Shiv hydration and storage tips?
I have a Shiv Pro Race - totally stock. Raced today with the Fuelsalage... I've read all the comments on that, think that horse is beaten.

So, looking for the preferred bta system on the Shiv. Along the same lines, the Fuel Cell is an awesome idea, but just holds nothing. Unless I have some sort of abnormally enormous tube, there's no way I am fitting a tube, co2, etc. in that storage space. I like my Sitero Pro, currently have one cage, but will likely add another. So what's the solution for keeping that and just adding co2 and tube storage back there with some bottles?

Thanks!

I got the Wing which mounts between the bottle cage on the back and the seat. The wing comes with a item that can go in one of the sides that can hold two threaded co2 containers. https://www.specialized.com/...s/sitero-wing/105993 Inside my fuelcell i have an inflater valve head, tube, tire leaver, flat multi tool in the main compartment. I have lost a top rubber bit before but specialized sent me a new one after a few calls to rider care the new one fits much more snug than the one that came with the bike but I did put some double sided table in there to make sure it stayed put.

As for the hydration I still use the integrated system. I have used a big bite valve and have not had issues with it. I regularly fill it with water for every training ride now even my shorter 1 hour rides and dont bother with a bottle. To upgrade to two bottles they offer this: https://www.specialized.com/...serve-rack-ii/107003 You apparently can still use the wing from the description as well.

Thanks! I think maybe the fuelsalage will grow on me and I need to swap the bite valve and give it a shot.

Can you snap a pick of the "wing"? I feel like I have the wing on my Sitero, i.e. I have 3 mounting spots for cages. I'm not sure what the wing is itself honestly. I think that would be perfect. I think I could pack the same - there's just no way of getting it all in there without something out back.

I use the fuelselage and a Zipp bta system for hydration. I use the fuelcell for nutrition and a tube and some small items. Then I have a xlab gear box on the back in the single bottle cage with the sitero saddle. I carry levers/multi tool another tube and Co2 cartridges/inflator and a patch kit. It is a really clean setup.

That sounds like a solid, clean set up. That's what I'm trying to get to - not a yard sale hanging off of it, but I also don't want to get stuck out there either. Thanks for the feedback.

Great looking bike! I like the co2 attachment - I think that's what they're calling the wing. I'll need to see if I can snag one and see if it does the trick. Thanks for the advice.

Think my plan is:
- BTA system - tbd
- Sitero wing to hold co2
- Fuel Cell tube, tire levers and inflator

Are you just packing a normal 80mm tube - not the "extra light" tubes? I am struggling to get anything in that Fuel Cell.

Really nice! I get the idea - thanks for the pic. I think that's what I'm going for. Doesn't look like you are as prepared as you actually are ha.

Yeah just the normal 80mm valve stem tubes. Its a tight fit to be sure and my multi tool that is flat is beside the tube and had to be put it in together and the same time and slowly pushed in. Note I only have one tire lever in there not two. I also got the smallest inflator head I could find, I have had to use it and since there is NOTHING to hold on to but the canister it gets stupid cold. This one releases air by you pushing the CO2 up into the head after you screw it in. It actually came with a little sleeve to assist with that and is the black thing on the top co2 cylinder.

Well done getting that all to fit. Good find on that tiny inflator as well - every little bit helps to pack it in.

Yeah have everything a need. I usually just throw away the bta and use the Gatorade on course and dump water in the fuelselage.

My flat kit fits into the FuelCell, just takes some work (tip: mark the level the rubber cap comes down to so you can load the bottom part and know the cap will fit). The rubber top of the FuelCell can be used to hold a micropump or CO2s as well.

For BTA, I have a ziptied cage and can either use handups from aid stations (70.3+), or insert my Xlab torpedo bottle (sprints and Olys). I don't use the Fuelsalage.

I use the fuel cell and have a tube, continental space light , only for the reason that they come rolled super tight and fit easier in the cell then anything else I have tried. I can also fit 1 co2 , an inflators (xlab nano), the valve remover, and some cash. I put a single tire lever in the top part. I got a tip from one video I saw that really helped to load it, draw a line with a sharpie on the cell where the bottom of the rubber top comes to, that's the level you can load to.

I currently am using an xlab torpedo Versa 500 carbon BTA but at my last race it leaked while the bike was racked in transition. So I am looking for another solution. I havent used the fuselage yet. I changed my saddle to a Dash stage.9 and have an xlab Carbon wing with 2 xlab gorilla cages attached. I have the xlab nut that screws in the back which holds 2 co2 canisters and an inflator but since i found the race light tubes I have taken it off. The last picture has the x-nut mounted to the bike for your reference.

edit: The leak was my fault. I mistakingly installed an old cap that has a hole drilled into it, thus allowing fluid to leak out. It appeared to be coming from the straw hole, but it was just running out that way. I like that one for training because of the increased flow i can draw through the straw. I installed the solid cap today and there is no leaking. I am so happy because I love the setup of the torpedo.

Beautiful bike - 1x would have served me well down here in FL too. Let me know what you come up with as far as a non-leaking BTA solution. I like the Torpedo because you can throw in a traditional bottle as well I think, correct? I may pick up those tubes simply for storage sake. That is a good tip that I completely forgot about - the marking the side of the fuel cell. Will be doing that when I get home tonight.

Are these the tubes you're talking about? The smooth valve shouldn't have an effect on anything I guess? http://www.ebay.com/...rgC2vNw6AsLYAomiHLcw

Thanks, and yes you can put a standard bottle in the torpedo and the computer mount swivels down out of the way, as shown on their website. Thats one of the reasons i like it so much. Its the first time it leaked in Transition, I am going to email the company. I tried the profile designs FC hydration, but it was to big for my taste.

yes, but i bought them here (your link is cheaper though)

http://www.excelsports.com/...major=1&minor=31

with these valve extenders so i can use the shortest valve (42mm) they have a nice rubber grommet that contacts the carbon wheel on my rear 808. I haven't found the right combo for the front 404 yet.

http://www.excelsports.com/...major=1&minor=51

any valve extenders will work, but i like the ones that you remove the valve from the tube to make it work, the others are unreliable.

Another storage option for a shiv, we make an advanced top tube bento that can hold additional items like nutrition. The Speedpack 483 can mount as shown, but it can also be mounted more forward even over the hydration bladder opening. The advanced low-profile straps mean zero slipping or sliding of the pack:

Advanced Aero TopTube Storage for Road, Gravel, & Tri...ZeroSlip & Direct-mount, made in the USA.

Just FYI, there is a version of the Reserve Rack II which is not compatible with the sitero, but only the power saddle via two screws. Do not get this one (http://www.bikesourceonline.com/product/specialized-direct-mount-reserve-rack-w-cages-246337-1.htm) if you run a sitero...I learned this the hard way. Has anyone overcome this problem by the way?

Fuelselage for electrolyte

One bottle of liquid nutrition on the seat tube cage.

Sitero saddle with the integrated cage for the XLab mini cage pod with the flat kit inside.

Very clean compared to most bikes in transition... :p

I like those cage pods - may pick one up. Certainly a clean set up. I would do that and keep the fuel cell on, but my iPhone 6 plus won't even fit in the bottom of the fuel cell without cutting into the rubber top! Love hate relationship with that fuel cell ha

I too have watched all the videos and can get very little in the Fuelcell; multi-tool and tire lever are the main things, then spare contact lens and sun block. Tried and tried to get a tube in there, did but then nothing else fit. My solution was the X-Lab Carbon Wing w/ Multi-Strike to carry the CO2 and mini-pump, then I tuck the tube in the center "cavity" of the Wing.

Very nice color Shiv! May I please ask how you were able to attach the Torpedo BTA up in front, with the new/recalled aerobar attachments? May I request for a photo?

I use a BTA cage (ziptied) and one cage behind the saddle (ziptied, Spech Rib Cage...doesn't launch, even when mounted nearly horizontal). The BTA cage has an XLab Torpedo w/straw for shorter races, or just take handup bottle in longer ones.

I don't use the Fuelselage.

In the Fuel Cell I have a tube, levers, microtool, and patch kit in the bottom section. The top has a blackburn micro pump and a gel flask (6oz). You could swap 2 CO2s for the pump easily.

If I need extra nutrition storage, I have a DSW aero bento that can hold another flask, salt tabs, etc.

Markmdr,

I think you were asking me about how to attach the Torpedo to the new aerobars. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I saw the post a while back and just forgot about it. Not sure why i remembered it today, but i did. See the attached top and bottom views. Let me know if you want any additional information.
