Also looking forward to seeing in person, I checked for local dealers but only big box stores (Sports Authority, REI, and Dick's) are listed. I can't imagine any of them putting an $8K TT bike on their floor.

A DB vendor had a demo a few months ago that I attended. It looks aero (which is what most of us care about anyway!!!) with its narrow head tubes and curved lines. However....there was something about it that didn't appeal to me. Specifically, I noticed little things like the plastic piece on the top tube that routed the cables from the frame either loose or missing altogether from some of the models. I made me think of water or other substances getting in the frame on a rainy day. While minor to some, it made me think they overlooked larger issues with the bike.

Anyone else notice the huge slash in prices on the Serios bikes?

The Ultergra Electronic Shifting version went from $7.5k to $4.6k

I believe DB is going direct to consumer now so cutting out the middle man allows for same profit margins while hopefully increasing sales at the lower price.

Are the Diamondback Aerostorms (rebranded Lapierre?) not a DB product anymore? I just happened to be looking a some used versions.

why o why is anyone even looking at this? Diamondback hasn't been a legitimate manufacturer in years, nothing has changed. Good luck with your over priced walmart bike, because that is what this is.

Jim, better go check the reviews. People love the podium carbon road bikes. Your bias and uninformed opinion are unfortunate.

Website pricing hasn't changed, but the $4610 price is their "team" pricing, so maybe they are just going with that wherever you saw it listed...

I actually just got one of the aerostorm frames and I am in the process of building it up. Its a really nice frame,
I am comparing to previous bike I have owned like:
- Giant Trinity Advanced
- QRoo CDO.1
- BMC TMO2.

The pick shown of the aerostorm above isn't using the DB stems, they are pretty nice, made for di2 with wire routing and finish flush with top tube. Although the Aerostorm isn't and was never made for the public and it does vary from the Lapierre version ( Lapierre doesn't have integrated fork brakes, seat post is different) I wouldn't hesitate buying the Serios.

After digging in a little more - it seems like the cheaper price is through the Slowtwitch ad:

Hi All,

James from Diamondback here. The article from Dan and Slowtwitch has certainly generated a lot of banter on the Serios bike. I am happy to answer questions regarding our bikes.

In regards to this thread, there are some points I want to weigh in on:

First, the bike that was posted earlier was of a custom painted Accell design frame for National TT Champion Tom Zirbel. Those frames were also used by FDJ and branded Lapierre. The intent was to use that frame until we completed our two plus year R&D on the Serios in conjunction with Steve Hed and Kevin Quan Studios.

Second - is this our first design of this type of Triathlon/TT frame. Yes. Is this our first foray into the Triathlon world. No. Remember the Dave Scott Centurion? Yeah that was us. Also, the VP of Diamondback is a 5 time Ironman finisher and owned the East Coast's first true Triathlon store for over 5 years, then 12 years at another well known company in the industry before coming to Diamondback. So we have some history here.

Third - The Serios came to be as a result of our relationship with the Optum Pro p/b Kelly Benefits Cycling teams. They were riding our road frames and we wanted them on a DB designed TT frame. However, not every roadie is in dire need of a TT bike. So we knew we needed to design a bike that could be two things - UCI legal for the Pro teams as well a bike to be sold to the extremely competitive consumer market (read: Triathletes). So in collaboration with two of the industries top people - Steve Hed and Kevin Quan, we did just that. Check out the video - https://vimeo.com/106946118.

Last piece - Most triathletes who are purchasing these bikes are exceptionally well informed and utilize the internet along with forums such as Slowtwitch for trusted product info/reviews. Thus we decided to sell direct to consumer for the Serios models coupled with the fact that we are able to send the bikes 99% built from our factories. These bikes come out of the box with minimal consumer assembly. Literally it is put bars on, seat post in, inflate tires and go. Obviously, most athletes are going to be doing a full fit, and we are working to improve our fit tools to assist in making the correct sizing choice. Also, we lowered the pricing on the bikes in its inaugural year to help entice athlete's to throw a leg over bike that is proven to be fast. Just ask the Optum women's team who took the National TTT title this year with the Men just missing the top step by 7 seconds.

Thanks for reading.

A few years ago, you are correct. But their recent bikes are great. Particularly the Haanjo series. Very solid bikes. If they said something other than Diamondback on the downtube they would get rave instead of very good reviews. Which is too bad.

Will the 'S' spec model be sold frame only?

Currently the frameset is sold only in the AF color scheme, which includes the HED Corsair Bar and the proprietary stem.

I have a Haanjo Trail and Sortie 3 from this last year. They are very quality bikes. Maybe a Serios will be in the cards in a few years.

Hi James,

Thanks for chiming in. A question and a few suggestions:
-Do you guys have a partnership with any paint shops where I could get a frame custom painted while retaining my warranty? (Akin to what Cervelo has with Hot Tubes)
-Perhaps for future years, put bottle bosses high on the seat-tube. I just did this with my Speed Concept for a 100-mile ride. It's a very handy place for a bottle without imposing an aero penalty (I think). Plus it would open up the market for companies like X Lab to make something akin to Trek's draft box.
-I see the frameset for ~$2,700 and the 105 bike for ~$2,200. Honestly, I think a frameset sans cockpit for $1,999 would be a big seller. Right now there aren't many options for framesets out there. Lots of people are buying P2s and stripping them down to build them up as they see fit. Honestly, there's too much variety out there in drive trains (cabled, wired, soon wireless, 2x/1x, all manner of crank lengths and types) for a manufacturer to appeal to everyone with their offerings. Plus there are a lot of people who already have training AND race wheels. Your cockpit is nice but I could see other people wanting something else, hence my argument for a naked frame.

Here's a shot of me riding my new Serios on the way to winning my AG (55-59) at the Boulder 70.3. I had a 10 min + faster bike split (2:24) than I've seen since I returned to road triathlons in 2013 (I may have gone faster 15 years ago, but I was a bit younger then).

It is an awesome bike. I got the frame, and moved my components over (as they weren't old). I haven't dialed everything in yet, but I only had this bike for a few weeks before the race. I was pretty damn surprised at how fast I went, and at least 3 young guys that I passed on the bike said "nice ride" to me on the run.

I will check with warranty, but I can't see where reprinting your frame would void its warranty. I am familiar with Hot Tubes (nephew was in their junior racing program). They do good work. We have also had some work done by Tim with Color Technologies LLC
(1725 Terrace Drive, Roseville, MN 55113 651-484-4822 fax 651-484-8812). Another to try would be Tom Kellogg in PA with Spectrum cycles.
Noted on the bottle mounts. Will let the Dev team know about that.
Same for the frame option. We decided to do that frame and bar combo due to the stem being designed around the corsair bar. As we move forward in the segment, I am sure we will look at just making it a frame and stem offering for the reasons you pointed out.
Thanks for the feedback!

I don't really need a new bike, but at that price, the Ultegra DI2 is very tempting. I've had the same bike since 2011...... Hmmmm...... Wonder if my wife would notice another bike in the house?

Are you taking the bikes to a few races for test rides? Or even to lbs? Any sponsorships like the old javelin sponsorships?

I spoke with our warranty department, and repainting the frame would in fact void the warranty.

Sorry for my earlier comments, just went through the line up. I work for a shop and most of the diamondbacks we see for service are walmart level bikes. The actual road line up looks acceptable.

We don't have set plans to be at any upcoming races. For 2015 the bikes are all available directly to consumers. I know there have been a few shops that have bought a bike and done some builds. As for "sponsorships", we have developed relationships with several clubs and teams. That said, I would be happy to speak with you club or team.

A few questions...
1- how do I go about talking to you about my teams (I'm on 2. A local team and a national firefighter team)?

2- how do I find pricing for bikes? I went to your website and everything is MSRP.

Any idea between which size I should get. currently riding a medium speed concept with an aggressive position.

I'm 5'11" with a 33 inch inseam. Should I go 54 or 56?

BigC,

I am comparing the Medium Trek's Geo to the Serios. It seems to fall in between the Serios 54 and 56. Based on your inseam measurement, I am initially inclined to say go with the 56. However because you indicated you run a more aggressive fit, a 54 might be a better fit.

I would recommend working with our custom Studio folks help dial you in more specifically to the size that will emulate the fit #'s of your Speed concept.

http://www.diamondback.com/custom-studio

Working thru the custom studio site will allow you to customize your Serios using various components packages, wheels, bar and seat options.
