I am currently in two challenges-- the 100 runs/100days challenge and the "Big Kahuna". I have realized that this is not a good thing for me. For whatever reason, I end up not looking forward to a workout when it is compulsory in some way. Silly brain.
I agree. I'm actually in the same two challenges, and I find myself very competitive (go figure, a triathlete who's competitive). But it makes me want to do things w/ training that are not beneficial. Like go for two shorter runs to increase number of runs, when one longer run is better for my marathon training. Or biking when my legs are already hurting, etc. just to get more points.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is thinking the challenges may not be completely beneficial.
EXACTLY!!!! I could have written those exact words. The two shorter runs thing was killing me. I was finding myself not wanting to go for one, because I knew I needed to do two short ones, and the benefit I get from running (the therapy part) really only kicks in for me at 8 miles or so; some days I can do it in 6, but then I have to run it really hard, and I just can't do that every day, and certainly not that hard twice a day, even at just 4 miles a pop. I'm bagging the challenges. You have no idea how much better it makes me feel to hear that you've had the same feelings. Thank you.
