Re: Flat Tire Solutions: Vittoria Pit Stop. (IMPROVED: photos now!) [Tom Demerly] [ In reply to ]

I got a flat this morning and had a chance to try Pitstop.

I used it on the rear wheel with Conti GP4000 clinchers. This is an n=1 sample, but I was less than impressed. The tube had a 2mm cut in it. I inflated with Pitstop as directed, but the cut was too big. (Note that you can't really tell the size of the puncture unless you take the tire off -- defeating the purpose of the Pitstop.) The tire would not hold air.

Luckily, I had a spare tube and CO2 inflator. I changed the tire and looked carefully at the old tube. It was still oozing pitstop foam from the cut and valve, but dead flat.

So, I'd say that based on Tom's tests, it *may* be a great product for small punctures. But, since you can't be guaranteed the size of the hole when you get a flat, I'll be going back to tubes/CO2.
