think again. sorry about the spelling but I am not overly concerned about it on this forum and I seldom look over what I wrote as people get the point. I have never been to Nigeria and have no need for Viagra. why the comment on the post tho? Its a serious question that was directed to...oh it wasn't you was it?

ps- it must make you feel better about yourself to bring others faults to the attention of the forum. do you kick kids and puppies too? I'll bet you berate your family if you have one) so you can feel better about your own life huh? what a dick.

I gotta ask because I am a fan....

Are you going to battle it out on the lava fields again? Many on here believe you are the best triathlete of all time and believed it was only as matter of time before you conquered in Kona. If your answer is "top secret" and you cannot respond, I understand.

Profile strike adapted with the old carbon x straight bar. I have kept them short as my saddle is further back on my road bike.

I would like to but this year was just not possible. So I decided to focus my attention on the 70.3 Champs.

Cool. Thanks. I'd like to do something like that, but I may end up going with Jammers anyway... I need to keep my wrists (esp. the right one) in a natural position, as I have trouble with numbness...

can you tell us what makes it better in your view ?

and here you go:

Mr. Lessing, I am hoping that this is your garage given the nastiness of everything around the bike. But you never know, this is ST and some of these dudes actually live in places that look like that. But it is OK with them because they got themselves a P3C

That's my daughters bed room. I told her to sleep on the floor to make her tough (like me when I was growing up in Africa). I can't afford a carpet because I am a professional triathlete.......... The blood mark in the right hand corner of the pic is where we squashed a mouse the other day.

This is the second quote from you that I will have to carefully translate to my 13 year old triathlete kid :)

Best wishes,

Sergio

Simon, I'm one of the guys who think you one of the best triathlete's ever. I lived in Europe in the 90's when you were competiting there. I still remember your amazing Nice race and the 31 minute 10K in the Luxembourg Oly (what was your fastest 10K?).

A few quick questions for you which are totally unrelated to your bike (which I think looks awesome) - what is the difference between being a pro in the US and Europe? Are prize purses and sponsorships easier or harder to get in the US? I know many of the pro's in Europe were in the military and had a hard time making enough as a pro. In fact, do you still compete in Europe?

I am not sure what my fastest was as we all know that triathlon distances where questionable. For example I ran 27 min for 10K in the 96 World champs....... sure, I always new I was good.

In the 90's the place to be if you were a pro was in Europe. France alone had over 10000 races a year. Not to mention Germany,Spain, Italy etc.

It was always easy to find a good money race, race directors encouraged foreigners to their races and paid good start money to most of the top Pro's
I think Triathlon had a great kick back from the more structured sports like cycling. Sponsors paid good money for both athlete and event sponsorship. People always asked me why I did not race more in the US, but the US could not match the European triathlon infrastructure.
"
Then what happened...... one word "Olympics"
In my view the Olympics took away the freedom of many athlete - event and corporation sponsorships as suddenly we all had to adhere to as set of rules set out by the ITU.

Basically the rules were conform or get out..... so a lot sponsors walked away, events dried up and athletes became dependent on federation funding with the federations dictating what events the athletes should do.

What is great about here in the US is that the pro athletes have quite a few other options. IM - half IM and all those classic races chicago etc are huge draw card races opening up a much bigger market commercially to anything other than ITU.

If you are a good pro and prepared to race 70.3, IM's and non drafting races, individual sponsorship is out there. It may be not as good as the 90's in Europe but you can still get the support and the diversity of sponsorship. (Tri Dubai and American Interbanc are great examples)

What is interesting is that in the 90's everyone raced in Europe, including all the top US athletes. Now as every year goes by here in the US all those "Foreigners" are ending up at races here in the USA.

I would say we have come full circle.

I will agree with you that the triathlon infrastructure in Europe in the 90's was far ahead of the US. I think in some respects (not the money) it still competes with the US since a lot of it run and sponsored by clubs and the local federations. Too bad the ITU changed everything.

Good luck with your next season. Hoping to see you podium in a few 70.3 races. BTW, I thought you had Accenture in the bag this year until the end.

Simon, this is an unexpected opportunity to ask you something very important to me.

Before every single important triathlon race, I tell my kid to be careful about what his body is telling him. I remember him that he should be prepared to quit before hurting himself bad. He does not speaks English but always asks me to translate some of the articles in triathlete magazines. I think he experienced a paradigm shift when he found out in an article that even you had to decide between risking your life and finishing a race.

Is your main worry when taking that decision the particular condition of your (athletes?) heart?

Best regards,

Sergio

Simon I wanted to thank you for giving me one of my best Tri stories...ever.

You rode up next to me at IMLP the year you beat Luke about 2 days before the race. We had the chance to have a nice chat and you could not have been more pleasant. After a few min I assumed that you would continue on past me but you said that we could ride together for a while....

Well, this was kinda good and bad for me.

It was good because I did enjoy crusing along with a world champion, and did enjoy the conversation but...

I was horribly out of shape, and while you were soft peddling my HR was around 175 and the lactic was somewhere around the back of my throat! I was truely hoping that you did not look at my HRM becasue it was beating so far you would have called the life squad.

At one point some guy came cruzing past us, head down going like hell. You looked over at me and kinda laughed that he was a typical AG'er leaving it all on the course, going WAY too hard the days before the race. I had to laugh because if you only knew how much I was leaving behind. :)

Anyway, after about an hour of my doing my best World Series of Poker face, trying not to let you know that I was in complete and total agony, the great bike gods smiled down on me and I had a flat! I have NEVER been so glad to have a $110 Conti Sew up go down. It could have been a $1,000 hand made silk and I would have looked for a broken bottle about that time.

After we stopped, you being the gentleman that you are, offered to wait with me and help me out. As much as I appreciated the offer I was SO happy to be on the side of the road with a flat. The thought of trying to keep up with you up Papa Bear and Mama Bear was just frightening and honestly made me a little ill. I almost threw you back on your bike and gave you a push just to get you going.

Anyway, I spent almost 60 minutes fixing that flat on the side of the road. 60 very happy minutes I might add knowing I dodged a British bullet.

You da man...

You make your daughter sleep on the hard floor in a rats den?? Does she get a little bit of heat in winter? A pillow or a blanket?? And I thought I might be over-doing the tough love by sending my 10-year old out on a 10-miler in the hills every morning before school. Your poor wife must cry herself to sleep every night.......

Cheers, Scott
