Hey guys,

We're past day 50. I'd like to grab 3-4 stories as Herbert wants to feature some escapades from the challenge on the front page. If you are interested, send me an email (mine is on my profile), and send me 2-3 lines on each of the following:

  1. Tell us 3-4 key things about yourself (background in tri, goals, other responsiblities outside tri that makes training tough)
  2. Your starting point for fitness?
  3. Where are you are now?
  4. How hard was it to fit all the workouts in? Weather or scheduling related challenges?
  5. Obstacles you have overcome?
  6. How do you see the next 50 days playing out.
  7. If you can attach a photo from a run or of yourself in the challenge that would be even better.

I'm making no promises, but I hope to grab 3-4 profiles for this story. My preference will go to "non front of pack" folks, for whom this challenge might be changing how they approach training. The fast guys have things pretty well dialed in (or maybe they don't and if the challenge made any changes, I'll gladly make an exception).

took yesterday off to downhill ski with my family. It was awesome having the boys both actually able to "ski" with me. although it was 18 degrees out and my damn fingers hurt like hell! Even with gloves on. back to training today. I did intervals @ 5k pace and managed to hit 10k @ 42:00. All done on dreadmill of course. So no story here Dev except......... I am back in the pool too :0)

MAN oh MAN you can tired that doggy out. :) I have yet to do so with ours but the farthest he's gone was 6-7 km.

Can't believe I cracked the top 50 this morning. Just takes patience, I guess. Well, that and never running in anything lower than 20C. :)

easy day today 6.2 miles in 41:30. It actually felt easy keeping a 6:44 pace and throwing in some 6:15 pace intervals. but shins did hurt a bit after.
if number114 did not get on the dreadmill next to me I might have been able to keep it slower. I guess my wife is right I have to turn everything into a race :0) LOL.

"6.2 miles in 41:30." (Bmanners)

This would be my Zone 5+++++++ time. Nice job today on the dreadmill. I can relate to racing the other guy in the gym syndrome. It can be a motivator. ;)

now trying to get back on the 100/100 path. my brother from the UK is visiting and the last two weeks have been a complete workout bust. but i managed a runs (6.7 and 3.6miles) yesterday and hope to do the same for a couple of weeks. volume matters for my training plans, so this isn't ugly, but i wish i hadn't fallen so far off the wagon .... tomorrow, ms. dawhead and myself will do our first 2013 4 corners run, which is about 21 miles of technical single track with 5500' of climbing. unless we get too cold ;)

This is what it looked like today under my bike after my 45 minute CT ride.
10 min warm up, 2-30sec sprints with 90 sec rest in between then 5-4 min intervals at sprint pace with same rest intervals. The 10 minutes I averaged 120watts and around 13.5 mph it was a chore getting the average watts up to 199 watts after that. I have the bike set up under a heat vent recessed light and heater is right behind that wall. Can't make conditions any more like Eagleman. Just need to get a dreadmill down there now ;0)

Halfway there - 50 runs in, 50th in the rankings. I like that kind of symmetry. And for some reason I'm #1 in the 50-runs crowd, and I have no idea how that happened, since I don't think I run *that* hard or long. But apparently I do. Not biking or swimming helps I guess...

Anyway, I have to drop out for a couple of days unfortunately. Having surgery under general anaestetic tomorrow, but hope to be back at it Friday for an easy 30 minutes, and to be picking it up again Saturday. The surgery is fairly minor - one of the last ones (hopefully) resulting from my crash almost a year and a half ago. My eyelid needs to be lifted so that I can finally properly close my eye again, and they're removing a screw in/under my eyebrow that is bothering me. If this all goes well, the next (last?) procedure is a fix to my eyeball which will make the almost constant double vision I have go away. If that goes well I may even be able to ride on the road again!

In the meanwhile: Guys, do your worst with my ranking. I'll be more than happy to catch up again in the near future.

Jan, good luck with your surgery. Very impressed with everything you have done with your "new body". Keep it up...also, please send me some info per my request on the front page article. I think your story and participation in this challenge would be inspiring for many to read given where you were just a year ago.

thanks.....I am at 49 runs. I fell off your pace on Sunday as I speedskated 20k then followed it up with a 30K XC ski. The 30 K XC ski took me 30 minutes longer than planned and I only ended up with 10 minutes of transition running, then the rest of the day was spent on family engagements and flying to the west coast leaving no energy nor time to top off the final 20 minutes. I'm 3 runs off 100/100 pace now. We can encourage each other to get back on pace after your surgery. Today I spent 50 minute running 9K doing 600m loops around a parking lot in the dark in front of my hotel in Santa Clara. I did not feel like running on the treadmill and did not feel like dodging cars on roads. There is a canal nearby but did not want to run there in the dark. The 600m loop around the parking lot ended up serving as a large track. It's not the first time I have used a hotel complex parking lot at a track while on business travel when having to run in the dark before a work day. Still more entertaining than staring at the bottom of a pool, although I did tack on 15 minutes in the hotel pool that took all of 10 strokes per length.....better than zero swimming.

Did 5.50 in the morning and then 4.30 in the evening when kids were at CCD. second run was done outside and I concentrated on form and placing foot lighter when runnng. I had a hard time keeping it at 8 minute miles when going uphill and into the wind!! also had a 15 minute core session, 1/4 mile walk and 47 minute Computrainer ride.

Now you're talking! :)

More kudos to Dev for this challenge. I've been dealing with likely Norovirus and on and off gastro upset, cramping, etc. you name it. I found that as long as I get out first thing in the morning I can usually get just about 30 min in before I feel like death. Really hoping this is gone next week and I can get back on the bike. Ugh.

I am somehow only 3 off pace but that will fall apart next week. I am on dog duty which means mornings, lunch, and evenings are dog related. I guess 30min to myself at night is warranted though I may slow down so I don't have to loop around again adding extra miles in the neighborhood.
