Following Dan Emfield's article on Rob Urbach's departure from USA Triathlon, it got me thinking.
Both Skip Gilbert and Rob Urbach came from a non-triathlon background. Gilbert was an ex soccer player and had never even done a triathlon prior to being hired by USAT. Urbach came from a business background but was at least a triathlete.
So, I have two questions.

So, I have two questions.
- How important is it for the next executive director of USAT to have a strong background in triathlon?
- Should the federation be overseen by ex top tier triathletes such as Hunter Kemper, Paula Newby Fraser and Gwen Jorgenson (yes, I know she's not retired)? Or maybe even someone with a combination of many years of business experience and a history of triathlon competition such as Dan Emfield?
