The (Full) Ass Thread - Results
I figure since the challenge is rather epic for most people, we should have a place to talk about it. Seek out support to HTFU, and otherwise trash talk each other.

For those that don't visit the training log, this thread is for discussion of the Full Ass Challenge that started on 12/1. The object is to run 50 miles per week for 16 weeks. It is inspired by none other than desert dude.

Challenge: http://training.slowtwitch.com/challenge/distance/101

Inspiration: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...your_time._P1051716/

Rules: Run 50 miles a week for 16 weeks. While doing this - you must swim and bike a combined total of 4 times weekly (i.e. 2 swims, two bikes). Each run must be 25 minutes in length. By week 8, you must include a long run of 2 hours, and by week 16 you must have a long run of 2:30.

Small Print: 50 miles a week maybe to many for you - shoot for a mile total that is right for *you*. 16 weeks may be too long of a period of focus for you given your current bike/run level. Do not forget that as triathletes, we must not ignore swimming and running solely to become a faster runner. The important thing is to follow the spirit of the challenge, and not have a do or die attitude; but accept that if you do follow a softer version - you may be heckled.

Edit: Head to my reply with my "results" here: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...ost=3870603;#3870603

I'll start.

I ran yesterday, and still feel like total garbage - given that it's only 10 days after IMAZ + I still have the remnants of a head cold I'm not surprised.

I was going to bag today until I remembered this stupid thing started today.

I'm planning to be pretty soft the first few weeks to make sure I get nice and recovered from IMAZ, then I'll play some makeup running later in the challenge.

What's the driver behind this component. I've recently ramped up to ~200mpm, but I don't have any "single" runs of 2hrs, much less 2.5. I do have days where I've run for a combined 2+hrs, but certainly not 2.5...

I am 99% sure that my longest distance tri will be olympic, and I may run a half-mary, but nothing longer

I read all these posts people bring up from the past that DD started and it makes me wish he was still that cool. Alas, 'tis not to be. I would definitely do it if he'd let me run that much right now. Maybe by January I'll have caught up...

Coolness is forever.

I forgot all about this post until I logged on this morning.

Don't worry you'll be running more the the challenge for longer then the challenge soon enough.

aw man, I didn't think it was 50 mpw (what is that in real numbers? Like close to 100km?) I thought it was a combination (after reading through the old threads). My quads feel like I could run today (IMCOZ 3 days ago) but not 100kpw. Thanks for bringing this up. I was up for the other (90 min then 120 min runs) but not that weekly distance.

Of course it's a down week after the last 10 weeks being 50 mpw +. I'm making myself run under 30, but 16 more weeks would be 6 months of consistent training. I was thinking that much consistent training might be bad :)

I'll have to meet with my advisors (me...and wife, and this big cup of coffee, and 1000 Barry P threads) and make sure it's ok to do this. I don't know desert dude at all to ask :)

Do you have to hit 50 miles every single week or is it enough to merely average it? I typically do my running in cycles with 3 to 5 weeks of high mileage and one week of low to recover and realize the gains.

(I think long runs are dramatically overrated but he who makes the challenge makes the rules...)

Depending on how my legs continue to develop I'd say I probably won't hit 50 miles a week until week 3 or 4.

So I'd say on average.

Can we use badger miles for this? Especially if I round down? It's not always easy or possible to use real miles.

No.

See the fine print, specifically: 50 miles a week maybe to many for you - shoot for a mile total that is right for *you*.

Edit: The goal of this challenge isn't to purely chase some pre-set total, but to accomplish a consecutive streak of high volume running weeks. 50 miles is on *average* a good stretch goal. For a co-worker 40 miles is the right number for him.

You do have a surprisingly big ass for a guy who does a 9:00:0x Ironman. Must be where you store all your power ...

First run, day two, 5 miles with beautiful new snow falling. Seemed an appropriate start to a winter challenge. Running a 5k tomorrow (with antlers on) so that should make for a nice comparison with a 5k come early April.
