I usually cannot get the spokeshave going that good. That is about perfection.

Elevated garden beds. Was trying to mitre the corners but decided to simplify things and just use plain old butt joints. Not as pretty but entirely functional.

I'm a big fan of Japanese design and craftsmanship; it's amazing what some can do with a hand plane...

That last plane has to be supremely sharp.

in Canada at least, "peeler" means "stripper".

i love a good quality stripper.

i know Conan/Arnold's answer to 'what is best in life?' and i'd not disagree with his response, but a good close second has to be a quality wood working hand tool set up and functioning properly.

I'm not into strippers at all. I'm actually disgusted by them.

Also, if you could point me in the direction of these magical adjustable tape measures, that'd be sweet, they sound fantastic!

Well as someone who does a ton of hand joinery, I doff my cap for doing joinery in the most difficult way possible.
But you do have a nice setup going there.

I have a #78, as "new" as it is, it's a family heirloom. Who needs a router for rabbets?

Very cool. You still have the fence and depth stop? Those are last from most originals.
I have some modem versions of that plane, but if I need a quick rabbet will use a two pass on a table saw (no dado stack)

Yes, all the pieces are still there. I am only the second family member to "own" the #78 plane. It was passed directly from my GF to me.

Very cool. Treat it well. If it has all the bits it is valuable, but I would rather see it used. If you think it needs a good home, message me.
I have a few tools from both my grandfather's I use regularly, and cherish them.

That's cool that you have granddad's #78!

I have one too, complete with nicker, depth gauge, and fence, but it was repainted somewhere along the line. Looks OK but it's not quite authentic. Keep your eyes open for an an old wooden skew rabbet - they're really nice to rough in rabbets fast, then use the 78 for cleanup.
