My first post on here was a question asking what was the best way to "add distance to your swim? Intervals w/ decreasing rest? Adding a certain distance to each workout? other?
I had never swam (or is it swum) more than 150m continuous before.
Update ...
Last week, I got to the pool late and had 20 minutes to swim. So, I decided to swim 500m continuous. I did it, but I mixed in a 50m backstroke halfway through. The very next day, I was feeling tired (lack of sleep) during swim drills, so I "punished myself" by swimming 500m continuous again, only this time I did it all freestyle. The problem is I'm losing count of my "laps". In counting strokes per breath, strokes per 50m, and laps adding up to 500m, something got lost, and I think I swam 550m.
I know some pools have "beads" attached to the wall that you can (underwater) slide from left to right ... mine doesn't. What are some ways that you can keep track?
I ask because it won't be long until I surpass 1000m (end of this month maybe?), and I want to focus on swimming and not "lap13, lap 13, lap 13, lap 13, lap 13", y'know? I want to focus on "silent swimming", rather than "swim accounting".
Turns out the "just swim your distance no matter what" works pretty well. If it weren't winter, I would have tried the "have your buddy drop you off a mile from shore. Swim to shore." deal.
Once the mental limitations are broen, and the mind gets the hell out of the way, the body can get on with it.
