Because, presumably, grown adults aren't required to cater to the lowest common denominator. Because, it's respect for the office that should prompt people to make a better choice next time (if they think Pres Trump is a poor choice), or to hold the President to a standard when he speaks or makes policy. Because, Pres Trump will not be in office forever, and it's better to maintain a sense of respect for the fundamental structures of our nation, and to teach that to our children. We may disagree on things but THIS is the way that it needs to be looked at.
I sense we need better course in basic civics in our schools for young people. About the way government works, and what get's done. There is so much of - all politicians are liars and bums these days - yet, each elected offcial, plays a direct and indirect role in our lives. It's remarkable to me the disconnect.
Some good friends of mine have gone on to elected political life/work in Canada. Despite what the general public may think, it's an almost 24/7 job, that is totally precarious. You are potentially completely out of work at every election. Few average-joes would ever sign up for something like that - trading in their straight-forward 9/5 jobs. In fact, two of the guys that I know who have gone into politics took a PAY-CUT to be an elected offcial!
Agreed - Trump was democratically and fairly elected ( we hope), and what's done is done. He's making his own bed now, and the mid-terms in 2018 and the full federal election in 2020, will be the next time, that the general public and individual citizens, will officially be able to voice their opinion in the most powerful way they can - by voting!
