I hear there are a few special things you can do for your chain on raceday that can make a big difference. Does anyone know anything about this?

If you want to use wax that is very close to the Friction Facts formula, http://moltenspeedwax.com/

How many watts am I out if I just use Rock n' Roll Gold vs doing this?
I'm kinda leaning towards Rapp's feelings on top end tires... it's negligible. But I'm sure someone will tell me it's like 3 minutes in an IM.

I'll find the data. I use Rock'n'Roll Gold because it's easier. I don't want to deal with wax and powdering a chain.

Looks like Molten Speed Wax is 0.5W faster than Rock'n'Roll Gold. I can live with 0.5W to spend about 30 seconds lubing a chain instead of the hours of prep and cleanup of Molten Speed Wax.
I bought Squirt lube but haven't tried it out yet. It's applied like regular lube instead of having to have a crock pot

We're literally talking about gaining a fraction of a watt by doing hours of manual labor in your house and spending (I'm spitting balling) 4x the cost of an entire bottle of lube?
I think we can end the thread with...
If you got the cash, UFO chain... if not, RnR and be done with it.

Agreed. Use Squirt or Rock'n'Roll Gold and be done with it.
Ceramic Speed chains are a waste of money. Considering they bought Friction Facts chain business, you can get the same performance by buying Molten Speed Wax which is also based on the free fomula he gave to the public.
If your lazy, buy the Ceramic Speed chain. $115 for 200 miles of lube optimization is a huge waste of money. I spent $60 on a Dura Ace chain, installed a quick link, and bought Rock'n'Roll Gold and Squirt to experiment with.

How'd you like Squirt?

I haven't used it yet. I'm thinking about cleaning my Ultegra chain I use for training and trying it out this weekend.

Let me know what you think. I'm just curious.
I love RnR but if Squirt feels as good, it's worth a try when my bottle runs out.

After a good long trial I've decided to give up on Squirt. While some aspects are appealing, in my use over time it has built waxy gunk on the chain, chainrings, sprockets and derailler pulleys. Unlike dirt associated wtith conventional chain lube, this is hard to clean off or remove with a degreaser. So for now I'm going to go back to a wet lube, with the aim of degreasing regularly.

I use it. Once all the [old] petroleum-based oil is off the chain I've found it to be very simple to maintain. It's just much easier to wipe off the water-based formula from your chainstay and neighboring parts with a damp towel. Otherwise I always had to use a degreaser to really get the bike clean. Wax residue does build up on the derailleur jockey wheels but that takes .05 seconds to wipe down with a chain rag.
My bike splits are right about where they were last year so I don't notice a performance increase or decrease.

RnR Gold is super clean. Acts as a cleaner/solvent going on and comes off and stays clean.

I had nothing better to do or spend my money on so I bought a bottle of Squirt today for my Road bike. I cleaned off a perfectly good treatment of Rock N' Roll Gold to give Squirt a try. That stuff is crap on a stick. Seriously, it couldn't be messier or gunkier. Yeah, the shifting (in the stand) and chain movement was smooth but that crap is everywhere on my chainrings and cassette. Within minutes I used a bio-degreaser and removed it and re-applied RNR Gold. I also took a shower and a shame nap to completely rid myself of the filth of Squirt.
Wish I could get my money back.

I haven't even opened my bottle of Squirt yet. After I ordered it, I heard stories like what you experienced and I was hesitant to try it

Based on this image, it seems like the best chain lube is... extra-virgin olive oil.
Is there any reason this should stay in the kitchen?

But the things is, in order to achieve those numbers with RnR that assumes the process Jason under went with RnR which I can assure you was not spending 30 seconds to lube the chain. Correct me if I am wrong but each chain underwent a fairly substantial process.

By the looks of it, clean your chain and throw on some 3 in 1 and that's as good as about 90% of the stuff available (cheap too).
