Besides the whole brutal winter thing, does anybody attempt to ride road during the winter time in Steamboat? Trainer parties? Is it possible to get out on the roads with a CX bike? I'm moving out there in a month or so and want to get an idea of what the cycling community is like during the off-season.

It snows ALOT...there are occasional snow droughts for a few days when you can get out on dry roads but they are not too frequent (good news for a Ski Town).
Go look at Moots.com website or facebook. Since it a ski town, they get a lot of snow that stays. I think lots of folks there ride those big tire snow bikes, xc ski, ride their cross bikes some and wait for spring.
