is something that Dan Empfield wanted for the ST training log. You get to pick the "Intensity" of a workout, and the training log multiplies that by time plus some activity-related factor to generate points. Its all totally subjective because people's rating of their intensity is all over the place. I have my own scale for this which puts almost all of my workouts in the 4-6 range, others use the entire range for most of the their workouts. It isn't important for the 100/100 challenge, except to you if you care about your own personal scoring.

I went 2 for 2 and today will be rough with my schedule but I will run late if I have to. I realized I will be in Germany and Paris for part of this challenge so hopefully my Garmin picks up a signal and I can get some sort of run in. If not I will try to double up some days.

3 for 3 today with a 4:00AM interval session in a cold windy rain. Embracing the suck. Scheduled day off of running tomorrow, will be on the bike trainer.

Two sessions down. This is me lying to myself......I love to run, I love to run, I love to run, lol.

I'm missing a run because I started a day late. I'll make it up once I get a good base.

I love to run.....

I am in too. Three for three. I just have to keep reminding myself that I don't need to keep up with the speed and distance of some of the others in this Challenge. Having said that, I am inspired by some of the distances, times and locations of some of the runs already reported. This really does help me want to get out and put down that good base in preparation for next year.

3-for-3, including today's unheard of (for me) 6:30 a.m. run. Keeping it totally sane right now, just 4-5 mile runs. I love the timing of this. I came into the sport as a 'runner' and in my quest to become a better triathlete, I've swam and biked more in the last 5 years. Right now, the thought of really racing a running race just sounds like pain. This challenge will get be my way to get back into racing-fast hopefully!

Hmmmm... I never played with the intensity setting and did not know it upgraded the points. I wonder if I can get more points for the last four years. What do points win me again ? :0)

No, intensity factor has no impact on Slowman's aerobic points.....Slowman's point system is as follows

1 point = 1 mile biking = 100m swimming = 1/4 mile running

This is hard coded into the training log software, so if you multiply your run mileage by 4, you'll get your points.

In the context of this challenge it is a meaningless/redundant metric. In challenges where there is a mix of sports, it become a more useful metric to try to compare relative training loads.

No worries....bottom line you won't get any additional points for that 18,000 feet of climbing you do over the 140.6 miles in your upcoming tri this summer according to Dan's rules. You will qualify for hero status among those of us who revere course where aggregate vertical is measured in kilometer and not in meters and where the Florida low effort express train to T2 is a non existent commodity on the course.

Well done!!!

Are you doubling up, then taking a day off, to maintain 1:1, or have you just kept going w/o a day off?
