Just an FYI, this dude is going to jump from about 23 miles high in a couple hours. Pretty freaking awesome. Here is the link to the live feed:

I am doing the iPad to Apple TV again for this. Even with a gen 1 iPad the video quality is perfect.

Lavender room... but still, yeah I've been watching this all morning (PST).

Grew up living right next to KSC and used to watch the NASA channel for hours just watching mission control feeds. Compared to that, this is action packed.

Props to the guy doing the commentary. Not a whole lot of "action" at this point.

Agreed, excellent coverage. Also there is some pretty amazing technology employed in support of this project. I remember when Kittinger made his jump in 1960 (yeah, I'm that old) and that was a pretty astounding feat for the day.

Perhaps Red Bull could provide cameras and tracking at Kona in the future.

Time to go chase some kids off my lawn. Cheers!

About what time is he supposed to jump. Watching a balloon ascend is only interesting for about 30sec...

It will be a bit longer he hasnt reached altitude that he jumped in july. He is going to 120K feet and is at 94K right now. I just have the audio in the back ground so I know when its close.

A lot better coverage then kona!
What are the odds that he breaks the sound barrier and would the pressure wave created kill him?

Balloon has started to level off at about 122k, he's running through the egress checklist now.

Should be jumping soon.

I've sat through a decade of live Kona broadcasts and this ain't bad. Perhaps my level of expectation has been sufficiently muted.

I thought it was pretty cool while the side camera and the interior camera was providing the feed, then after he was on the step and the feed went to the camera above him looking down, my heart rate went up a notch or two.
Pretty awesome camera work to track him coming down also.

That's impressive! I didn't see the pressure wave formed when he broke mach 1. Unless the wave formed is proportional to his size, so it would be hard to spot it from earth.

I watched the last 15 mins of the ascent and the jump - wow when he started spinning I thought he was in trouble - but stabilized nicely.

Having jumped HALO - I was really impressed with this jump....:-)

I'm no expert, but It might be because broke it where there was very little air thus little resistance.

Such a cool shot.

I was wondering that myself. When he was sitting there, and the hatch opened, and he started to shuffle out so he was sitting in the opening with his feet hanging out on that platform, some crazy ass shit must have been going through his mind. I hope he was able to at least enjoy a bit of the view from up there, which is one very few people have ever had the opportunity to see.

Long Chile was a silly place.

You are correct. At the altitude he was when he jumped, sound could not propagate because it is essentially vacuum and you need molecules for pressure waves to travel. He never had to overcome any pressure wave like you would have to overcome at atmospheric pressure.
