Giro Advantage with LG Windscreen Conversion w/ Pictures!.
I know I posted about this yesterday, but here's a step by step description with pictures on how I did it. I was scared as hell I was going to ruin my helmet, but it worked out fine.

I have the Advantage 1, and I was using the new style windscreen with the cutouts.

I took a boxcutter and starting from the side of helmet nearest where the foam ends at the earpiece, I carefully and slowly inserted the blade between the foam and the helmet shell. The plastic is thicker and more resilient than it looks. Each time I inserted the blade, I would pry the plastic away from the foam a little. You need to move carefully and slowly to not damage the foam or scrape the paint from inside the helmet shell. Continue all the way round the front of the helmet. At the earpieces, I just used my fingers to pry away the foam. It's held on by a two-sided tape.

Insert the visor starting at one of the sides, then the other side, and slide the middle part in last. There is enough friction to hold the visor in place without using any tape or glue, plus you can easily pull it out and put in a different color visor if you want. You may need to use some double sided scotch tape on the earpieces to hold them onto the visor where it goes behind the earpieces.

Here are some pictures.

Here you can see how to line up the cutouts with the side of the helmet.

Here I'm pulling the earpiece back so you can see how the windscreen fits in.

Badass.

Looks like you're spending too much time and money on triathlon and not enough of home maintenance.

Hook up that deck with some stain and scrape/paint those windows!!!

That's beautiful!

One reason I didn't go for Advantage 2 was because I prefer a visor. Guess I'll start lookin again.

Is that a (bad) joke?

This combination is awesome. I'm not sure the giro advantage 2 is the best helmet out there but I really like it with the visor inserted. Sunglasses are for suckers.

Thats the way it came dude.

I just rode this thing for 40 miles the other day. It was awesome. I thought it would be hot, but the cutouts actually channel a nice breeze through so its tolerable. I'm very happy with it.

I know...and I was just makin' a little fun at your expense...sorry ;-)

It would probably make more sense if you knew that ALL of the vents on my LG Rocket are taped closed :-)

what are you going to do when you want to flip the visor up?

ever ridden a race with rain, fog or you needed to wipe the sweat off your face while riding?

those visors can and do fog up. hope you have radar to steer your bike then

Well...I think you might be mistakenly replying to me instead of the OP (since on my LG Rocket, the visor is "flippable")...but, in reality, since my testing has shown no difference for me with or without the visor drag-wise on the LG Rocket (I wear it mostly for noise reduction and to keep "critters" out of my helmet), if it's a "fogging" type of day, I just leave it off ;-)

Any custom modifications to safety gear by an end user will definitely invalidate the safety certifications that the helmet has attained. It may look cool but definitely not a smart thing to do.

Or this:

Or I could direct them to Felt's banner ad on this very website that shows 2 pro cyclists pominently sporting the Giro helmet with an attached visor.

But I'm sure you've already dimed us all out.

Tell me exactly how adding the visor will affect this helmets ability to protect my head from injury in a crash. I added the visor for the possible aero advantage, and the ability to to not have my vision interefered with by the top frame of my sunglasses.

Your comment about fashion statements did get me to thinking, so just for you Chubbly, I went downstairs and wrote AYH*SMB on the front of it.

See you at the races. Feel free to point me out to the USAT officials, narc.

The helmet isn't altered. A visor is worn in conjunction with the helmet. Race numbers on helmets, or wearing sunglasses aren't alterations either.

Just a question about the quoted rules. Has anyone had any issues with USAT/WTC triathlons using a windscreen modded to a Giro (or similar)---i.e. told they could not wear the helmet. Just wondering if this is a real-world issue.

Because everyone knows that aero equipment doesn't do you any good at all if you're going slower than that. Duh. Don't you know that the way in which air moves around an object undergoes a radical change when the speed changes from 24.999999 mph to 25 mph?

It's nice you keep finding all these international level cyclists that use this mod, but I'm pretty sure USAT is going to tell you those examples don't mean squat.

I would be concerned with crashing and the visor filleting my face if the tail got twisted around at all.

Then again, I like my face, yours may not be as important to you. :p

Louis Garneau must have worked around the potential safety issue you mention since they sell their helmet with the same visor or else the helmet wouldn't be certified.

I think the issue is that the LG has mounting holes for this visor and it was designed to work with it.

The A2 has to be slightly modified to use the visor by separating the plastic from the foam to slip the visor in. That is the only safety concern for the A2 that I could see.

Good God you are a pussy. I said already I raced it all last year with no problems. and as far as crashing the thing is thin, flimsy plastic. No more dangerous than a piece of saran wrap, and I have secured it in with superglue now, because I don't plan on removing it. I like it that much.

Personally I don't see any safety concerns either...It's just some people way up there don't see it our way.

I've seen several people's helmets like that and had no issues either.

nice mod on the Giro....

So here's a real-world question...Last year, I got back into triathlon moderately seriously and hooked myself up w/ some new flashy gear...One of my purchases was an aero helmet...I went with probably the ugliest POS on the market (LG Crono) 'cuz I'm cheap and it was only like $80...

1st race with it...a foggy 7AM North Carolina morning...I come strolling out of the swim to find a lovely layer of fog/water on my visor for the first mile or two of the bike...It took some time to wipe it off and eventually I sorta flipped up the visor so I could peek out from under...

I have since tried RainX (helped some), spit and wiping it down right before the start...but, on wet and humid mornings, there's the fog when I pull it on after the swim...I have basically flipped it up permanently to a point where there's only about half sticking down...

What got me thinking of this was the OP's modification that is a fully covered and non-flippable shield...How do you deal w/ it when it is fogged up?

and...Has anyone got any super good tricks to prevent it...

I'm with you...and I have done it...but, in a fast transition...15-30 seconds...carefully wiping down the inside of the visor isn't forefront in my mind...and I found it problematic to stick a finger up under a close fitting visor while riding (thus the flip-up...which yours does not do)

I was just wondering if there was some other tricks...aparently not...

Actually it is "C.I.L.L, My landlord"

On another note: while I do not think structurally the helmet is affected, I am sure Giro would void the warranty, and you would lose any lawsuit due to injury as it is a modification not done by the manufacturer, even though technically there is nothing wrong with it. That said, how many people return their helmet under warranty or sue the manufacturer when they crash?

Regardless of where this goes that was a WINNER...like the helmet btw

All those worried about fogging, go look up a hockey shop and the will most likely have or can order an anti-fog spray for plastic visors. Used to use it all the time on my plastic mask and it worked fine though I have never tried it on a bike helmet.

Oh crap, I've lost my mind again. Damn flux-capacitar!!

BTW, I did a mod to the Lazer Tardiz with the LG screen. Only problem is that it's about a mm off to the right and it creates a small gap around the nose that leads right to my right eye. I come into T2 looking like I was smoking with cheech and chong.

I dig the mod. I'm just trying to find an older tinted non slotted version of the visor. Cant find one anywhere. Any advise?

I currently have a Rudy aero helmet with visor. Seems to be working great. My problem is when i am in T1 and trying to put in on fast the removable ear flats fall off. I need ear flaps that are permanently fixed. I bought the giro today. My visor on my Rudy is clear. i want tinted one so i do not have to wear shades underneath the visor.

Oh.

I got the slotted one recently. I, too, tried to find a non slotted screen with no luck.

I thought putting clear tape over the slots would be a work-around but you can see the tape in you're field of vision.

I haven't tested the helmet yet on a bike. I just put it on in the garage. Maybe the older non slotted visors had fogging issues?

If I find any I'll repost.

PS: I only throttle people on a part time basis.

Awesome. Thanks for the pointers on this thread. Got my Giro Advantage fitted with an LG visor. The fit is so tight - it was very difficult to fit the visor in, even after having separated the leading edge of the helmet from the foam - that this will likely never come out. I don't think any additional tape or adhesives will be needed:
