That is a great shot of the stadium entrance. This is one of the reason why I am a runner since 1969. True inspiration great for the 100/100 . Run This photo again near the 100 day mark. Espn just replayed the 72 marathon a few months ago and I did not remember that Shorter was born in Munich. They often say about the winner of the Olympic Marathon that their life will never again be the same once the emerge from that tunnel. How True. These are the treasures of our sport
Thanks again
http://futrmultisport.com/ I took up running very late so never really appreciated it all. But I was actually in the Olympic stadium in Montreal when shorter won the silver in 76. I had completely forgotten about it. I had this weird recollection of it when I read your post and checked it out.
I cross reference it with another memorable moment, the night was Greg Joy, the canadian, taking Silver in the high jump. Dwight Stones, the american and the favorite, was booed after making anti French Canadian comments. I remember being in a stadium with 10s of thousands of people booing a high jumper as he started his run to the bar.
My father was an avid runner so we went to many events, but I never really appreciated it. Ever hear of Ed Whitlock ? He used to come over on Sundays to pick up my father. They ran together. Now the guy is a legend. I use to think he was just another skinny crazy guy like my father.
Kids!! When I was 16 my father asked me to follow him on my bike for a 100km self supported run. I was to give him food and water. Like many 16 year olds, I said "what kind of nut cake runs 100km ?". He did it himself.
Now I am on a website with the same kind of nut cakes.
