I just chase watts. Start, warmup 10-20 min with a few pickups and then chase the computrainer metal man, or ride in erg mode. Usually done in an hour so no need for any distractions.
Just about the same. I train inside during the weekdays year round and since about August have gone to more of a polarized type of schedule with higher intensity 4 x 8's or 10's and 2 x 20's in TrainerRoad workouts. After a warm up and spindown of the equipment these intervals go quick. More like ripping the Band-Aid off fast rather than slow :-) I use a trance station on Pandora with many of the songs having a similar beat to my typical cadence. The focus is to hit the interval training target typically top of FTP or a touch higher. The warm up and cool down seems to be the longest part. The discomfort in those intervals is enough that I cannot focus on anything else. Even the music becomes a blur.
Just a training preference these days.
