Today's most idiotic Trump moment

*sigh*

Quote:

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump accidentally referred to the US Virgin Islands' governor as their President during a speech Friday -- even though he is technically their President.
"I will tell you I left Texas and I left Florida and I left Louisiana and I went to Puerto Rico and I met with the President of the Virgin Islands," he told the audience of the Values Voter Summit in Washington.
"We are one nation and we all hurt together, we hope together and we heal together," he said, later adding, "The Virgin Islands and the President of the Virgin Islands, these are people that are incredible people, they suffered gravely and we're be there, we're going to be there, we have really, it is not even a question of a choice."

Trump appeared to be referring to Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp, instead of the "President" who is Trump himself. The Virgin Islands is a US territory.
The White House did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment. But in the official White House transcript after the speech, his reference to Mapp as President was corrected to "governor."
He was referring to how the US Virgin Islands was hit first by Hurricane Irma, then Hurricane Maria, which ravaged the island.

Yup. It would be great if Trump's ignorance were limited to spelling difficulty.

We've heard this before. "but..but..but..it's all Obama's fault." In all fairness, Obama was quite articulate compared to Trump.

That's unfortunate, but sort of a "typo" in speech. There is no doubt that Obama knew we have 50 states. Trump's repeated references to the "president of the virgin islands" suggests that he really was not aware that person is him.

    The Constitution has your back.

    Quote:
he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices

This why we have The Cabinet. So the daily business of governing can be delegated, the President released to mostly act as a figurehead, giving speeches, fundraising directing the highest level of policy, and occasionally providing rapid response in a crisis when there's no time to gather opinions.

I'm sure it's really hard and stressful to be POTUS in general (or should be, if you have any respect for the gravity of the job). But I'm not terribly impressed by Trump's overall schedule.

Too bad this isn't a thread about what Trump said. Would love to hear several people explain "stand up" is a figure of speech and was simply asking the guy to be recognized. #fakenews strikes again.

Probably be a bunch of people coming in there and instead of saying yeah, that was pretty stupid, but someone actually said something even more stupid at some time in the past. Here, I'll even give you a specific example. But I am in no way, shape, or form attempting to defend the guy. I didn't even vote for him.

So Obama adds states to the Union and it's just a teleprompter error, but Trump calls the Governor President and Trump is a moron? Of the two mistakes Obama's is more egregious and the logic that Obama's is forgiveable and Trump's is worthy of damnation is logically indefensible.

Trump's error indicates he is unaware that the Virgin Islands are US territory. The error is not accidentally calling the governor by the wrong title. The error is a lack of knowledge over what territory constitutes the US. EVERYBODY knows the US has 50 states. Hence we can chalk Obama's error up to a mistake... and Trump's to incompetence.

It really doesn't demonstrate that the President is unaware that USVI is a territory. He said,

"We also stand with the millions of people who have suffered from the massive fires, which are right now raging in California, and the catastrophic hurricanes along the Gulf Coast, in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands. And I will tell you, I left Texas, and I left Florida, and I left Louisiana, and I went to Puerto Rico, and I met with the president [governor] of the Virgin Islands.
These are people that are incredible people. They've suffered gravely, and we'll be there. We're going to be there. We have, really -- it's not even a question of a choice. We don't even want a choice. We're going to be there as Americans, and we love those people and what they've gone through. And they're all healing, and their states and territories are healing, and they're healing rapidly. "

He mentions the territories specifically, and he included USVI in with his discussion of the States and PR, while making it clear that we're all Americans and neighbors. I think it's very likely that he just got the wrong word stuck in his head. If he had met with the Governor, his staff's prep would have included a quick briefing on USVI and the Governor himself, and he would have been introduced to the Governor with titles exchanged.

I wouldn't write this off as anything more than a brain fart.

There are plenty of real issues for disagreement with the President. I wouldn't waste time making more of little blunders like this than they really deserve.

As for Trump, I have nothing to base his intelligence off of either (Obama was an affirmative action admit and Trump was a future large donor admit). Actually you scumsucking asswipe, I've watched enough interviews with both Obama and Trump to get a pretty darn good idea about the relative intelligence of each. Obama wins hands down every time. On eloquence, knowledge, manners and intelligence. Plus I bet Melania would prefer to fuck him too.

Much like I base my judgement of you being a complete moron. You write stupid, specious arguments repeatedly with a surety only found in a complete fucktard, to use your term.

Wendy is just trying to be argumentative. He knows full well that comparing Obama and Trump's intelligence is ridiculous. Obama makes Trump look like a fifth grader. You can argue about the merits of either man's politics four hours, but arguing that Trump is even remotely as intelligent as Obama is a complete joke.. And Wendy knows that.

Actually fucktard I have little to no confidence in Obama's intelligence. What evidence do you have of said intelligence? People told you how smart he is? As for Trump, I have nothing to base his intelligence off of either (Obama was an affirmative action admit and Trump was a future large donor admit). Trump is better at speaking on his feet than Obama (see all the gaffes when off the teleprompter), but Obama has a more refined delivery. Please don't tell me you're basing everything off of how speeches are delivered, otherwise you'd vote for the guy reading the news on the radio for president (or in your case Prime Minister, if the Queen let's you have one).

I notice you ignore everything else I wrote, including the fact I make no assertions about Trump's intelligence. Good to know you would vote for the guy that reads the news. CC destroyed Wendy so badly on Cuba though, that Wendy didn't talk about Cuba for months, blaming it on unspecified "personal issues."

You can never take that away from CC. Somewhere on the top-10 list of LR implosions, along with the BK self-exile, the chainpin "Big Things," and the Forgie ban.

Edit: Or was that cerveloguy? Whatever, all those Canadians blur together in my mind.

I agree I was so disappointed with the Cuba thread that Windy started... But as far as this topic goes... of all the things to be upset at Trump about, I would think this would be about a 1 on the scale of 1-10 in dumb things he says. However, as pointed out, only the deranged on this forum are in a huge uproar over this. It's actually quite comical how nonsensical these people are...

You add up the success of everyone on this forum making claims about how dumb Trump is , and I bet it doesn't even reach 1/10 of what he's achieved. Its amazing how much space he occupies in the minds of people he's never even heard of.

I have asked this numerous times and each time am met with silence so I'll try again.

I've found that Trump has made a lot of promises (and threats) but has never actually followed through on any of those. He said he would repeal/replace Obamacare, tear up the Iran nuclear agreement, build the Wall, tear up NAFTA, bring back coal jobs, label China a currency manipulator, threaten any country doing trade with North Korea and repeatedly threatened North Korea with military action.

Given those promises and the fact that he hasn't passed a single piece of legislation, can you outline all the things Trump has accomplished?

He bought and sold real estate. That's his achievement. Oh yeah, and he did have a reality TV show. None of any of that qualified him for the job he now has.

But see, that is the thing. No one is in an uproar. It is funny. Bush's 'won't get fooled again' was funny. Biden can't talk off the cuff at all. Trumpkins complained about Obama being a teleprompter president but when Trump talks without a teleprompter he seems as surprised by what he says as we are.

Then Lil' Windy comes out and starts calling names as if he is the rational one and acting the tough guy.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

How many people can claim to have personally destroyed an airline and a professional football league, and also managed to lose money with a casino? That all takes real talent.

Whenever I visit the USA I make a point not to talk politics. In fact I normally don't any ways except on the LR. In mid September I was in midstate NY and met a nice older couple. They told me they were from York, Penn which they claim is solid Trump country. Apparently a lot of manufacturing has left the area but Harley-Davidson has a plant there. After a couple of drinks they started praising Trump. I asked them why they liked Trump so much and they responded "because he's going to re-open all the factories that closed and bring back the jobs". I then asked them how many jobs he had brought back so far and they said none but that was still all Obama's fault.
