I've actually been injured the last ten days or so.The physio figures I have torn a rhomboid and it has slowed all my training considerably.Stuck to sitting up on the trainer and can only run for short periods before pain returns.Strangely enough I can swim without much worry.Totally has but a dent in my run challenge but I guess I have to be smart and give it a chance to heal enough before next week...

yeah it's this thing ... the olympic stadium in Montreal .... really nice "building" that provides light for cross-country skiing and running at night ... it also houses two nice 50meter swimming pools, the building on the left used to be a velodrome, now there are poor pumas turning in circles there (and beavers and ...) ... I should go free them and rebuild the track ;-)

I think I know that park ... didn't they set up a F1 course in there once, about 10 years ago?

Thank you for posting pictures of that stadium. Many great memories from high school going to watch the Expos, the Alouettes and the Montreal Manic from the NASL days. $1 got you seats in the bleachers for the Expos. Sadly, I missed the Police Synchronicity World Tour stop in Montreal as I was in recruit camp in the Armed Forces in the Summer of 83....hold that thought, the Police concert was at the Spectrum, not Olympic Stadium, but either way, your image brought back great memories.....to be 18 again with the world in front (my son is nearly there!!!):

Off to run with Sting playing in the background! In my first marathon at age 19, I bonked badly at 32k right around that stadium....the longest run of my life was 15K before the marathon! It's amazing that I made it to 32. I actually came through 30K even splitting 3x10K @ 45 minutes and then spectacularly blew up....walked from 32-37k ate a bag of chips and got a bottle of coke from a spectator and then ran the last 5K in 21 minutes as there was a silver medal for sub 3:40....ended up at 3:41...that last 200 meters really demoralized me (37 to finish line is 5.2K, not 5K). Still not sure how I pulled that one out. I actually have the finisher picture at home somewhere. That was Sep 84. In fairness, I had spent the entire summer bike touring in Europe, riding 3-6 hours per day, so I was fit, just not running fit!

Had a good run this morning and I will double up tonight. This morning's run was my first early morning in a while. It was slightly rainy yet peaceful on my normal route which is usually filled with the hustle and bustle of the evening traffic and other runners. The dark sky with the glow of streetlights was something I missed. Put in 4.06 miles and will put in another 4-5 miles after work.

Time to distance myself from Dev a bit: did my first double today. An easy 30' with a build at the end, and a hard 50' this PM, with 3 intervals of 5-6-7 minutes of 5km pace in the middle. Starting to appreciate the treadmill - this type of precise workouts is just impossible outdoors, since you'll never get the pace right.

Also found a funny quirk of my treadmill: I stuffed two computer speakers in the little waterbottle pockets. The only way they'll stay there is if I point them downward. It seems that the HR sensor now picks up the beat of the music, so I know exactly the BPMs of the songs. I could possibly correlate that with cadence, I guess...

I'm still running! I keep forgetting to track though so I'll get caught up.

We've had pouring rain and upper 30s this week so I've been on the treadmill which sucks. But it is either that or hypothermia. It is almost impossible to stay warm in that kind of weather. Cold is OK, rain is OK but almost freezing rain, not so much. My legs get so cold they don't want to work anymore.

I keep myself occupied on the dreadmill I found Freaks and Geeks on Netflix. How did I miss this show?? Hilarious. I find myself laughing out loud, at Gold's Gym, and sometimes have to jump off the belt so I don't fall. Yup, I'm the sweaty weirdo no one wants to be next to and I'm OK with that. I do avoid garlic for lunch, perfume and grunting though. I have SOME standards.

Here is where I run on the weekends. This was from Sunday. Dreary weather. Started raining 1/2 thru the 100 minute run.

no F1 course race in Parc Maisonneuve :-) ... it once was a golf course, a long time ago ... last Fall they were shooting the movie White House Down there, that's the closest to F1 I can think of ... next to it are the botanical gardens ... there's an outdoor 400m track one km away ... it's a good place for running, but not as pretty as the Mont Royal in the middle of the city

finally got out to do some more serious trail mileage today - about 12.5 miles, the southern end of the Four Corners in the wissahickon valley phila. i got up to this mileage level back in sept before suffering from a wierd new ankle injury. it was about 46F and sunny today, and ms. dawhead and i had a lovely run in the (bare, brown) woods at lunchtime. 2 more runs there to get up to the full disance (21 miles or so). very inspiring. and our time wasn't too bad, either.

Back on the training track after 8 days off for the Christmas boom. I actually lost 8 pounds during that stretch. I guess 16-18 hours a day on your feet in a hot kitchen for ten straight days will do that to you.

I am trying to race at 155-158 this year, which is about what I weighed when I was 16, about 30 years ago. I have never raced below 168, so we will see if this works. I sure look better with my shirt off ( I know you care Bmanners ;))

OK, I know this has been answered a million times, but I'm ignorant and confused.
if I run say 1 hour plus 20 minutes in a day, can I count it as two runs, logging 50 and 30?
What if I run the same spread across two days? I'm trying to increase frequency, but I don't totally understand the rules.
Thanks and sorry sorry sorry.

Great pics. If I had those trails, I'd have no excuses for not running.

Do you ever jump in the water after a hot day run?

No, unfortunately it's difficult to navigate along those rocks and you have to go out a few feet to get to some deeper water. I do bike to the other island across the way and do all my open water swimming at the beach though.

Rules are on page 1 of this thread:

WHAT COUNTS AS A DOUBLE RUN?

For a run to count as a double, it must be separated by at least 1 hour. I have to pick a duration to separate 2 runs and it can't be 1 minute or 5 minutes, and putting 1 hour in between means that I will allow you to count a run-swim-run, run-bike-run, run-wts-run, run-XC ski-run, run-McDonalds-run as 2 sessions as long as the thing in between lasts for at least 1 hour (be it 40K on the bike, or a session at the donut shop).

Sorry, you are out of luck. Your example gives you 1 run but you can count it as a single 70 minute run. For a run to "count" it has to be 30 minutes or more.

Sorry for the late response.

Basically you can add as many short runs as you want in a day to get your "first" 30 min run.

Let's use an extreme example.

I'm busy at work, and can't make time during the day and it is going to be busy at home.

So rather than walk 2 minutes to the coffee machine, I step out the back door and jog 6 minutes, enter the front door, and go to the cafeteria and get my coffee. It is a tiring day, so I need a lot of caffeine, and I do this 5 times.....now I have a total of 30 minutes of running and meet today's quota.

I get home and am busy with family. Now 10:30 pm rolls around and I'm wired from all the caffeine, so I decided to run 15 minutes easy just to loosen up. Then I come inside the house and sit on the trainer for 54 minutes, and decide I want to run some more, and go out for 15 more minutes of running. With transitions I finish the workout at 11:59 pm.

OK, so now I have 5x6 minutes from the work day, and 2x15 min in the evening. The first 5x6 minutes count for my 1 run quota for the day. If I was smart and ran 30 minutes straight on the second round, I could count this as 2 runs, but since these were two runs of 15 minutes they just add to the total running for the day....so 5x6 min, plus 2x15 minutes ends up being entered as a single 60 minute run.

By the way, I picked the 10:30 pm start time and ended at 11:59 pm because otherwise you spill over into the next day and those minutes would need to be allocated to running for the next day.

I have had several days in the challenge where I either started my day with a 15 min treadmill jog, or ended the day that way, with a 45-60 min run at lunch. The total just gets entered as a single eligible run even though I did it in two sessions. We still get credit for the mileage and time, and realistically that is all that really matters.

Well this is my first time posting in this thread... But been consistently running for the past 3months....
Did my first 2 mile race today since 2004. I don't know how it is possible... But I ran 9:27 which was a 14s PB! I ran 9:41 in 2004 when I was 23 years old! Very happy with how I am aging! Hahaha
