Flag it and the idiots disappear. MTB has been much more frustrating because while nobody can get a car on a trail, there is a lot of bad GPS data out there that give some scrubs KOMs and no proof that they didn't actually do what their GPS data says they did.

I don't think he is hunting for KOM - he is just riding. Let's be honest, his training is unreal - the way he can couple together total volume & intensity is so much greater than anyone else I personally know, or even hear stories about. Secondly, unlike most Strava junkies, if you asked them to run back up Lemmon after they road it they won't have a snowball's chance in hell of retaining their KOM against Sanders. Any professional triathlete chasing KOM, unless done specifically to test 5 min, 20min, 60min power, is not doing their job. Assuming he arrives at Kona healthy, doesn't have a mechanical, and not understanding his ability to run in heat, I have to say he is the odds on favorite to win Kona without a doubt.

I wouldn't be surprised if he used a KOM like that full Lemmon segment for some focus just like he used his early fascination with Crowie swimming 1:20/100 for 3800m for some motivation in his swim training. Maybe so, maybe no, I just thought it was a cool story about him breaking the new bike out of a box and going out and doing that. I'm a Strava geek and a Sanders fan, so didn't mean anything derogatory.

No worries. He is obviously very talented. I think he has a decent grasp on his strength and weaknesses, and IMO he should know that the uphill KOM is not what is important - he has it already whether he knows it or not. I think if he really wants to work on a KOM, he should ride with Jimmy R and learn to tackle the KOM on the descent instead. He has more to gain in bike handling than I believe in growing his ultimate engine size and Jimmy R can show him how to descend.

A few months of getting a ride up, hammering down a dozen donuts, and then coasting down, with the extra weight, would do just that. May hurt the run though...

Jimmy,

Indeed - Lionel did this after a staying home here in Ontario for the winter up to this point. We've had a hard one, but it has not seemed to impact his fitness at all. In fact, he appears stronger and fitter than he was last year!

One wonders what he'll be able to do now with full outdoor riding!
