Because I've never had a chain last more than 7,000 miles.
What chain is it and what kind of riding do you do with it?

I bet a fixie chain would last a really long time. Those things are fat.

Don't know, he's probably training on it this moment for all I know.
Just want to know what he's using so I can do it to

I think it is mind blowing too.

I guess the question is what are you doing to your chains. I usually go with 105 series chain, and it is on a commuter bike, albeit one that weighs in 60 lbs. I have never pushed 1,000 watts in my life, not even for a single second.

I've changed 2 105 chains about 3000 miles each with almost no measurable wear measuring center to center between pins. I've changed them simply because it's what everyone else seems to do. And mine have seen 1000 watts.....but don't see nearly as many average watts as Tom's :)
I clean my chain with a rag and Wd-40 after almost every ride (lube maybe once a month). About once a month or so I take my casette off and clean it to like new. Same with chainrings (left on the bike). I'm riding about 9-10 hours / week.
