No that is the headset that came with it. I am going to get a zero drop headset though, because I think I can get at least another cm out of the drop. I really fit myself to the bike with the idea of more frame, no spacers, but I think the headset cap (24 mm I think) can be much lower. So that will give me some more room to get more aggressive.

An adjustable may happen, but I'm pretty sure that I can get there with the headset. I love the bike though, sweet, and really, very few out there. Fast I think! Really fast!

Brent, how tall are you? I've been considering a 54 Slice, in essence to fit myself with more frame, but was concerned it could be a little large. TIA

5'9. Honestly, there was the ability to get two bikes, both of which were not "ideal". And financially, it was between those two bikes. I think the fit is pretty good, and went with the 54 due to worrying that the 51 wouldn't be long enough.

It is def the biggest I could go for sure.

I have short legs...80 cm inseam. 31.5 inches or something. 71 cm on the seat height and drop of 12 cm if i remember correctly. I have a long torso and shorter legs. So keep morphology in mind as you choose. Get the right size but I'm sure you'll LOVE the bike!

I'm 5'8" as well, and I ride a 54 Slice. I'm somewhat long-ish of leg, and a 54 seems to be a little long for my torso (not crazy long, just a little) but I would have to run more spacers on a 51. I went with the mantra to buy a bigger frame and minimize the number of spacers/avoid using an upward angled stem.

I'll get a new picture up in this thread soon...

Hmmm, I'm unsure of the exact model, but I think it's a Tacx Saddle Clamp. It has an Elite bottle cage mounted to it. 1 or 2 bottle cages can fit on the clamp. Great holder, but quite a hassle to mount it!

EDIT: just realized that I took this picture from the floor, hence the "illusion" that the seat is either too high/low! I'm 176cm (5'8") with really long legs, hence the possibility that my seat looks high!

Although it's not my bike pictured, I've ridden my 2008 Slice with both an Open Pro + cover and 404FC + cover without any issues. The only issue I have ever had with the wheelcover is the need to tape down the drive side cover so the chain doesn't rub when in the largest cog.

Best of luck,

Here is an "older" Slice with a rear disc:

No trouble fitting the newest Renn disc into the rear triangle or opening the Ultegra brake wide enough.
Look closer and one will find the "new to the market" Compact Cannondale Quarq power meter.

Yeah as it sat there minus the seatpost bottle cage piece it is just over 19 pounds. With bottle cages(1 on seat tube and 2 behind saddle) and Reynolds DV3K wheels ready to ride it is 19lbs 6oz. Definitely not a weight weenie but a fast bike none the less.

Yes, you are correct. It is a 60cm frame size. I saw a number of Slices on the race course last weekend at IM Florida, but all of them were newer with different paint schemes. I really like the 2009 paint scheme because it is more understated and less flashy.

The stock one on my wife's is 15mm. Trying to find something lower stack. I have an FSA 6.5mm on my P3 but not knowing a thing about headsets or compatibility, I'm asking around :)

And I very nice vision indeed... nice work. Wouldn't mind seeing a zoomed out pic showing your entire set-up.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cannondale issue an upgrade option to the front end of the regular slice (non rs version) in the form of an integrated fork/stem package similiar (basic idea) to the Felt bayonet 2 steering system. Available as a seperate optional item to us current slice owners. They could keep the regular front brake bosses or go as far as to integrate the front brakes like the rs version. A "middle" ground so to speak between the regular slice and the slice rs. Or am I alone on these thoughts.

Anyone out there with the new Slice RS? Thinking about getting one but a bit confused on sizing. Based on the geometry on the Cannondale website looks like a 50 or 52cm will fit me. I'm about 5'6" and currently riding a 51cm Cervelo P3. Leaning toward the 50cm Slice RS based on standover and weight reduction with the smaller frame. Anyone with experience or input on the Slice RS fitting????

What did you do with the cables to get the Speedworks bag up against the stem? Are they just out into the wind or are they fixed somehow?

Old thread, but some new additons so I will add mine. I'm one of the only guys on this thread riding it in the rear clamp position. Since then I have changed the horrible Vision Tech Race bends with some nice Bonetrager RLX Race bend carbon clip ons work much better for my body dimensions.

If you ride in the forward (triathlon position) on the seatpost location, you may run into difficulty in mounting a rear saddle hydration setup. I have a Cobb V-Max saddle -slid rearward- that can not mount the following Xlab series units--Mini and Delta. The Trax setup will not work either. The Beaker Concepts Hydro Tail works fine and I am awaiting for their retail production/availability of a single cage mount to bring everything closer to the saddle. Of course the Cannondale rear hydration mount works.

I actually ordered this model from my LBS. 3 weeks later they called and said it was in, and built (lots of delays on Cannondale's side with getting the bike in). I showed up to pick it up and this is what I saw:

Not quite what I had in mind. Apparently Cannondale has oversold the 105, so they gave me the Ultegra model for the same price. It was a bit of a conundrum. I LOVE the black/grey of the 105, but I'm pretty happy with the component upgrade. I suppose I'll take the uglier (relatively speaking) bike, especially since my first race of the season is on the 5th.

Right now it's stock everything aside from the Flo's (which would have gone nicely with the black/grey, my black kit, silver helmet and silver shoes, *sigh*). My white Adamo Prologue is going on, and I picked up a VisionTech TriMax Plus bar with 250mm extensions for $25 at the end of season sale at my LBS, so those'll be going on, and it's yet to be fit.

Now I just need a name. A Facebook friend suggested F'ing Space Ship, but I had to pass. The next suggestions was the FSS Yournotunique, which has promise, but, no. I do like the FSS idea, though. Any other suggestions?

Not sure this belongs in this thread, apologies if I'm cluttering the wrong place, but I have a hydration system question for the Slice. Is anyone using Cannondale's integrated seatpost cage mount (http://www.cannondaleexperts.com/...et--KP059_p_343.html) or are most rear-hydration system users mounting an x-lab wing, etc., straight to the saddle rails?

I have a 2012 Slice with an ISM saddle that's fairly far forward on the rails, so I have concerns about clearance issues - and my LBS was not inclined to open the x-lab packages to see if the Delta 225 would fit.

Also, wondering about both the integrated mount and the 225, it looks like they hold the bottle/cage lower than one would want (and, with the saddle being as far forward as it is and the 225's tilt, would it contact the rear of the seat post?).

In short - anyone using the integrated mount and what do you think of it?

(FWIW - I have the PD Aero HC, so just looking for a single bottle mount to refill that)

I am using it at the moment, but not sure if I'll continue to do so. I have a TorHans VR, and ordered a PD HC, but not sure how the HC will fit - I have short-ish extensions. So, for now, I'm using the behind-the-saddle. My problem with it, at least in the single bottle set-up, is that I have trouble reaching it without coming completely out of aero. Or, rather, I am unable to reach it without coming out of aero - it's just too horizontal and set back too far.

All that said, for training rides, it's fine. I have a Specialized RibCage on there and haven't lost a bottle (new bike, so not a ton of rides yet, but still).

I am currently using the PD HC system with the cannondale mount in the back. It works fine, but sits a bit low and is hard to reach. I have ordered the PD RM -1 as it sits higher, and will be easier to reach, I have heard even staying aero.

I now have the Cannondale single waterbottle mount with an X-Lab Gorilla cagethat securely holds what I put in it. It is low but I don't really care as I need it for longer training ride and during longer races it serves as a "spare" cage as/when needed. It is only 110 grams heavy which is very light for a rear seat mount. It is easy to switch from a single to dual rear water bottle carrier but I have never used such a setup outdoors.

Yeah, I was, and still sort of am. But I'd been using a two-sizes-too-big road bike with clip-ons for 3 years, and my first race of the season was like 2 weeks away. It was either say no to the bike in front of me (with nicer components), wait an undetermined amount of time for the right one to come in (since C'dale has apparently massively oversold that 105 model; why they'd make the lowest model the nicest color is beyond me), and race some/most/all(?!?) of this season on my pretty uncomfortably fit road bike, OR, take the same frame with nicer components, but a paint job I wasn't as thrilled with, and get right to work getting used to it.

I decided to go with the latter. Besides, I can always get it custom painted.

I think this is the perfect forum to discuss this rear mount system. It was one feature that sold me on the Slice. I originally had two Gorilla cages on the back, with a wing nut holding Co2 and valve. Now I'm using just one behind the saddle, and one zip tied to my stem. My bars are not long enough to mount further up, but it works for me. It is certainly a little hard to get a bottle in and out of the rear facing cage while riding. The gorilla cage holds my bottle tight and i haven't even come close to having one eject. The single cage sitting a little lower behind the seat allowed me to get a flat kit including a tube, tire lever, 2 x Co2, plus a valve under the seat nice and tight. They do not budge.

Here mine is.

I got it last year. I quickly got rid of the OE seat and got and Adamo and otherwise trained and raced it stock. This winter I used it on the trainer in the basement and changed out the nearly straight bars for some more comfortable shorty bent FSA bars. I switched the shimano pedals over to speed-play pedals (probably one of the best improvements I could have made no more IT pain) I added the speedfill and a rear bottle carrier. The HED 5-7 set I got is great, it handles great and gives me a 2+ mph average over the stock wheel set which is now my trainer/crappy road wheel set.

Check out my ghetto custom PVC Cateye computer mount...

OH yeah and my super custom aero helmet

I do feel a little silly being a 40 year old man and getting happy about putting RC plane decals on a helmet, but I thought it was a cool look.

Though since this picture was taken a few weeks ago I put on a TriRig Omega front brake and replaced the rear with an Apex caliper (the tektro ones I had on there weren't quite wide enough for the Flo's -- I had to shave a LOT off the pads to make those work).

Nice bike.
Do the Heds really get you 2+ mph faster average than the standard wheels?
Was there a problem with the previous wheelset - out of true/dragging on the brake blocks, hubs out of adjustment or something?

Thanks, yes they do. I ride the same roure all the time. I live in a very rural area with only 2 paved roads. I do the same out and back route all the time. The only thing that varies is the distance or the time, but I am always on the same road in the same conditions.

I usualy go for time rather than distance (1 hour is 30 minutes out and then turn around back home) Sometimes I ride for distance, usualy 56 miles for a race simulation.

I consistantly average 18.8 mph in all conditions with the Hed wheelset. The stock Shimano R50 gave me an average of 16.5. I am pretty meticulous with maintence. The stock wheels have no issues.

Just had a GURU DFU bike fit. Loved it ! Huge benefits. Power went way up and much more aero.

Brought my saddle more forward and a tiny bit higher. And changed to a Bontrager Hilo RXL Speed Dial saddle. Adjustable nose width make a huge difference in my comfort. Changed the angle of my read bottle cage. Now i can actually reach it while riding.

Raked out and lowered my cockpit and changed to all carbon. Moved my front bottle cage onto an Xlab Torpedo mount. Dropped almost 2 lbs !

Be careful when I went from a 56 slice to a 54 slice rs as the are basically the same stack n reach the base bar on the rs was 100mm lower then my slammed 56 slice. I sold that bike and bought a 56 slice rs was 20mm more stack and only 9mm more reach. I suggest you ride a few first. Extension and elbow pad are adjustable the base bar is not. Nice bike by the way.

Going to experiment with the heigth of the steerer tube and then cut it. Also need to redirect all the cables trough the Sigma. Still thinking about the best way to do this for the cables going to the shifters... Maybe a strange angle on the rear profile design bottle-cages this way, but I like it. I can get and place the bottles fast and haven't lost one so far. Next to come; a stages or power2max powermeter.

I cleaned up the cables over the winter. Changed them out for NOKON, added the TRI RIG brakes, got rid of the DIY cateye mount and added a bar fly for my Garmin.

Now for some Ghetto DIY.

I don't care but it works.

It is a painted Gatoraide container (dry mix concentrate)

It holds my spare tube, 2 CO2 and chuck, patch kit, tire levers and tool.

Additional my 5 OZ flask of EFS gell fits in the carrier and has NEVER ejected.

I have the 2 bottle cages (which for cheapo aluminum have been great, they have never ejected either) I use them during long training rides but leave them off for races as the speedfill is usually enough for sprints and Olympics and during the 70.3s I have done there has always been enough aid stations.

Wish me luck this Sunday at IM MT Tremblant 70.3

Do the risers come with the Ventus bar or do they have to be bought separately? Also, how did you find the cable routing through the bars, particularly the front brake?

Re: Let's See Your Slice! [Ctolllin] [ In reply to ]

You have to buy risers separately - I bought them direct from 3T online. They don't make risers especially for the Ventus - just get the Brezza II risers. I just had to cut down the bolts they supplied by 1cm as otherwise they are too long.

Cable routing was easy - I do however prefer to have my brakes the opposite way around - right = front brake. There is quite a tight bend on the front brake from where it exits the bar to the caliper, just use a fairly flexible cable housing. Otherwise no issues.

Hi,
I'm more than happy to share it with you.
I measured the required volume of my flat kit, cut the form of styrofoam with a clearance between box and seat post.
Next I wrapped the frame in cling film, put the foam box in place and filled the gaps with PU builder's foam, which expands inside any cavities and therefore giving you a perfect negative form of the bike's back end.
Then it was a simple matter of laminating a few layers of carbon over the form, take out the foam and attach the whole thing with two velcro straps.
The airfoil shape of the seat post stabilizes the box in horizontal direction while the seat post clamp avoids vertical displacement of the box.
Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures during the build, sorry

Can I ask you, what version of the risers did you use for your ventus ii? I can't seem to find a clear answer online as to the right ones to use, and I'd love to get some so I can drop my base bar and trim my stem from it's ridiculous height.
Thanks

Get the risers for the Brezza II - these:

http://store.3tcycling.com/...it-10-20-mm-160.html
or
http://store.3tcycling.com/...r-kit-60-mm-161.html

They fit the Ventus II perfectly but with the 60mm kit you will just have to cut down the bolts that are supplied by ~1cm (otherwise they are too long). Easily done with a hacksaw.

I hurt my back two years ago and had got the p3 thinking I'd do another ironman and keep on training for long course stuff. But, my back hates more than three hrs on the bike and I felt a bit 'tired' of long distance stuff. As a result, I sold the p3 and bought a nice roadie and a cheap TT to do sprint tris (both draft and ND).

Quick question on the 2011 slice 5 frameset - the white black and red model. I see they and other slices of that generation fit Flo Wheels. I have Hed jet 6+...I assume those would fit fine with 23c tires? Anyone run 25s? Thinking of picking up a slice frameset. Also-does it use standard brake caliper mounts front and rear, and what's the BB? BB30? Thanks!

The Hed Jet 6+ with 25c width tires (Michelin Pro Competition) work fine on my 2010 Slice. The fork width is sufficient. The real question is whether your front brake calipers open wide enough for tires that balloon to 28c. I run a rear disc and 23c width tire on my rear.

Off topic a bit, but why does it seem like there's massive discrepancies between shop prices (msrp)?

Examples:
http://urbantrigear.com/collections/biks/products/2015-cannondale-slice-ultegra-di2
(it's 2015, but you'd assume the msrp would be lower)

vs
http://kozy.com/product/cannondale-slice-ultegra-di2-30457.htm
showing a $4799 msrp.

It's a 2011 hi mod frame, 105 5800 group (wheels manufacturing bb adaptor), zipp alumina base bars, PD t2+ extensions, DA shifters, and for now I have my vuelta 30 mm training wheels on. soon enough she will see the Hed Jet 6+ with black logos...

Bumping thread for a question for slice owners.

Anyone running 25c tires in the rear for the 2011-era frame? I want to grab new tires and would prefer 25s if the frame will accommodate. I've seen earlier in the thread that 25 fits fine in front but not sure about rear. I'll be putting them on HED Jet6+ for what it's worth.

My rear tire rubbed with a 25 tire on a hed jet rim (not plus). The tire was a 4000 II, and it would spin just fine, but as soon as there was weight on the bike it rubbed. That was a 2014 frame, I think they're pretty similar between '11 and '14.

This is the rub mark:

This is the back end with a newer 24mm:

Yeah, there was about 1/8th of an inch space. IIRC I actually ran 23mm Schwalbe Ones just before I sold the bike because I had a couple blow outs with the 24mm Continental tires I had purchased and had become a bit overly cautious (but then I broke a spoke race day, so the tires weren't an issue at all :)

I never tried Turbo Cottons.

Yes, Omega on the rear. I had to use one of the included brackets, which cause it to stick out a bit. I was assured by Tririg that I mounted correctly. It offended me for a minute and I got over it. Way better braking with the omega.

I am sure to clean out the fairing and in particular the magnets. I have been riding it for ~3 years now and haven’t lost the cover.

Updated my ~2010 Cannondale Slice after really loving the Etap conversion I did on my roadie recently.

Sram Etap 11speed
Compact 50/34 165mn crank
Garmin Vector 3 Pedals
TriRig Brakes front & rear (I did the same on my aero roadie and I love their stopping power)
TriRig alpha bars and Gamma extensions. (love the new front end!)
Torhans bento box (the frame owes me nothing, so boldly went where tri rig did and installed bottle bosses in the top tube)
Flo 45 Carbon Clinchers (replaced my old Zipp 404 10sp w/ Power tap)
Etap Clicks on the end of the extensions, and blips mounted underneath the pursuit bar for shifting from either position.
Feels like a brand new bike now and looks sweet! Super pleased with it. Makes me excited to ride again. I don't miss the R2C shifters at all. She shifts like a dream now.

Very nice and clean. I don't see any zip ties; are you sticking your bento on there?

Edit: never mind, I finally read that you added bosses...would love to see pix of that. I briefly thought about that, but the tube is so narrow and I am chicken.

Not for the faint of heart.... I drilled holes in the top tube and riveted in bottle bosses for the bento. Tutorial on where I got the idea below. It will void your frame's warranty.

He mentioned he followed this TriRig guide to install your own bento bosses on any bike with a flat top tube. I wanted to do that on my p3c but it had too much curvature and I wasn't sure how it was going to work out. Does look really good though.

It will work just fine on a P3C as long as you are careful. The most important part is to ensure each hole is centered on the top tube, so that each rivnut will be centered and axially aligned.

My 2015 green / black / white Slice got a total make over: paint, electronic shifting, and bar / brake upgrades. I've been taking pictures in different locations, at different times of day, from different angles, but I haven't hit gold yet. Decided to load something anyway before there is no shot left to take that doesn't involve paint gouged down to the primer.

I'd like to cut the monopost down a bit at some point, once I'm convinced I'm done tinkering with the build.

Other than some extra flexing to the front end that I wasn't used to, it rides the same as before. I have rolled some familiar courses in slightly faster times on lower wattage but am unsure whether any of that might have to do with the crank / chainring reinstall (? - ETA in the event the power meter needed recalibration or something...).

I can't tell how you routed the rear brake cable? It normally runs under the basebar and to the left side of the headtube into the frame and comes out on the left side of the rear top tube. Did you route it differently? I also have a 2010 Slice that was recently upgraded to Etap.

The brake cable exits from the center of the basebar and then goes into the top tube entry port through the bento box. I had to carve out a portion of the bento box bottom to make this possible. The brake cable housing then gives me something firm to route the etap wires along to the blip box that also lives in the bento box. Hopefully that made sense. I'm away from the bike or I'd add photos.

You TriRiged punched three holes into the top tube (one for brake cable, two for the bento bag) to make this setup work? I agree the Etap setup helps minimize cable cluster.

Does anyone with a Superslice know if you need to fit the standard basebar/stem or had anyone tried fitting a TriRig Alpha One or X for instance with success? Seems like there might be some interference with the head tube/top tube area, the part behind the steerer tube

Alpha One doesn’t fit on the Superslice, for exactly the reason you describe. Alpha X does fit.

Both bars work on the standard Slice.

I was considering getting a used superslice a few months ago so researched the same options as you (didn't get it in the end for various reasons). Look at Joes cycling reviews on youtube, he dremels the bit behind the stem to fit a standard stem and bars. However he has to remove the headset top cap to get enough purchase on the steerer, although this wouldn't be an issue with the alpha 1. You could do a much neater job with the alpha one.

You could also try and contact EF Pro to see what they do/have any spares they might be able to sell you, as they appear to use current vision TFE integrated bars and stem (not the stock ones that came on the superslice), which are similar in style to the alpha one stem.
