Similar, yes.

I puked in the shower today. Thats a first for me.

Have you had to sit on the tub so you could puke in the toilet and shit in the tub?

We left a very big tip at that hotel.

Why wouldn't you just do both in the tub? Seems like an awful lot of work to ass in the tub and bend over to the can.

We used to have guys in college that would be too drunk to stand to pee, so they would sit down. Then yack onto the floor. (One even broke the ceramic bowl). Then, sadly enough, passout by falling forward into said yack. Since it happened more than once, we had a name for the behavior, "Pulling an Elvis". The worse part about it was that the first person do discover the most recent Elvis was responsible for cleanup, including re-pantsing the King. The King had to pay some sort of restitution, typically in the form of ethanol and encouraging the cycle to start over.

For some reason, with the name David, I thought you were male.

Geeze people. Sit on the toilet with garbage can between knees.

I thought everyone knew that.

Because I knew I was going to barf. I sat down waiting for it. I had no idea I was going to shit until the barfing started. Then neither would stop.

Undercooked clams are a great over the counter weight loss aid.

I'm personally on the band-wagon war against sugar. I think it's addictive and it's in just about everything that's prepared for you. So it may not be about self control just like meth addicts don't have a self control problem. They have an addiction. But meth can't be legally bought on literally every street corner. So you think. Drugs of all types are probably in more places than sugar these days.

Now that I could use. I don't generally eat because I'm hungary, in fact I typically don't get hungry and even if I get hungry it goes away pretty quickly. I eat when I'm tired, stressed, anxious, pissed, bored and those all over ride "I'm full". I also eat very fast.

Everything Matt said, except I've gotten the eat slowly part down. But stress and unhappiness with many things means eating crappy food (chips are my downfall). That, couple with sitting too much at work, working too much, little to no exercise and it's a downward spiral.

It would be nice to be as perfect as most of you with impeccable willpower.

Will power is nice, but for me the solution is to not bring anything into the house that I don't want to / shouldn't eat. I love chips, but if there are none in my house I can't eat them. Same with ice cream, cookies etc. If they are in my house though, I'd eat them.

I try to do just one big shopping trip a week. Usually on Saturday after my big ride AND after eating a nice lunch. That way I'm not roaming around the grocery store hungry and buying a bunch of crap I shouldn't be eating.

There are few things as dangerous as stopping off at the store on your way home from work when you are hungry.

From a weight control perspective I'm not a big fan of eating out. I always have the best of intentions. And then they bring out the bread. For my whole professional life I've always brought a lunch and eaten it at my desk. Initially for money concerns, but I actually prefer it and I save a shit ton of money and eat better by not eating out. Everything that I plan to eat at work comes to work with me that day. No vending machine or burrito truck, or mini mart stop. No choices, no will power necessary.

Basically my solution is to only be required to use my will power once a week or so as opposed to every single meal.

Granted it helps to be a little OCD and happy to eat the same thing pretty much every single day though.

Yeah, you can eat right every meal for two weeks, be diligent, count your calories, maintain a manageable deficit. Then you go out with your friends on Saturday night and eat/drink 8000 calories. Whoops! You're still fat.

I'm similar. My willpower to resist sweets and chips is pretty weak, so I try to just not purchase them. The problem is that my wife purchases both, although the fortunate side to having celiacs is that almost all of the sweets she buys are things I can't eat anyway and she irregularly purchases chips. Without discipline and work, I'd be heavy again and have, fortunately, been able to avoid becoming heavy again by keeping a focus on it. When life isn't overly stressful, it's not difficult for me at all; when it is stressful it's easier to let my guard down when shopping and pick up extra stuff that's not on my list.

One thing that helps is making my entire work week's worth of lunches on Sunday afternoon, and if I don't have time to make enough for the week I go and buy two dinners at a local restaurant and split it into 4 meals for lunches or make something quick and easy like a frittata. My nightly ritual is to get my lunch, breakfast, and all snacks ready to go, down to loading the espresso machine so I'm not tempted to stop by a coffee shop and end up consuming junk I didn't plan on. I still pick up take out for dinner too often, but almost always eat only half of it.

It's not easy all the time, but I feel a heck of a lot better as I'm disciplined. Sometimes people just don't have the willpower to try to set their habits right, which is unfortunate. Knowing how difficult it can be to stick with it, I completely empathize with those who struggle and end up using food as a drug or coping tool.

Kevin - you live in California so I'll say nicely - STFU. [pink, almost]

I get what you are saying. But when you are so unhappy and overworked and it's a freaking Arctic zone, then everything feels pointless. And the grocery store is two blocks away (on the way home).

I know - I either need to decide to be happy here or get the hell out. If a large chunk of cash fell into my lap, that would make my decision easier.

But hey - I saw Harry Connick Jr. tonight and that made me happy. As did the fact the theatre sold wine "doubles"!

I guess this show how much people differ.

If I stopped eating when I was full I would probably be morbidly obese, or close to it. I am almost always hungry. Just yesterday despite having a rather large lunch, a few hours later I was so hungry I was on the point of drooling. I broke down and got a small bag of baked chips.

I've gained weight in the off season as is usual, I am up to 175 lbs at 5' 7". I usually race at 155-160 so I have a bit of work to do. I know I should race at much less than that, but I am not sure it would help me achieve any of my race goals anyway.

Thoughts? Do people seriously have so little self control that they need a remote control implanted in them to tell them not to eat? Also, since many people overeat due to emotional reasons will they eventually link this to the brain to remove a dopamine response to food?

The answer to the self-control question is clearly yes. I think drugs that affect appetite are probably going to be the solution to the obesity epidemic since that's far more practical and easier than changing our modern environment that has led to the obesity epidemic.

Yeah, kind of hard to believe they can't develop a drug to reduce appetite. Well, they did have one, Meridia, but it got pulled, I think due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke..
