To the previous poster, there isn't really any venom, but I certainly found the thread where she was awkwardly caught in a pair of lies ("professional" status, claiming people were hitting on her) compelling. It looks like its been taken down, so I'm not sure what happened there.

As for my last comment, a portion of her claim to being a professional was that she got paid to be one of the "hot" girls at some triathlon event where they were pushing an energy drink or something, and I can objectively say her placing at that event deserved nothing more than a pity clap.

People like you, who make crazy logical leaps to comical conclusions, usually suffer from staggeringly low IQs, low incomes, and the conviction that their girlfriend's are satisfied. I totally feel for you too buddy. Just remember, if she says it's a good size, it means it's small.

Just saying..... How well would you do if your body was actively working against itself?

I think she is pretty. But I do think she kind of has a self-aggrandizing way of viewing herself. And she communicates this very clearly in her writings.
I've met people like this and I believe it is a coping mechanism. I wish her well but I don't think the triathlon world would really have noticed her departure. And maybe that is why she chose to announce it.

Sorry to read that she is stepping away from racing. Hopefully she stays connected with the triathlon community and finds success in her fight against RA.

Can someone fill in the rest of us outside the circle so we can understand why there is so much criticism of Angela?

I believe the issue is that she promoted herself as a professional triathlete. Meaning she was compensated by sponsors but based on her physique and appeal rather than her performance.

Also something about she entered some races as a "challenged" athlete because of her arthritis and some took issue with this.

And we should all be upset about this.... why exactly? Because she's good looking and gets paid for it, and we are ugly and slow, and therefore we don't get anything?

My friend who actually has RA just won her AG at IMCoz, and I have a form of it called Ankylosing Spondylitis and was 8th in my AG at IMAZ 4 weeks ago.

So to answer your question, pretty darn well. Neither of us would ever dream of racing as "disabled", because that's an insult to people who are actually disabled.

That might be part of it. However if you have ever visited her website it is pretty over-the-top. It seems that she is not shy at all at telling all how wonderful she is. And she seems to be serious. Sure she is good looking and above average in endurance sports. But it is a bit misleading when she calls herself a professional triathlete. I don't think that she has ever raced in any triathlon where other pros show up.

I've been paid by a number of NFL teams, I have never once proclaimed myself a professional football player. Not worth getting upset about, but I don't put her in much higher regards than Ben Greenfield. The very epitome of self-aggrandizing and apparently she was caught numerous times not exactly being honest.

As a hooker, I doubt you would have got away with it.

I think it's the perception that she highly self-promotional, but not very talented (2:51 for an Oly this May). Also, a lot of people feel that she pulled out the challenged athlete card when she couldn't cut it as a pro. For lots of folks the fact that she has RA is not a legit reason to compete in a category vs. folks missing a limb.

Well RA (and ankylosis) is a recognized "eligible impairment" in triathlon and it's not like you just walk up a registed as a para athlete, you have to go through an evaluation process. And the ITU has different classifications and levels of impairment to account for the variety of impairments.

What about restless leg syndrome? Can I pull a Durazo and qualify to race against the disabled with that?

There was a thread a while ago witch got pulled, but essentially the OP asked if someone could call themselves a "professional triathlete" without a Pro or elite card. There was a certain amount of reasonable debate on both sides, IE people who have P-eng degrees or are doctors etc maybe saying that "professional" means barrier to entry via education, performance etc. others were saying that she has a massive marketing engine and that although her results aren't at a pro level she was achieving "brand value" for her sponsors, and therefore a "pro"

For me, I don't really care and I didn't post. Calling yourself a "pro" triathlete is not illegal, calling yourself an engineer or a doctor when you aren't is.

There was also debate on both sides of the "challenged athlete" qualification, IE missing a leg vs arthritis etc,

So…like I say reasonable debate on both sides….until Angela accused the OP of "hitting on her" on social media (Facebook to 10K plus followers) , the OP (and IIRC his wife) asked her to qualify her statements. She never did and the thread got pulled (on here) and she pulled the thread accusing him of hitting on her on FB, The OP is not anonymous on here.

Reasonable debate, on "pro vs real pro" or "challenged vs non challenged" etc up until that point. As I said I didn't get into it…people were making arguments on both sides.

Not sure about that but if there was a classification for "intellectual impairment" that would qualify a large chunk of ST :) Again it is not as simple as ticking the paratriathlete box on the registration form, there is a pretty detailed process and list of impairments to become classified in a certain group.

She had been extremely critical of a friend of mine who just turned pro questioning his training, social media presence, race results, etc. here credentials are what exactly?

Earlier, someone mentioned her kind presence on social media. I get forwarded tweets regularly about her insults on various people and then she will either retract or remove her comments. Meds must take time to kick in.

Yes, my wife (and I) both asked her for proof or evidence that I ever hit on her. Crickets.

Eh well...she retired and no one really cares.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess it is not about your board seat....

You are the only one that knows what you did or did not do, and really I have no business asking or judging, but there seems to be a fine line between airing opinions on forums or other mediums and what other people may consider cyber-bullying.

While she seems to possibly have a history of jumping to conclusions, some of the responses she got from people that claim to know you are interesting to say the least. From an outsiders view, I am not sure who to believe after I have read through some of this information.

I agree with others that posted on here that if you feel you have been wronged its time to get an attorney.

i was running for a not so public facing - but more operations position. i know my opinions do bring scrutiny that is why i didnt go for pres or vp. The president told me i cant run , because of my opinions. they also just as of now, banned me from the club as a member, right before elections. (perhaps this angela thing didnt help - but then they made a judgement based on FALSE accusations)....

last time we had elections, it was run by independent group of volunteers, this time its being run by the board itself, many who are re-running for positions. So they are trying to rig outcome to favor someone they want in. they broke the bylaws when they blocked my email asking members to have an independent body for elections.

She's found a disability group for which she's qualified.
It's hard to say when someone actually deserves to be in a disability group.
Is it a missing arm, leg? How about 4 toes, or the loss of the prime nose picking finger?
Hard to make that call.

I think what rubbed people the wrong way was that she set up a website advertising herself as a professional triathlete, and listed results - lots of 1st place listings. No statement of division. Just 1st place. When you dig into it, it was always something like she was first in PC division against only two other competitors, neither of which had legs.

When challenged about whether or not she was really pro despite not having a pro license and results that would put her MOP in her age group she said she trained 30 hours a week at high intensity, just like pros and she made money from triathlon (as a booth bunny for companies that sold stuff at races, and as a model in some ads). When challenged about whether or not she should be claiming glorious victory over people with no legs she claimed that even a single run caused her so much pain that she had to stay in bed for a week.

I know there was some controversy surrounding the last election and your desired position, but how can you be told that you can't run? so they gave me 4 examples of my facebook postings that earned me a ban:

1) i posted that i was disappointed losing to a first year member of the tri club that no one knew
2) a guy was bragging about that anything less than ultra is lame, i told him to try to run a fast 5k, to which he bragged about his BQ - to which I said is only 60% good,
3) im a nutrition nut, two people were bragging about a fried food being healthy, to which I said it is not

and there you go. my opinions on facebook are considered unsportsman like conduct, im in the same class as dopers, people who physically harmed other participants in a sport, etc etc

as for the original bring back this thread up, it seems she took everything down - i dont know if its cause she is honestly doing it because realizing the false accusations are wrong; or because of all the reports filed against the posts she made

Roger, time for some tough love here: From the outside what appears to have happened is you tried to bully someone who has proven to be a much bigger bully. I don't know what started this. Perhaps all you did was tell a silly joke, create a fake facebook account, or something else relatively benign. But in playground parlance, your mouth wrote a check your butt couldn't cash. Scaling your actions against hers to try to show that the magnitude of her sins is far greater than your own is a fools errand. That is a battle you cannot win. Step away and log out. It will go away if you let it.
