Chris...thanks for capturing some of the sights from our great city.....regardless of season, it really is a great place for runners (or athletes for all sports for that matter). I hope you can join us for hill repeats on Parliament hill this weekend. Only in Canada, can you run intervals by the seat of government with a balaclava on and have the police wave at you. We really should bring these guys donuts one of these weekends!

You forgot to mention the year when you did a 100K speedskate on the canal, then did the Gatineau Loppet 50K XC ski race and then ran a 3 hour marathon at the local Winterman marathon. Any plans along those lines for 2013?

Mine has been doing the same thing. Really annoying.

You can upload the .tcx files instead. They are in ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices/<device id>/history/

6.2 on the dreadmill with 1 minute intervals at 5k pace and two minute rest. Did a bunch of them after a mile warm up. They were done at a sub 20 5k pace. Speaking of which I hqve not broken yet!!! :0( hopefully this March.

you should see him wet. Even more like a rat. The girls recently cut most all his hair off - nice for the heat but yeah, not much difference between him and a rat. :)

Hey, thanks Dev. I was inspired to post the photos by the ones you had posted from your run. Yes, Ottawa is a great city in which to be a runner or triathlete.

I am registered for the 50 km Gatineau Loppet on Saturday this year, but I don't think I will do a 100 skate the previous day or run a marathon the following day; that was a once in a lifetime piece of stupidity!

Chris, the fine line between stupidity and heroics is what has served to inspire enough of us to push our limits. Now we have 496 people participating in 100/100...in 2006/7 there were 3! As much as the Sahara runners get crap around here in the winter of 2007 when Ray was running 40-50K per day across the Sahara, I figured if he could do that many kilometers, I could scale it down and try to do 40-50 minutes per day.

I am loving all the pix, keep them coming. One of these days when get out when it is light, I will add a few of my own.

Recovery run fail for me this morning. Twisted my ankle on a piece of ice about half way through my run. I was able to finish, but my ankle is not in a happy place right now. Time to scoop some snow off the deck for to make an ice bath.

100/100 Challenge Tip Of the Week
One of the most important parts of training for peak performance is traning specificity. There is no true all around fitness. You may be fit on the flats of Florida but you get to Boston and the demands of the course dramatically changes.
You want to gradually work your way toward running races specific paces on terrain similar to your peak race.

For Boston for example you may want to do a 8-10 mile marathon paced run with a bit of downhill in the beginning and make a transfer to uphill running at pace during the later stages the pace run. this will prepare your body for the challenges that will lie ahead on race day.

As this challenge goes forward i will go more into detail about threshold and pace training but start now reviewing a few course profiles and try to set your specific runs up accordingly.

OMG. that is Amazing. I'm not sure I've ever seen residential lights here. Electricity is just too expensive to waste on lights... :)

I've seen this thread on the homepage for several weeks now and just wanted to wish everyone involved good luck. I did something similar this fall by running everyday for 83 days in a row leading up to the Philadelphia Marathon. With my main goals being to up my mileage, become more efficient and have more muscular endurance to avoid fading in the closing miles as I had in previous years.
My minimum run was 20 minutes but I did end up having several 70+ mile weeks. I did virtually no speedwork, but I live in a relatively hilly area so I just charged up hills occasionally to work that in. Mostly I just went out and ran and enjoyed it. I only wore my wristwatch so I didn't lose track of time. The end result is that it damn well worked. I shaved almost 7 minutes off my time from a year before and broke 3 hrs for the first time. Just wanted to share my story so that on those days you want to give up the challenge and there were plenty that I wanted to give up my own, know that it will pay off.

Good luck!

I ran past his house last weekend around 4PM to see if he kept them on all day long; the answer was "No"

My second question was "How does he turn them all on?"

It looked to me that he had everything wired into the exterior outlets on the porch and sides of the house, which all probably all on the same circuit = he just hits the breaker when it's "showtime"

Still, that's gonna run his bill up a few bucks for a couple of weeks in December and January

It's a wooden walkway leading to this platform overlooking a protected wetland. Here's pic of Bumpass and his girlfriend Riley on the platform:

This morning Bumpass and I ran for 30 minutes around the lake. Here's a picture of Bumpass after our run:

Great pictures all, I guess my running in clear sunny 24* weather gonna get no sympathy from this group!

I am 21/21 with 2 off days followed by doubles; my off days were dictated by circumstance not feel. This is the most persistent I've run, how do you know when to do a recovery run or take the day off? I don't want to get injured and I'm feeling good.

Keep up the good work all!!!

Funny that you should say that ...

New Year's Eve, while the fireworks were going off, there were some odd squawkings coming from the Woods behind our Pond. I told D'Kid that the explosions must have woken up a flock of wild turkeys that live back there

"Or, it could be the Jersey Devil; you never know"

But nah, that house is in the middle of the development, so all his neighbors can bask in its warm Yuletide glow without disturbing our indigenous cryptozoology

I was so inspired by your photos that even though my route is uber boring, I tried to find stuff tonight...

we start shortly before here

the last 2 nights I've had a kid with me - they find it much easier to walk the dog when I'm along for the ride. :)

my 2nd born

got the sun behind us - dog always runs better out of the heat of the day.

coming back from the point (dog and boy only went 1/2 way - 2nd trip today for dog)

back of the dive shop

the pool and restaurant (they're slammed as we're at the end of the 3rd week of Xmas break and everyone is out this last weekend)

back of the hotel (they're full up)

and almost home...

Nice job on the challenge TriBeer.

I generally resemble Bumpass's position around mile 140.601 of an Ironman....in fact, around mile 130.6 I kind of want to get into that position and it takes all my mental fortitude to keep shuffling for another 10 miles of torture before treating myself to lying down on the ground after the finish line!

There is nothing about this route that I find boring....now my treadmill route is pretty boring so you won't see any photos of that! Thanks for posting the photos. Please keep them coming everyone. Nice to see the variety that everyone is running in!
