Someone mentioned he has a ultra running buckle. Wonder if he had a driver to bring him from checkpoint to checkpoint...

They guy has no credibility and he won't gain it back by walking two Marathons and finishing an Ironman.

He won't gain credibility by doing cheap trash talk. He will always be the Finman.

".....AND THEN I DONT WANNA HEAR ANY OF YOUR RIDICULOUS EXCUSES !!!!!!!"

.....you mean like:
  1. wearing fins in a tri and claiming they are dead fish
  2. cutting turnarounds?

Good on you for doing your challenge, but it has nothing to do with points 1 and 2 above.

I hope everyone realizes that you are just playing into his game by making this thread longer and longer. He wants people to be angry and call him names. It validates him. It validates what he is doing. It allows him to become an 'internet sensation.' He wants to be able to proudly say that he alone was the reason two ST threads went dozens of pages. That promotes him. He will probably buy himself a medal or find a radio show to talk about it.

I know it would be un-ST like but let this thread DIE. Show him how insignificant he really is.

Holy shit ! ! ! I go to sleep for 4 hours and this is what I wake up to after making the kids lunches and getting them out to school so they can learn to spelll and write better then me of course. Amazing if he does do this lots of eggs everywhere here.
But like Frank AKA FINMAN and PT Barnum said " There's one born every minute! ". Hopefully I can make it to on of his marathons. Do a google search for Frank Cardia and go to images funny as hell.

Here's my take on this. The target audience for Frank and his antics, and the denizens of slowtwitch are two distinct, non-overlapping sets of people. He expects no business from anyone on slowtwitch: it is ST that is insignificant to him. The people he wants to reach and get money from (from providing whatever dubious services he offers) don't hang out on ST. They are those who are impressed with the fact that he has run the NYC marathon, completed a score of "triathalons", did an IM sandwiched between two marathons, and was an internet sensation on a (significantly) unnamed web site.

He is all about self-publicity for his own ends. His association with Morgan Funding Corp, while not indicative of actual wrongdoing on his part, is telling about his character. He does not care about triathlons, or ultra-distance, or marathons. He cares about having those things on his resume to attract the naive.

And your finishers medals....pathetic. We will all try to forget that pesky photo of you with fins RUNNING INTO THE WATER.
Holding up a pile of medals as proof that you didn't cheat ..... that's like some jackass Wall Street exec holding up a pile of non-sequential unmarked bills as proof that he didn't screw over millions of shareholders.

Dan, I thought the same thing.

He comes across as very sincere and unapologetic. I found the explanation of the fins in the Gulf thing a bit strange but you never know. IF, and only IF, his true friends were bashing and smashing him...why didn't they ever show up and post something saying "we know this guy and he's honest and not a cheater"?

I am hoping he can pull it off.

This thread, die? Unlikely. It will get another 30 posts or so in the next day, especially from those that didn't see it yesterday and reply to a MOP response before reading the whole thread. Then a week from now someone will return from a trip, find it, and bring it to the surface again for a few. Then it will settle out until around race time, when it will bob back to the surface. A year or two from now, someone will mention "remember Finman?" in another thread, and this will get dredged up again. Maybe even one more time on its 5-year anniversary. Such is the life of many of the 'classic' threads.

Unless, of course, it gets locked down.

why?

The guy is a sociopath or full of himself it's just like giving Charles Manson a platform, unless you do it just for fun and to mock the guy and that's ok since I personally don't think much of him

"redemption only happens when you actually admit to the mistake."

well, sez you. and, i respect your view. i really do. if i race 10-flat and get beat by someone who cheated, yes, i'd be pissed. but if i race 14 hours and get beat that way, i reckon i've got other things more important to think about, maybe that's just me.

in any case, whether he cheated or not (and i acknowledge the consensus view, which is that he did), i think there is a way to redeem oneself even if an acknowledgment and apology was not forthcoming, and that is through penance. me, i'd much rather say, "yes, i used the fins!" than to do what frank pledges to do. i think he's taking the much more difficult road.

if he starts, that is. and if he does start, we'll be there to make sure there is no slight of hand. at some point, when he's crawling, bloody knees, yellow froth, third degree sunburn, i expect that to eclipse the fins.

if he does not start, then, i think he's heaped that many more calumnies on his head and probably rightly so.

Really? Admitting to cheating, especially after weaving a web of lies about it, is not at all easy. Most of us learned that as kids. (Let's assume for the sake for the discussion that he cheated. I think that the evidence is overwhelming. Others may disagree.) This guy apparently finds it monumentally difficult.

In any case, I can't think of any account (religious or secular) of redemption for wrongdoing that does not require the acknowledgment and genuine regret of the wrongdoer.

michael milken.

but look, i think you're getting finman mixed up with roman polanski or bernie madoff. yes, it appears he attempted to swim in a triathlon with fins and, no, he isn't admitting it. he took his year off from USAT, afaik. am i going to regale my boy scout troop and sunday school class with heroic stories about finman, the 13th disciple? no. but i do admire the guy's shameless bounce-back ;-)

Can you update your "ST on Youtube video" to incorporate the "confessions of finman section". Maybe they can interrupt the heated debate over the Womens Forum and pan out to a finman confession video segment and then Hitler slams his fist on the table saying something along the lines of, "Not only do they have the Womens Forum, but now live coverage of this cheating douchebag..."

Fair enough. I do respect that view (not speaking facetiously here). I am not myself so much a fan of shamelessness, but then again, I grew up in the midwest. ;-)

I'm not sure how you can believe his story, nothing adds up, and the person who claims to have seen him do it sounds pretty legit.

I dont know why you guys are giving him a fair shake with this 'challenge'. If he admitted to cheating then I'd feel better about it but his story doesn't add up. His integrity is shot and even if he does it legitimately it doesn't really prove anything. He's a snake and I wouldn't trust him.

Frank Cardia is going to get more coverage on ST at IMAZ than Rappstar could possibly dream of !!!

I am really curious if Finman's post-IMAZ marathon time will be faster or slower than Rappstar's IMAZ time?
If I was a betting man (and I'm not) I would have to give a 2 hour handicap to make it even odds. My guess is a 6+ marathon time for the fin-ster and somewhere near 8:12 for Rappstar (maybe?). This could be interesting.

He 'found' the fins attached together in the water I assume. If not he might be the only person on earth who found two matching fins in the Gulf of Mexico, what are the odds.

Actually, I think Rod Blagojevich is the better comparison. Running a media/P.R. campaign to overshadow his wrongdoings.
