I agree....show us a beach...enough snow and miserable weather around here.

OK, did some spreadsheet chasing this evening. Got on the treadmill for a 33 min hill run with Vibrams. Now I am 1 run behind 100/100 pace and 317K out of target of 320K to be on 1000 kilometer pace. Tomorrow is day 33, so 1/3 the way through.

and the Most Important fact - I am STILL (tenuously as Sally hasn't updated for a while, for one) in the top 100, scrambling to hold to number 96.

Landed a little bit wrong during my Sunday run and it has flared into a full-fledged sore hip flexor. Rested Monday and took a hot tub. Last night I got about 35 minutes into my scheduled 80 minute run and had to bail out. Going to try and get a massage today.

Injuries are very unusual and when I do get them they heal up quickly. Let's hope that holds true, I'm traveling to a half marathon on the 27th!

I've never been a steady runner until this challenge and just a third of the way through I'm really happy with the results I've been getting. I have been able to improve my form and have taken big chunks of time out of my average pace (used to run 5:00-5:20/km, now averaging 4:40/km). All it takes to hook me is a little online competition. I'm looking forward to the next 67 days.

31 runs in and I reached a bit of a breakthough. Was able to run at mid-season pace/HR combo last night. Averaging 8 min/miles and somewhere around 30 minutes per run. It's an intentional slow build-but it's working! Thanks Dev!

Should be up to date after tonights run. No way I would be this consistant without this challenge. The improvements I've been seeing over 5 weeks are great.

Was not going to double up but it was 40 degrees out with a slight rainy mist, Perfect for running so dropped the boys at CCD parked the car in front of the Jesus statue and ran 4.35 miles at a easy 7:24 mile pace. It felt really good and kind of easy.

your base pace seems pretty quick considering that faster than 5k pace is just 6:15. just 1min/mi slower is base pace? do you go by feel or do you have any reference for you paces?

i am trying to break 20 minutes for the 5k so my 5k pace is around 6:25. it is (was) on the dreadmill so my base pace is a little faster then it would be outside and 10 seconds a mile is fast for me. meaning the difference between 6:15 and 6:25.:0( I do have a coach that set my workouts for me. It is geared towards breaking the 20 minute mark. i have a habit of going out to strong and losing lots of ground after the first mile. hopefullly the quicker base pace during my intervals makes me stronger and faster overall. think my fastest 5k is 20:06. the base pace was set by me.

BBQ run this morning - low and slow - need to get some doubles in so I can get ahead of the game so I can relax in Miami at the end of the month. 50% of my initial 70 run goal but still on track for the full 100, we'll see how that works out!

thanks for the clarification. dont you think it would be better to recover between intervals rather than keeping a strong pace? what does your coach say about base pace?

i know its tempting to always go kinda fast, especially if you are running in places where a lot of other runners are.

if you put your numbers in the jack daniels formula it gives a base pace of around 8:20.

I was coming back from injury but I tried the slower pace last year. With almost results but did not get what I was hoping . So am hoping the stronger (faster) base gets me the few needed seconds per mile.

good luck.

i once did kinda same as you and it worked. ditched the hrm and went only by pace and feel. this automatically increased my base pace, and after some weeks i was comfortable with the new base pace, and consequently my times in races dropped massively. well, i increased frequency of my runs as well.

I've just be loving this year's 100/100 Challenge. I was on fire early and up 3 runs when my brother came in for the holidays a gave me a cold that knocked me back to even after three days off. I'm back up two runs now and feeling good.

Last week it was cold in Los Angeles. Well, cold for Southern California standards: 50degrees during the day with wind. That's very chilly for this area. The wind makes for clearer air than normal and I wanted to submit some pics from a typical trail run above my neighborhood.

Looking east you can see the tall buildings of Century City (just above ridge) and in background - downtown Los Angeles.[/img]

Looking waaay east now, you can just make out snow on the mountain tops[/img]

On the way back down - headed south now, the Santa Monica Bay with Palos Verdes (the big mound) in the distance.[/img]

And I even saw deer on this run[/img]

Well now I know what you guys have been dealing with. We got hit with a norte yesterday afternoon and while I got yesterday's run in as it hit (so still warm enough) today I was forced to ride in 23 degree weather. JeeZE! My hands are still frozen. I need to go out for a run now but the mercury has dropped to 22C and I'm not sure I'm woman enough. Also didn't even bother with a shower after the ride and I've NEVER done that before. What's the use of a shower if you're not dripping sweat?
