Broken seatstay, can I use it on the trainer
Quote | Reply
I have a TM01 with a minor crack (1cm) on the seat stay. The seat stay is about 4-5cm in circumference

Any thoughts about using it on a trainer and trainer only?

Is seat stay part of key structural support?

It really depends on the bike. Some chain stays are so massive that the seat stays aren't a necessity. However, I'm eyeballing my road bike and think that it'll fail if I damage the seat stays. Are you adverse to just having it fixed?

If just using it on a trainer, what's the worst that can happen?

I've broken a bike while on a trainer. Not nearly as painful as crashing on the road, but still not pleasant.

If it's destined for the trainer only - put a splint on it ? :-)

Calfee will cost you around $700 after shipping, assuming that's the only crack. They do a great job. They will email you a form to fill out, then ask you send them the frame. They are considered the BEST in carbon repair, certainly not the cheapest.
