I'm signed up for the Beach to Battleship IM distance tri in November. Recently I tore the medial meniscus in my left knee. I have a great orthopedic surgeon who "repaired" a tear in my right knee a few years ago, and that has been wonderful. I see him on monday, and plan to ask him about using a knee brace from now until after the triathlon, when I'll have the surgery on the left knee performed. The knee only hurts (and then it hurts like hell) if I run too hard, so I think I'll be able to make it to November by running very slowly. The P.A. for the surgeon said that knee braces don't specifically help for a meniscus tear, because the problem (at least for me) arises from pounding.
Can anyone recommend a knee brace that might help provide some stability to my knee? I'm looking for something off the shelf that is comfortable, and won't hinder my jogging too much. I'm a back of the packer clydesdale, and I've decided that if the jogging becomes too painful, I'll simply get the surgery ASAP and live to fight another day. Thanks
